Tanning beds/salons no longer exists in Australia. As someone who now resides in Australia, Ken, you could look into this. From memory (which could be wrong), I think a 26 year old female died from skin cancer, caused by tanning beds. More research was done to look into the health affects caused by the tanning beds, and the salons in Australia were all shut down. Possibly because we don’t need a higher risk of skin cancer, when we are the top country in the world for the rate of skin cancer already.

I have never been more concerned for anyone on this show than i am for her. She is SO young. She could get to 25 and wind up with melanoma (which is young!) and seriously regret this. Addiction in all its forms are just so so sad.

i experienced second degree burns on my entire back because of spending time in the sun. all the skin on my back eventually dried up, and sleeping at night felt like sleeping in a bag of chips. Remember sunscreen when you're outside in the sun peeps.

Only took one time where I didn't wear sunscreen while being a swim instructor's assistant at 14 and my entire back peeling off (the epidermis, anyway) to nope out of that. More painful than breaking my little toe.

i think to be clear in 8:49, the statistic meant that her chance of developing a melanoma has increased 75% from *what it already was*. if it used to be a 1% chance, it has now increased to a 1.75% chance (which is obviously still a significant increase, but far less than a 75% chance of developing a melanoma altogether). of course, she might have tanned so much that now she does have a 75% chance overall of developing a melanoma so 🤷♀️

I actually had a subscription to my local tanning salon in the 90’s. It was such a thing to be tan all year round, especially in the harsh winter we have here in Canada. I loved it…. Until I went to the dermatologist and he gave me heck for using the tanning beds and removed about 10 moles on my back to have biopsied. Thankfully they were benign, but after that, I never tanned by the beds again. Occasionally I’ll use self tanning lotions, but will not sit in the sun either. I’m a lovely shade of pale now. 😅
@pythonkatie1985 Жыл бұрын
I always liked being pale so I never did much in the way of tanning, and I still ended up with basal cell carcinoma on my face. She might be enjoying herself now, but I can state for a fact that having a quarter sized hole dug into your nose and closed up with a flap of skin from behind the year is no damn picnic.

Jesus. I'm going to see a dermatologist because the same pimple keeps coming back on my nose and it doesn't pop like a normal one (yes, I know that's also not great for your skin but I can't help it), and I'm nervous because I have gotten burnt bad way too many times not even trying to tan or anything.

My best friend, who is 31, is dying of cancer. There is no way to save her life at this point. She is the one who works out, eats right and never smoked in her life and don't drink. But she has only months left. Life is not fair. So to take your's for granted and doing this to your body on purpose is just disgusting.

I can't help but wonder aside from the body dismorphia that she may have, I wonder if she also had a vitamin D deficiency and maybe with all the tanning she's feeling the positive effects of more vitamin D and she's associating tanning with physically feeling better.

Tanning beds were so popular when I was in high school. That was around the time people were putting those cut out shapes on their hips or other areas to have a certain tan line. I think the most common one was a palm tree 😂😂 so many girls were looking leathery in high school. I tried it once and hated it.
