Ben is right though. Lewis' cities are just positioned far better and can benefit far more from factory bonuses, which drastically places his production leagues above the other players. This will single-handedly decide victory in any gigawar they start against Lewis. Score is not an accurate indicator of relative strength.

Lewis is currently in line to win sooner than everyone else. To ensure their own victory, a strategy is to take Lewis out of the running. They know he's one of the most skilled players from years of playing with him. They know from years of experience that if they don't do this, he wins and they all lose (ie. the early series of Civ V). This literally happens in real-life politics, it's called balancing tactics.

Pretty much all civ games that they have played follow a similar formula for who wins the best person which has always been Lewis will win unless crippled usually through getting ganged up on then the second best person usually Duncan will then win unless crippled there are a few civ games where this hasn't been the case like someone has a lucky or unlucky start or someone abuses something but in most cases its this
