Genghis getting barb rushed is just hilariously ironic. Really glad Ursa went with Sun God - I love that pantheon. You want to be working plenty of farm tiles anyway for growth so making them productive too is actually a real boost, and with so many cities that can get a watermill too I think it will really pay off.

Today Mongolia gets to horse around in East Asia. After settling in place, a plan is formed. With Animal Husbandry, Mongolia discovers a source of horse. A settler gets delayed in favor of a builder, and barbarians appear. Kublai introduces himself, and Ludwig soon after. The Barbarians spawn just south of Avarga. Yongle also appears, and appear quite gray today. A barbarian horde begins to assault, and it is rough. A second city gets settled on cotton, and shortly after Qin introduces himself. Bronze Working unlocks the Encampment, and the first stage of Genghis Khan's plan is in place. Ludwig shows himself weirdly competent in Asia for once, and shows his power by conquering a city from Yongle. Shortly after an annoying pillage by a barbarian, Wu Zetian is met, and thus all the Chinese leaders are revealed. Archery gets boosted just as a pantheon is earned. Expanded Pantheons allows Mongolia to select Sun God, thus boosting all resources improved by farms. The Chinese Civil War rages on, as the world enters the classical era. The advantage of fighting a horde of barbarians is that it is relatively easy to get your units a promotion. The drawback is that it slows your science down. England (ruled by Elizabeth) makes themselves known, with a nice hot pink. As Mongolia starts to fight of the Barbarian Hordes, A Russian scout finds a Mongolian city. Then a Korean scout does the same. A Barbarian camp is finally destroyed, and a few bought luxuries make Mongolia happy. A lot of farms are built, allowing Mongolia to take advantage of their pantheon and boosting Feudalism. Will Mongolia fight of the Barbarians and finally invade China? Will the Gobi Desert prove an insurmountable barrier? Will Ursa settle more sources of horses? Turn in next episode, same Ursa time, same Ursa channel!

Also, in case anyone likes navigable rivers, you should try the Real Rivers for random maps mod, which together with Saph's compatibility patch allows you to get fresh water navigable rivers that you can build cool dams on and get other bonuses from (to adjacent lumber mills, for example). Important rivers will finally feel critical to your empire!

The barb start is definitely tough. But it was pretty well played you got 3 cities out despite it. It's gonna be tough with the timing. But I'll be excited to see how this goes. This will be very fun, nothing like a good tsl historical re-enacment of sorts. Personally prefer Kublai's version of Mongolia myself. The origional is a bit dependant on your opponents building cavalry and the cavalry you steal with Genghis dies to a city shot on the AI's turn since you get them around 20% health and then you get massive war weariness, while Kublai's economic policy card slot is very versatile that can offer you many things.

1 archer with garrison upgrade in each city center is my "cheapest" way of dealing with tons of barb encampment around my cities, let them drain their first wave of troops and sending my initial warrior along with the archer to guard it. Tbf, i probably fight barb alot more than fight ai, lmao

This game is shaping up to be oddly historical! After fighting with rival clans in Mongolia, you're going to sweep south with advanced cavalry into a fractured China and establish Mongol rule. IRL the Yuan Dynasty, established by Kublai Khan (Genghis Khan's grandson), fought against the Jin Dynasty in the north which broke away from the larger Song Dynasty which ruled the south. I mean the Europeans wouldn't show up for another 500 or so years after the establishment of the Yuan Dynasty, but honestly who's counting?
