Civ 4: "You'll come crawling back to me."

Tragic that Civ 7 releases 3.5 years after Humankind with similar design choices (begging comparison), yet does most things WORSE than Amplitude Studios' underrated game. Twenty years after Civ 4's debut, such terrible UI design in 2025 is UNACCEPTABLE. My expectations were low, yet I'm still left disappointed by this half-baked beta release by Firaxis (and angered by their transparent money-grab DLC scheme). How many more years and Civ iterations will we have to endure before a game developer finally sees the light and just copies Sullla's "New Civ" road map?

Pretty, but this doesn't feel like continent-level civilization building, more like city simulator. Even combat is bad, ranged units firing further than adjacent tile is for actual civ equal for slinger to shoot hundred miles away. Not impressed.

Sullla, if you ever read this - under accessibility - DISABLE "Enable High Resolution UI Scaling". Makes the game look like it is made for a PC and not made for a stupid console.

Sadly the bad reviews occur because they develop for all platforms. Jack of all Trades Master of None. :( I'm waiting for the Demo. Got burned too many times.

15:35 why are the horses parading down a street from a huge staircase? lol. this whole scene is so nonsensical it looks like they used AI to make it.

I had a similar reaction at first, but I actually really enjoyed the new game mechanics like ages, army commanders, crisis situations etc. The game is a little buggy right now with state changes (i.e you buy a building, but it'll stay in the build options until you close and reopen the build menu). Also I found the AI to be absolutely awful. Ages are clearly a mimic of humankind, which is fine, and they're clearly using it to stop the player from snowballing as hard, which it sort of does? But yea, not a perfect game but I'm definitely enjoying it more than civ 5 and 6 so far. Hopefully, they don't spam out so much dlc (vain hope i know), but yea, actually am enjoying this game quite a lot.

I disagree pretty heavily on the ages. In my opinion these games kind of have to feel somewhat snowballish, else there is almost no noticable reward for having a good game and everything kind of feels mediocre. Getting values cut in advancing feels like the complete opposite of advancement. There are multiple possible solutions to the problem of the player snowballing too far ahead and not playing the game to an end (the devs mentioned that one of the motivations was games actually not getting finished). Ages are not the solution. I'd prefer solutions like being able to end the game faster when you are super far ahead without needing to go to tedious wars with everyone or going through 60+ techs for space/culture (one of the main enjoyment of multiplayer civ is that games rarely go to an actual finish and are voted to end when it is clear who wins). You should be able to just end fast if you are at like double the science and culture as the next closest AI, which sadly enough happens in a lot of civ 6 games by like renaissance age. Also AI needs to be semi compet at the core of the game. It doesnt even need a good AI to present a fair challenge later in the game, if they would focus on getting the AI to be decent at a few core aspects of the game late games could actually be somewhat fun. The earlier civ games had actual hard AI that could pose a thread until late ish in the game and that was not only due to cheats. Civ 3 ai is really bad at chosing the right techs and managing units and workers, so is the civ 4 ai, but they were significant threads because they were good at claiming land and the cheats did the rest. The newer civ games have AIs that are horrible to deal with in the early game due to massive cheats and a complete joke beyond the first turns due to their absolute inability to expand and manage cities.

My understanding is that founder is only the first settler which founds your capital while every other is a settler still which creates a town.

When somebody starts complaining about "woke" it tells reasonable people that they have no sense of compassion or empathy.
