"ras" meaning "leader" or "head", and "tafari" meaning 'awe inspiring" hailee selassie name was "tafari makonnen" when he was born and it roughply translates to "awe inspiring aristocrat." the man even goes on to give himself a name later on which somewhat translates to a holy trinity of 3 elements. my family is amhara from ethiopia. (also the rastafarians were inspired by makonnen in Jamaica and its not a ethiopian religion.)

2 things i did not like about this leader screen. 1 he has literally no emotion save for when you declare war. 2 his voice is higher pitched than it should be in reality Halie Selassie had a deep booming voice. Watch the video of him making a speech at the league of nations you get what i mean with the voice. But all in all still one of the best leader screens despite those gripes.

Huh? HIM did not have a deep Booming voice ! You must be talking about Menelek II. Ethiopian Kings were tied closely to the Orthodox faith. Showing Anger and usage of threatening words in public was a negative thing. They always used phrases such as "In the Name of the lord...." or "if our Lord Jesus Christ allows it", "In trust of virgin Mary", "The one above whom we worship shall guide us to the truth" etc....

Why do the rastas like this guy so much? I don't get it. The slaves that were brought to Jamaica who's ancestors later became the rastas, aren't even from that part of Africa. The only thing I could find was that they like him because he remained independent from all the European colonization. But they don't just think he's a nice guy. I'm not a rasta, but it's because he led a successful black civilization. Ethiopia was once a great and ancient nation, but when a communist coup took over the country got one of the worst famines in history. Ethiopia is seen as an inspiration to Africans and blacks outside of Africa, even to the point where most African countries use the yellow-green-red tricolor on their flag, which Ethiopia started. Also, Haile Selassie a descendant of Solomon so there's a religious tie there.
