Probably, and this is not to demote how good the movie is, the book is way better

Timothee Chalamet is really great at playing a wasted act, the part after he pukes then bumps his head on the car door frame “ow” really spells out “drugged” lol Great acting!!!

It’s difficult for the program to work if the addict them selves don’t wish to get better.

This scene confused me. I don’t understand how anyone can be admitted to a US detox/rehab program *against their will* for **28 days**?? Is the intake counselor or whoever telling Steve Carell’s character that there are a lot of people locked up in that facility “not by choice”??? I understand most states allow for some short (like days-long maximum) periods of confinement without the patient’s consent. But that’s to perform a psychiatric evaluation. It’s irrelevant what drugs they find in the patient’s bloodstream, as long as the patient is not determined to be an immediate danger to themselves or others, they are encouraged to get into treatment, but free to go. But at the facility in the movie the lady is openly saying they admit people into a month long program against their will (while presumably billing their insurance $1k+ a day no doubt) and get parents to sign on the dotted line by quoting an absurdly wide range of historic outcomes, with a straight face. I mean seriously wtf information is “25-80% success rate” even meant to convey?
