More individuality, which results in even more replayability. The only thing I'm really worried about now is my college exam in spring.

I think there should be a sort of Riot System, where if one of your cities got too unhappy, the citizens might riot, so you have to react to that. There would be options such as: 1. Ask them for their demands - The citizens give you a list of demands for what they want. This will quell the riot in 1 turn, and the citizens will be a bit happier, thinking of you as reasonable. However, if you don't meet their demands by a certain number of turns, it will create a lot of unhappiness, increasing the chance of another riot. 2. Beg for mercy - This quells the riot immediately, however, the citizens will think of you as a pushover and start making demands from time to time, with the threat of a riot. 3. Deploy the military - This usually takes a few turns to quell the riot, depending on the city population. The military will be deployed to crack down on rioters. This instills fear into citizens, reducing the chance of a riot. However, non-militaristic empires will lose respect for you, worsening your relationship with them. However, you will gain favour with militaristic empires.

Not really, irl all the land from Europe to Asia was covered by civilisations thousands of years ago. As far a military stacking goes there's a more significant affect than volume or increased "power". If anyone remembers from civ 4, certain units have advantages over others. Cavalry units have a major bonus against siege units, and spear units have a major advantage against cavalry units. So a good combo would be to stack siege and spear. Additionally, adding melee advantaged units (axemen in civ 4) to this stack protects against melee units targeting your spears. I feel like this will play a larger role in civ 6.
@WillieBeamon88 жыл бұрын
Yeah I'm the most excited about this. It was a pain to strategically move a large army in Civ 5 because of the stacking. It'll be fun to experiment with different combos to see what advantages and disadvantages stacking has on Civ 6.
@dominegem8 жыл бұрын
+WillieBeamon8 My first Civ was Civ Rev on Xbox and while I did enjoy it it wasn't that good. In that game you could stack the 3 of same military unit to make a bigger stronger unit by fusing them; and that was all I could do because if I sent a single unit it would undoubtedly be killed. I sincerely hope is not like that and it is as you guys are speculating and you can make combos of different units.
@zyonchaos18188 жыл бұрын
I thought that was both a plus and negative for the game, being able to stack and make a stronger unit great, being limited to 3 of the same unit was crap. Would have been better if you could mix and match!

I love building stuff all over the map!
@GamerZakh8 жыл бұрын
Oh no worries there. Some of the footage we've seen has a blank map where you haven't explored. In the videos I think they reveal a lot just so it doesn't look too blank.
@EvilScrooge8 жыл бұрын
GamerZakh That actually made me feel a lot better. Exploring is something I always cherished in any video game. Another thing I'm worried about though, is the smaller number of tile enhancements. Does that mean less resources? Removing number of resources in sequels to strategy games seems to be a common practice these days. Another thing is the map size. With unstacked cities I surely would expect an increase in map sizes from Civ 5. I also hope they will let me play on the actual continents of various sizes (i.e large Europe or Africa only)
@EvilScrooge8 жыл бұрын
GamerZakh And even another issue I have after watching a bit of the demo! Seems like guy managed to improve half of his tiles and build a second city way too quickly! (I see its lousily sped up to make game look worse) I really hope this doesn't mean we will be able to build ourself thriving civilization in a short time! Either that or map is incredibly humongous in size. That could mean we will go through all the eras even quicker and in even less turns than Civ5!!!!! Would that mean we won't have a chance to destroy all other civilizations without even getting to industrial age? I don't like when game goes too fast! Nukes are not for me... Now I'm worried.
@GamerZakh8 жыл бұрын
EvilScrooge Don't worry too much about the gameplay footage they've shown. Ed Beach has said it's not entirely representative, that it's been sped up, and many things that happen in that video aren't realistically portrayed-like sending out a settler so easily or that unit that was artificially levelled up to go and own barbarians.

I both like and dislike the unstacked city idea. It kind of messes with my head though, because it seems to make the scale of the maps weird. Unless the maps are 10x the size which by the looks of the videos so far they actually seem to be smaller. Moving stylized graphics is a huge red flag as well from my experience. So far I haven't seen anything that makes me think this is the right direction, it reminds me a lot of what happened to sim city and rail road tycoon series.
@unholywolf19458 жыл бұрын
think the demos have been on either tiny or duel maps so naturally they look small, and they game looks great to me, besides have you played the older civ titles, 4 had stylised graphics but was great. Don't think you need to be worrying just yet.

