This was fascinating. I watched Citizen Kane years ago and found it pretty underwhelming so it's nice to finally understand why it's considered such a great film. Also the editing tricks like the crowd shots are really cool, I had no idea, even watching it back it's hard to tell that it's not a crowd.

Quetzalcoatlus. It's the largest flying creature ever. It could fit you easily just within its beak. They're so big that they needed to use their wings like skis to poke vault themselves into the air and their wings were so large that they speculate that they could soar across the entire ocean in one go.

They were close to the same size as the mountain banshees in Avatar (quetzalcoatlus averaged 10-11 meter wingspan,vs the banshee's 14 meter average) except their heads are WAY more massive and their necks longer.

I got a whole list of favorite dinosaurs, for some examples: -Acrocanthosaurus ~ big carnivore from another branch of the family tree, got a sick hump going down the whole body -Therizinosaurus ~ one of the biggest weirdos. Long neck, meter-long claws, beer-gut belly, all while running that vegan diet -Quetzalcoatlus ~ not a dinosaur, but one of (if not) the largest animals to ever fly, on top of also being a weirdo

My favorite Dino isn't actually a Dino, it's just a prehistoric creature. Smilodon Brutalis, which is literally Latin for Brutal Knives. It's the Saber-Toothed Tiger.

I remember how disappointed I was when I first watched Citizen Kane and it took me a while to understand it in a historical perspective. It is difficult to appreciate groundbreaking movies or books long after the fact because many of the elements that made them distinctive have become commonly used afterwards.

No joke - Ankylosaurus is my favourite as well! The "less popular" is part of it, but also just how bulky and that massive tail weapon - may not be starting as many fights as an herbivore, but you know it's ending a bunch of fights!

Mine is "edgy" triceratops. The thing is, its my favorite since I was a child before the first Jurassic Park. At the time I had a collection of magazines about dinosaurs and for what I read, for my brain the triceratops was "the good guy who could take on the evil tyranosaurus" and thats it. When I grow older I learned a little bit about other dinosaurs of course, and a lot of them was "oh coool, this one is awesome", but child me was, "meh, triceratops could take it" even if that wasn't technically true. Could never convince him otherwise so still there on top

T. rex actually only gets _cooler_ the more we learn. It had the strongest bite force of any land animal ever. We also have fossil evidence of it basically curb-stomping a rex it'd already killed.

Honestly, as someone who saw the movie less than two years ago for the first time, I found Citizen Kane to be very good, even if you're only briefly considering its age. Yes, I could definitely see some of the cracks of that age, some of the old tricks (which, again, compiled in a way that was essentially new by Welles and his crew in this very movie) don't hold up as well under modern view, but I still found it to be a story that was fairly fascinating and compelling, especially as so many different scenes can be broken down to such a fine level of detail while still drawing more out of it, and it uses a bunch of narrative elements that still work solidly. Would I say best ever? Well, all things considered... Maybe? I'm not the kind to pick a definitive number one of anything, so I'd definitely put it high up, but I doubt I could ever decide on best of all time, Kane or otherwise. I'm sure someone's put it all together better since, but I wouldn't know where to start in making that choice. Also, triceratops is still cool and I refuse to hear otherwise.

You brought up the Goon and the cardboard cutouts in the crowd. Those scenes were filmed in my hometown, I played in that arena and I found it weird that some of the cardboard cutouts were left in the stands after they finished filming. It felt weird during team practices to see them there. Then when I watched the movie in the theaters, I pointed to the people I went with and they did not notice them at all. My uncle did get a photo with Jay Baruchel during that experience.

Honestly, I find Cinderella to be the most relaxed and relatable Disney classic. Is a lightly magical slice of life about a girl with a horrible family, doing her damn best not to let them take the last of her joy. She just wants an honest night off to hang out with others people of her age and might be nicer to her than her family. She isn't there to meet the prince. He likes her and thinks she's chill when they meet, but he falls in love because she isn't fawning over him and his title, when she leaves she even used the excuse she hadn't MET the prince yet. That's when he really realized she wasn't a title chaser or putting on an act to impress someone important, that's really just what she's like in a relaxed environment enjoying herself. She didn't even realize she had been with the prince until her family says something about the shoe she lost. That's when she realized that not only does that cool dude she met at the party really like her, but also, holy shit, he might be the ticket out of her abusive family situation.

It's an issue with a lot of topics now that many things are so in-depth and take so long to learn that there is a disconnect between those in the know and those that aren't. This has a major impact when discussing things that seem simple to the person in the know because they have dealt with it for so long. e.g I want to study insects and I know that bugs and insects don't mean the same thing a bug is a type of insect, but I know most people don't know or don't care so I don't mention it. Another large one that works similarly is different dialects of the same language. For example, most places use either British English or American English as bass. You have separate traits piled on top of it like influences from other languages, pronunciation, and the like which can result in two people on the same continent speaking phonetically the same language and can hardly talk to each other. This is when it's at its strongest where typically it's only a few words and phrases that aren't understood. Sorry for my spelling and the wall of text, I like this stuff.

I loved Citizen Kane. I love old movies in general, though, and understand the limitations filmmakers used to have. I did recognize that crowd scene was faked...the people didn't move a whisker, and were too identical. The probable reason for my noticing was that I like to look at what else is going on in a shot, besides the main focus...you catch all sorts of funny things that way. Which is why watching John Carter in 3D sucked so hard--most of the screen was out of focus, which gave me a slight headache from my brain trying to force my eyes to focus on the impossibly out of focus.

On the subject of Orson Welles getting around studio meddling; during the filming of A Touch of Evil more than a decade later, studio rep dropped by set and were horrified to discover by the end of the first day of shooting on a complicated scene scheduled to take multiple days to shoot that not a single foot of film had been shot. The next day angry executives came down to the set to discover the crew packing up by noon, having completed said scene several days early. The result? The most famous single take tracking shot in film history.
