Hi! It's hard to say really and depends what you want to do in the future. I noticed a lot of people want to do management role, but think what do you really like. It's a truth that here in UK engineering is a way to management, but not everyone wants to be a manager 😁

Hi Greg! I've been watching your videos all the time and it really helps me a lot. I am a Filipino Civil Engineer and just recently came here in the UK under a skilled worker visa and now working as a site engineer. I am planning to further my studies and career and I was wondering if you have some tips on what universities offers programmes that Incould take. My engineering degree hin the Philippines is equivalent to foundation degree/ BTEC level 5 here in the UK. Hope you read this and thanks for your videos.

I am an employed site engineer in England (PAYE), have just under 5 years experience on site and a BEng in Civil Engineering. I started off with minimal money obviously, 25k a year and worked my way up to over 45k now. I have actually worked for 4 construction companies and have got a pay rise every time I moved company. The best way to get a pay rise as you can negotiate pay during the interviewing process. I know guys from my Uni that aren’t on as good money as me, due to staying faithful to the one company but not getting the money they perhaps deserve. I also know guys from Uni who are self employed and earning better than me, but I think I am just too comfortable employed, with the benefits of paid holidays and a free work car etc. I have definitely flirted with self employment and may soon venture into it, but I’m definitely glad I have got the good experience I have so far. Being employed I think the construction companies will have a little bit more patience with you, especially when you are young, and provide training etc. I would personally recommend to any young person or site engineer starter to first begin with employment due to the benefits highlighted, and then if they wish to go self employed after 2+ years. I’ve heard of chain men and people who started site engineering get in trouble with taking on too much responsibility too soon, even someone being taken to court for making a huge ‘cock up’ that cost a company a fortune. Why he needed to do was gain vital experience and start off with a lower salary instead of thinking he was Billy big bollock and getting himself in trouble. Regardless of what you do, please gain solid experience and follow your conscience when taking on responsibility, whilst also taking calculated risks to push yourself. Good fortune!
@SITENG

Thank you for the information 👍👍 Definitely to get better pay conditions you have to change the company, even if you are happy with it, it's good to change and come back to the original company as you will get much better pay (few reasons for it). I personally think Self employed might be better as you said you have to jump into 'deep waters', but this way you can progress much quicker and moneywise you're starting from better position. Great to hear your story and really happy you're sharing your opinion as people then can choose seeing pros and cons of working in different type of employment. Thanks again 👍👍

Come here and get whatever job at first really. There are some big jobs running and big to come (HS2, HPC, Sizewell C coming) so there will be constant need for engineers. I can't really say a lot about Geotechnical engineering, but after you do your degree you won't be limited only to geotechnical stuff anyway. Big projects like I mentioned always need engineers with geotechnical knowledge and TBH on every project geotechnical stuff is needed.

I know the guy worked for JRL like this and was paid for 5 days a week and was getting normal engineers money so there are options. If you are in London, or Manchester you can contact them, it's hard and busy, but the money is good and you can still study. Other companies probably do it too.

Hello, next year I will enter the university for the civil and industrial construction program, I plan to enroll in Kazakhstan or Russia. I want to work in the UK, please tell me, is education valued in these countries in the UK? Will I be able to work in the UK after studying here?
@SITENG
@SITENG 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Emil! It should be alright, but you can check the www.ecctis.com page to be sure what universities are accepter and then you can get a statement of comparability. To work in UK you will have to get a permit to work, or student visa etc.

main problem now is finding a job as a graduate. You can expect a junior engineer pay, unless you will go for a paye graduate job - then the money is low

Hi Esen! Planners make good money too, of course first you would have to start as a junior planner to get some experience, but in general planners and quantity surveyors can expect good salary.