Yeah considering that cities take up so much space now the world size should at least triple. We don't want London to take over all of Southern England
@unholywolf19458 жыл бұрын
Tommy Mag they take up the same space just function differently so you're pushed towards building wider which I think is good as it'll lead to more war

But earlier cities took up 1 space. Now if they take up 5, we will be needing a lot more tiles, or there will be hordes of giant cities, if you for instance play on an "Earth" map"

Kinda disappointed that while talking about districts, roads and local happiness you didn't mention Endless Legend, because these three things were clearly taken from it (although local happiness was also a thing in previous civ games). Especially the districts which is probably the only significant change from Civ5 - all other changes mostly either come from the districts system or are just the evolution of already existed mechanics. Don't get me wrong, It's ok to take ideas from other games to develop them in your own way, but I still think that EL at least deserved a mention here.

Alright, here's my take: 1. Unstacked Cities - Neither here nor their. This adds some interesting complexity to the game but I didn't really have a problem with stacked cities. 2. Localised Happiness - Yes! Good move! 3. Roads by Trade - Depends on how trade routes are handled. If I have a sprawling empire, will I have to focus on internal traderoutes just to get a decent road network? Do roads disappear if a trade route gets cancelled? I'm not opposed to this new road system, but I'd like to learn more details. 4. Agendas and Gossip - Cool. This seems like a huge improvement over Civ 5's diplomacy. 5. Unit Stacking - Good. I'm glad that it's limited to a degree to stop people from building stacks of doom, but one unit per tile was just a pain in the ass. Moving an army across the map in formation felt kind of tedious. 6. Eureka moments - I like the idea. 7. Civics - This one is always kind of tricky. You want to make civics powerful enough so that they have a significant effect on strategy but not so powerful that people feel they need to use certain civics to get a certain victory. I guess we'll see. 8. Religion - Interesting way of implementing it. I'm optimistic. 9. Multiplayer - I prefer to play against the AI, but if I did play multiplayer, I'm glad that there are options. 10. Viable Playstyles - All civ games brag about having multiple viable playstyles. That's usually true at lower difficulties but on higher difficulties, it seems like there are a limited number of viable strategies - there's just no room for error. I'm not sure how Civ 6 will fix this. Overall, I'm happy with five of these new aspects and neutral/undecided about five. But I'm not opposed to any of them. I give it a 7.5/10 on my game-hype-o-metre.

For the record, they have mentioned that there is a tech you research, probably classical era but uncertain for now, that allows you to build roadways without trade routes. Also the way they've been talking about them makes it sound like the roads are permanent (because trade routes to other countries could be used against you if that country then uses the road to invade which wouldn't make sense if they disappeared).
@tomaszmagierowski21668 жыл бұрын
They should let us build roads with workers as well as with trade

Local happiness was in Civ1-Civ4.
@Phlebas8 жыл бұрын
03germas Yeah, which is why I feel like Civ 5 took a step back by implementing global happiness. Though I do get the reasoning for why Civ 5 implemented it. In previous games, the Civ with the most cities generally won, so spamming settlers was a major part of the strategy. Civ 5 discouraged that strategy and also made building tall (rather than wide) empires a viable strategy. The only problem was that the system felt way too punitive.

