Here the art of "Yes" shines in particular in the extraordinary care of the arrangement: everything - even the very calibrated choice of instrumental timbres; the delicate filigree of vocal polyphonies; the very apt and characteristic preciousness of the repeated rumble of a low voice that emerges slightly, from a certain point, here and there - is perfectly conceived to highlight an ethereal and otherworldly atmosphere, on the wings of a boundless imagination that only Jon's unique voice could express.

There is so much mysticism, meaning, spirituality and love in this album. This song is also placed on the "Very final day." "The very last day", but instead of a cataclysmic apocalypse it's a circus of beauty and joy ushering a new world an eternally joyful and beautiful paradise, brought to Earth. It doesn't matter what beliefs you have, it's an artist's vision of universal beauty and grace.

I've never gotten the hate that many Yes "fans" have for this song. I find it be very creative and original in best possible way. Unlike anything else that was being made in the rock world at the time (or since)...However, does anyone else find the song to be, ultimately, a sad one? After the joyous melody that Jon sings, and the lyrics full of wild, magical imagery, in the end the singer/narrator turns to his son to find that he is disappointed and unimpressed by all the magical spectacle, wanted clowns and toffee apples instead...I think that may be a meaning to this song that many people miss.

Just because the band was having personality issue doesn't mean the music is not good.

The day the Circus of Heaven came to town Local folks lined the streets in a Midwestern town Waiting anxiously for the parade to begin all round On the very last day A Unicorn headed the Mystical way Surrounded by what seemed a thousand golden angels at play Behind were Centaurs, elves, bright fairies all in colours of Jade On the very final day For what seemed only just a moment in time Seven solemn flying silvered regal horses rode by Seven golden chariots in tow, a wonder to behold The Seven Lords of the Mountains of time There then arose where nothing really stood there before A giant tent rising one thousand feet high from the floor Towns people flocked inside with their eyes all amazed To greet the Seventh Lord of the Seventh age A fanfare rang out in an incredible sound Bringing out the strangest visions perfect harmony round Any dreams he asked would they like to have seen From historical or mythical scenes Then there above their heads just as vivid as life Each vision transported in multitudes inventing light Grecian galleons, The Sack of Troy, to the Gardens of Babylon A play of millions roared along The gigantic dreams of Alexander the Great Civil wars where brothers fought and killed their friendship in hate All seen by Zeus performing scenes of the magical way The day the circus came to town Outside great animals as tame as the trees Angels high in starlight dancing streets Tuning their colours with indigo and gold Dropping violet, red and emerald snow As the circus finally changed its invisible course A new world to be found On the dreamy ground we walked upon I turned to my son and said "Was that something beautiful, amazing, wonderful, extraordinary beautiful?" "Oh! it was OK!! But there were no clowns, no tigers, lions or bears, candy-floss, toffee apples, no clowns."

Yes, beautiful song. Yes, and especially Jon, has been connected to spirituality, indian, not the least, since the beginning of the 90's. F ex "Tales" is based on the ancient Vedas of India, divided into sruti, smriti, purana and brahmana, the four sides of "Tales". I was able to meet Jon in Oslo with AWBH concert beginning of 90's and gave him a translation of a sruti text from the Vedas. Here in the video we also see the famous painting of Krishna and Arjuna on the battlefield - for victory of spiritual heaven vs material hell.

When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me." ... 1 Corinthians 13:10 But when The Perfect comes, the partial passes away. 1 Corinthians 13:12 Now we see but a dim reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. I think that's why my gen liked it at first, but then went to disco and dance music: Prog forced to you to listen to it and any messages it had, you just coun't hear whatever you wanted. My gen thought it spoke to a gen 10 years before, and associated it with the Hippie movements (e.g., Haight-Ashbury and Altamonte), especially w/Anderson's Mystical Far-Eastern inspired lyrics, even though PR was coming from Britian. 'The Vietnam War's ended -- let's just dance' became my gen's thinking.

I don't think 'Tormato' is a rehash of everything Yes did; It sounds to me more like the second part of a recap or summary, rather. 'Going for the One' leads, I think, into this album; it is part A of the recap to Tormato's part B. And, I don't think Prog Rock 'died' in 1979; I think it changed into what we now call 'New Age.' I think my gen (I was a teen in the 70's) thought Prog Rock was trying too hard to 'prove' its legitimacy -- that it wasn't just dragged - out 'Hippie Music'.
