While I'm sure plenty would disagree, I do wholeheartedly believe that Hollow Knight is the best indie game ever made. The gameplay, the look, the feel, the story and ofc, the music. The music of Hollow Knight elevates the experience from a 10 to 100 imo. City of Tears, both the aesthetic of the area and it's music, perfectly exemplify what Hollow Knight is

Definitely one of the better ones. But I do have a problem with Hollow Knight's boss design, I feel like HK's boss design has just wayy too much...cheap difficulty made to frustrate the player. I don't like cheap difficulty. So for me, the flawed boss design lowered the score from a 10/10 to like, 9/10 or 8/10.

This theme is super emotional for me. I used to play Hollow Knight on the trips to and from university while I was studying. My grandpa used to do all the driving so I used to play in the passenger seat on my Switch and he saw everything through those transformative years that I went through. From heartbreaks to victories and even the depth of my depression and anxiety back then. Hollow Knight helped me recenter and keep me going back then. My grandpa used to cheer me on during the hard moments within my life and within the hardest boss battles in my game. He unfortunately passed away in my second last year of university and this song reminds me of all the moments I had with him. I remember how he used the last years of his life to bond with me and really connect with me. How he used to tell me that taking me to school and back every day made his days far more exciting and encouraging me to keep going. I miss him dearly and this theme reminds of him so much. It literally brings me to tears but reminds me that all he wanted was to see me succeed. I love this song and Hollow Knight. I'm definitely crying now but I'm happy too. His memory will forever live on as long as I can hear this song. RIP Khulu (The Zulu word for Grandpa) May your soul rest in peace

there are a lot of "favorite moments in hollow knight" for me, but something about entering the city of tears for the first time, with one of the first main vocal tracks, this beautiful haunting song, really impacted me. it made me think about the people of hallownest and how once there were so many that they had this massive city with its complex structures, and how hollow knight is a sort of melancholy fantasy post apocalypse. great song, love these videos

I love hollow knight's music so much. City of tears is beautiful but personally I always found Resting grounds to be the most compeling. City of Tears, to me, embodies a few emotions at once that seem like they would conflict. First there's that somberness or sadness you mentioned. Then on top of that there's the captivating wonder and beauty of the moment. And on top of that I think is that "opportunity" your were talking about--the opportunity of adventure and exploration that lies in almost every aspect of that soundtrack. It's amazing how a piece that appears so simple on its face can be so emotionally complex.

Something curious is that the rainiest place in the world is in my country (Colombia) and it is called Lloró, which means "it cried". To be more exact, the word comes from Catío, a local indigenous language, and means in English something like "the threshold of the earth", but the word "Lloró" in Spanish means "It cried".

yeah, i learned a couple years ago through a YT vid that Hollow Knight actually has a few leitmotifs that i never noticed until then. the fact that these leitmotifs exist in most of the tracks allows one to draw subtle connections, such as connecting Hornet's theme to the White Palace. i recommend re-listening to the menu theme, track name "Hollow Knight", and then listening to "Sealed Vessel" after. or, if you've already analyzed those songs, "pure vessel" from the godmaster DLC. its the dream version of Sealed Vessel and quite a fitting representation of the Hollow Knight in his prime

With the hidden line ''The Great Gates have been sealed, none shall enter, none shall leave''. The barricading of the city is the last option remaining to the citizens of the city and the Pale King.

This is definitely one of my favourite songs in videogames. I love the mysterious feeling here between loss and sadness and hope and glory. Sadly there are some things missing in the OST version of the song: in game it is actually more like 2 versions of the song, one for the inside of buildings and one for the outside and it dynamically changes when you go in and out of buildings. The inside version is purely instrumental and when you step outside the voices kick in. Additionally there is also a deeper male choir at points in the outside version that gives a more somber contrast against the lead voice and the Cello is much more pronounced.

I only recently picked Hollow Knight back up after dropping it for a little bit. Entering City Of Tears for the first time, the cutscene with Hornet and the music starts playing was one of the most magical moment I've had in this game. As well as ofc, sitting with Quirrel watching the rain while this music played was too wholesome too. I've yet to finish the game, I've been taking a break after Hornet Sentinel (in Kingdom's Edge) frustrated the living hell out of me, but I plan to go back soon to finish the final Dreamer. My only problem with the game is that the bosses have cheap artificial difficulty and feel like they're made to specifically piss off the player (and its definitely not a skill issue as some of the hardest bosses in Soulsborne-Sekiro are my favorite bosses; Malenia, Isshin, etc). Well this comment went on for a little long, but I'll still leave a few suggestions for you to listen to: Nightmare King Grimm, Dung Defender and Hive Knight. All three are my favorite tracks from the game.

okay, but have you thought-Sekiro is baby game.

Hi! Marco: I recently found your channel and the content is excellent. I love videogames music but I love anime's music. Do you know Ashes on The Fire? That song is from Attack On Titan anime.

Hi Marco! I don’t do anime because it’s not a passion of mine and I don’t want to deal with copyright issues. But I enjoy listening to the music in my own time :)

@@MarcoMeatball You're right, but the music of that anime is one of the best, if you have the time, give it a try. You will like it even if you dont like to watch anime. You can listen: 1.Ashes on the fire 2. Footsteps of Doom 3. XLTT 4. The Other Side of the Sea

It might be a bit niche but i want to suggest you listen to The Rumble of Scientific Triumph by Kevin Penkin, it might be one of the most interesting ways i've heard children's choir being used in a sound track

He's stated before he wants to keep the channel to video game music.

@@AnimeSimp234 even if he doesn't make a video on this ost i still felt like it needed a mention for how unique this song is and how great kevin penkin is as a composer

Yeah, it's been few years since they announced it. Though SGF say's that it won't come out for it, as it's said that Team Cherry was hit quite hard during the pandemic