Dumbed down for stupid people, 1 turn instant builds.. alot more sleeping now whilst nothing happens for a 100 turns. As for your note on trading with other civs, they can also trade with you.. thus you might not build a road to them, they can still build a road to you. Then march their soldiers directly to you through that previously difficult jungle or over those hills you builts behind. Ability to wipe out the soldier production area or research etc.. just means you'll need more defending soldiers and have less to attack with. Could almost imagine Civ6 was made by the same morons that made Civ BE. Such a shame, Civ Rev Meets Civ Be.. Only 2 improvements I've seen so far, impassible cliffs on shoreline and a day/night cycle. No World Congress.. yep, they don't want their new players to have to think too much about diplomacy.
@GamerZakh8 жыл бұрын
But the instant build is a specific change to reduce 'waiting around' as explained in their blog post. We all used to wait around for improvements to be built. You mean because we aren't watching the builders build we'll be waiting more? We haven't seen how much there is to do each turn early game but with districts, early game trade, and a bigger focus on building new cities for expansion, those are more things to do each turn. Nothing else you said supports the idea that we'll be waiting around more compared to how much we already wait in Civ 5, so I'd be interested if you could elaborate on that. We don't know if you can just trade with another Civ without permission and diplomacy is said to become more complex as the game progresses. At the start of the game, your borders won't even count because people who can't read or write won't be able to recognise national borders. Preventing trade with a civ could likely be an option, but admittedly both of us can only guess at this point. Yes, defence now needs to be deployed to protect your districts but we have no idea on the balance, how long it takes to build units considering civics, or how unit stacking will really work. Plus the military district adds extra defence for your tiles away from cities and we've seen relatively early game ranged units shoot 2 tiles away. There are also civics that can improve your defences and we've seen fortifications but not how they work. This all can balance out how defence works now. Civ 6 development is led by Ed Beach, the guy who led the development of the Civ 5 expansions that made Civ 5 a good game. He's also ensured that Civ 6 will launch with things like proper religion and archaeology in place, so we won't be waiting for a DLC for those. World Congress was not in Civ 5 at launch either and the fact that it relies heavily on the meta game once millions of people are playing means that it would be horribly unbalanced if it was in at launch and they would risk it being game breaking. Considering the changes to diplomacy getting more advanced over time, the stated 'very formal' diplomacy of the modern world compared to the 'wildwest' of more ancient times, and the gossip system to discover opponents civics/government/agendas to play people against each other, I don't see how diplomacy is any more simplified compared to previous Civ games. I'm all for scepticism and concern over how unreleased games are turning out but what you've said so far doesn't really support your concerns. I'd be interested if you went into more detail so I could better see where you're coming from.

Enemies building roads, via trading with you, is a good point tho. I'm more the builder type of player and I already see me hating certain warmonger enemies for trading with me.
@GamerZakh8 жыл бұрын
Sure, but as I said, there might be ways of stopping this or it might not even be possible let to open trade with someone without their consent or enacting some kind of foreign trade policy. We can only guess at this point and there's no point getting upset on a guess.
@MegaRugster8 жыл бұрын
They've dumbed it down.. there's no point hoping for common sence being added to a game that's being made so simple preschool kids can play it. I think it's horrible what they've done to the Civ line of games.. if this was coming out on a console it'd be alright, expected even, but with their latest pc releases it's almost as if they're insulting people on purpose. There's also another big issue with trade built roads, since the entire road is now built within a single turn, that allows almost instant ambushes, send a scout, wait for army to leave to attack someone else.. then trader in, road, wipe out. Even if you just hammered their science you're gonna effectively remove them from the game whilst they try to make repairs. Before you could see someone running workers out towards you and declare war on them or even just block them, now, you have no chance. Ai will trade with you however they can, so you'll have an indefinite crisscrossing of roads between nations. Ai wars will be suicide armies to destroy your provinces then run away or die. And this isn't just guessing.. it's "educated guessing" ;) You can see it happening.. graphics aside.. you can see how entire games will play out and yet never own the game.

I seriously don't understand. If all of your important buildings are outside of the city itself, doesn't that make them super exposed to attack? I already have to deal with attacking armies fucking up all of my mines and farms with sieges as it is, now I'm deliberately putting all of my buildings outside of the walls??
@Darkpumpkin218 жыл бұрын
That's the point. It is supposed to make things more complex when you attack a city.
@GamerZakh8 жыл бұрын
To balance this, your military district is also outside your city and can fire upon the enemy once walls are built. We've also seen fortresses but haven't seen how they function specifically. There should also be civics that help defend your lands too. We also don't know how repairing tiles work now that there aren't any workers.
@tomaszmagierowski21668 жыл бұрын
In my opinion they should just make city walls around the entire city, and units have to "breach" them.
@Darkpumpkin218 жыл бұрын
That'd be cool. Expands around your territory Not sure how breaching would work though.
@tomaszmagierowski21668 жыл бұрын
Breaching can basically be when either a melee unit "attacks" the wall (like laying ladders) or siege equipment bombs it from afar. Once the wall is breached units can move through it while earlier they were stuck outside them.

My main concern: I wish there was a canal district. Think of it this way, devote one tile to a canal district. This will allow you to expand on sea based commerce and it can allow you to move military units through land. The limits would be that you can only build a canal district on a beach tile or adjacent to another canal district. The canal district should only be built within your civ's borders. Perhaps it can also act as a buff for production or gold. You could also make it unique to Teddy Roosevelt (Panama canal) or at least give a canal building buff for America.

Keeping all the good stuff of civ 5 and then expanding upon new features is enough to get me hyped, especially since it means expansions might actually add new features, instead of old ones (like religion on G&K) Well, just watched the number 11...I guess my comment wasn't 100% correct, but I'm still satisfied
