The best use I ever got out of the Dead Sea was, ironically enough, when an enemy civ spawned on top of it. Because this let me bombard the city from over the Dead Sea, and have my Bombards heal back up in one turn when the enemy focused on them.

Big ups for your keen attention to detail in getting the names right, not just in this video but in your other videos (with man-made wonders and leader names). Interesting anecdote, I once had a game where I spawned near Vesuvius. Proceeded to plop down my 2nd city right beside it and had Liang with Reinforced Materials babysit it more or less the entire game. People still died every time it erupted, but the yield porn was worth it. Also I have a soft spot for Lysefjord, only because it's the one natural wonder in the game that I've actually visited in real life.

The few times I get excited over a desert wonder outside of specialist civs: I have often rolled maps that have a smallish desert patch with greener lands around it. There have been a few games that I’ve been able to fan out around the wonder, and get 3-4 decent holy sites with good adjacency, while only sacrificing a few tiles to desert. It’s sometimes workable if you want to use work ethic to make holy sites into ancient era industrial zones. It doesn’t scale well to late game, but if you snowball 3-4 high production cities into a wider empire spam, you’ll be well set up by the time the pantheon loses its usefulness. All that being said desert wonders are definitely weakest, but I think I’d prefer a desert wonder settle in a lot of cases over a good volcano wonder spawn; where I’m gonna be battling environmental all game.
@aprinnyonbreak12902 ай бұрын
Agree Deserts are... interesting. A few deasert tiles can be nice, a small desert with a desert wonder is great, and deserts CAN be really resource rich, but big 'ol deserts aren't good, and finding a desert wonder several tiles into desert hell is just sad, similar to finding snow hell wonders.

Ok so i'm only at lakes, but imo something you 'overlook' here is that the ones that function as an actual lake (all besides Fountain, and Ik-Kil) benefit from the harbor, Auckland as well as Huey Teocalli. Besides that they also count as a feature, so they work with Reyna s forestry management, preserves, the Marae, and are the only lake tiles that can be part of a national park.
@Zondagskind.Gaming Жыл бұрын
True. Most of those things also count for other wonders, however - Preserves especially. I also think that, if you're building a wonder to make a tile good, that tile isn't very good. The Harbour synergy is one I might have overlooked, since I do address it for Ocean Wonders.
@jaakbonenstaak8041 Жыл бұрын
@@Zondagskind.Gaming Most definitely, it's why i put overlook between apostrophe, since i didnt want it to sound as critique. I do however think it makes them fairly unique as a lake tile. Also it makes a lot more sense to adress it for Ocean wonders and not for lakes, since you do might have trouble finding a spot for an actual harbour :)

I think some wonders have erroneous conditions that are only factored for creation mode, that are never actually allowed when the map is played. Some of these are easy to see, because the graphic for the wonder doesn't appear when placed (Giant's Causeway is especially prone to this), but others are more sneaky about just kinda not working.

Great Barrier Reef is imo way overrated here, and should be put down in the C or so. (Disclaimer: I'm judging wonders by their value assuming you settle them in the start of the game). You dont really want to work these tiles early in the game,because while you get good growth out of it, having production to start cranking out infrastructure or units is far more important in the early ancient era when you are behind the AI. Meanwhile getting tech faster will generally just bump up your district costs, without actually providing much of a real benefit anyway (since you need to produce stuff like settlers/units/builders pretty fast to catch up). And getting a +4 campus or holy site out of it is nice, but nothing that game breaking. Compare this to Roraima and especially Paititi, where settling near it early almost guarantees a win by default because of the absolute stupid yields you get for free. Also anything faith related I personally rate as a top wonder automatically deserving A (assuming you settle it in the early game as mentioned). This is because getting "free" faith early is tremendously important for getting the best pantheons early on, and it allows you to run Urban Planning over God King, which by itself is a very good choice as Urban Planning is a great policy card by itself in the early game due to how important production is for catching up to the AI.
@Zondagskind.Gaming7 ай бұрын
Fair enough, I think with that frame of reference all the ocean wonders drop down considerably. I took more of a long-term approach on it, and I really rate that you can use the Great Barrier Reef to give adjacency on a district that doesn't get it from other natural wonders, so it's a bit more flexible than e.g. Ha Long Bay.
@samuelhakansson66807 ай бұрын
@@Zondagskind.Gaming Taking the approach of valuing over the whole game is fine, the reef is better in that case. That being said, I feel like most wonders are pretty inconsequential if you settle them in the mid game or later, simply because the impact on the game isn't there anymore. Zhangyie Dangxia (or however you spell it) is a good case. Super good on turn 1, but pretty meh in the mid game. My current game had me spawn near it, and so far it led me to getting one general and merchant for free in the ancient era, and another one of each early classical. Needless to say, having a great general for no effort makes an early rush many times easier on deity. I usually dont even bother settling near it in the mid game however, if it means passing up good terrain or a strategic location elsewhere. The only real exception to any evaluation of wonders are imo wonders like Fountain of Youth etc. I never really feel the need to settle Fountain of Youth early, but just having it in the game is great, almost regardless of when you discover it. Makes for a much easier domination game, whether that is in the ancient era or Renaissance. Matterhorn is still great just because of the adjacent yields it provides, while having an incredible ability bonus as well like Fountain does.

Love the Ranking, but i think you should reconsider Lysefjord. Before the buff it was certainly F Tier, but now with its 1 Production, it is sad to see it so low. In comparision to Mount Everest, it gives the same yields, but Production. To Piopiotahi, it gives "just one Gold less", but depending if you value culture or production more, still a very good yield. Afaik it has the same spawn mechanics. In comparison to the other production wonders, i think it's just slightly worse than Mato Tipila and Torres del Paine, but much better than Vesuvius. Honestly i think low B/strong C Tier should be the case.
@Zondagskind.Gaming Жыл бұрын
Fair enough, maybe I'm too harsh. It just feels worse to have Lysefjord spawn in a place where you can't travel with a boat, than Everest in a place you can't travel with religious units. So my disappointments may weigh more than they should.
@be1gl Жыл бұрын
@@Zondagskind.Gaming The boat stuff, i would mostly skip, it's mostly a gimick, just like everest (normally, you got roads to other civs, or a road, even if not, it's not really something to consider using, if the civ to convert is on the other side). The 1 production on the other hand is very important and it's a 3 tile wonder just like Piopiotahi - 2 either amazing tiles or holy site spots. In case of production - 6 tiles with +1, 3 with +2 improving 12 - like 1 tile wonders with +2 as minor yields, in relation to Torres, surrounded with plains (no hills) would be 8 (and 8 food). But on the other hand, i do not remember, if Lysefjords base tile is allowed on tundra.

and please do not consider that as a negative - it took me multiple months, after they added the 1 production, to really appreciate this change (as with Giant's Causeway culture)

I can see that. I do think there's usually a couple tiles that are nice to work or put a Holy Site on. And if I'm not mistaken, because mountains have an elevated position, it's easier to find them.
