He was running Like a man who has jumped up in the dark and runs Listening between his footfalls for the reason Of his still running, and his foot hung like Statuary in mid-stride. Then the shot-slashed furrows Threw up a yellow hare that rolled like a flame And crawled in a threshing circle, its mouth wide Open silent, its eyes standing out. He plunged past with his bayonet toward the green hedge, King, honour, human dignity, etcetera Dropped like luxuries in a yelling alarm To get out of that blue crackling air His terror’s touchy dynamite."

Man, I'm sorry, I don't get the people going on about shedding tears over this cinematic. Everyone's got different tastes, I guess, but this cinematic really was a let-down. I mean this with the most respect too, I've been really looking forward to Civ VII and I still am. This one did not feel at all thrilling or climactic as the first cinematics from Civilization VI, Beyond Earth, or even Civilization V. This one really was okay, at best. But it just seemed like there were so many missed opportunities to show off the highlights of each age that this game will have (as Civ VI does super well in its cinematic). A lot of focus on a sword that I'm still not sure why it's so special, some random World War soldier in the end looking at the sky that had nothing to do with any sword. Good to see the people look somewhat more realistic than Civ VI (Civ V still takes the trophy), but really a step down from past Civ game cinematics. Hopefully, the expansion cinematics will be better. Still holding out faith in you, Firaxis! Excited for the game.

@TheKansleren29 күн бұрын
Seconded. This was a massive disappointment. I understand that if your local culture is heavily present in this, you might find some additional excitement from it, but that isn’t really a testament to quality. Where is the feeling of a grand epic? Why is a game which is literally about the emergent effects of collective actions, focusing on a single individual, with a magic sword that somehow stays relevant through thousands of years, even though that is diametrically opposed to whole Sid Meier Civilization concept (i.e research better swords). This was… sad. Looking forward to the game though! It looks great!
@Sreerags595929 күн бұрын
Mostly because of the cultures represented, I'd assume. As an Indian, this felt like home, and not just because of Asoka. There's an aspect of a shared history of the Asian continent here.
@andrewfrischknecht162728 күн бұрын
@@TheKansleren My thoughts exactly. Couldn’t have said it better myself. I totally get it if someone feels represented in a video like this, that feeling is great. If I saw Switzerland in the cinematic, that’d be super. And I’ve always wanted to see CH as a civ in the game. But it still wouldn’t change my mind about the quality of the video and the story it’s telling if it were told the same way. Representation does not grant automatic quality to a story. The Beyond Earth cinematic, for example, included another part of the world with the representation of the female character from India (if that’s accurate), but that’s not what made it grand and epic. It was the story of the individuals in the cinematic that made it epic and represented the Beyond Earth mission in a powerful way.

It's telling a specific narrative about Ashoka's sword and the cycle of violence, which is pretty well-done I think. A man who dropped it in regret at all the violence he caused followed by a dancer using it to create art, only for it to end up in the hands of violent warriors again, the cycle continuing until it is found by a farmer with a rocket flying behind him-as potentially hopeful as it is ominous since it could be either one heading towards the stars or one aimed at the Earth.

@@Hifuutorian While I do appreciate the explanation (which does indeed constitute a solid narrative), and have no quarrels with the symbols employed by the trailer, I'm more concerned with the fact that usually the Civilization series represents a broader range of cultures (at least in its trailer materials).
@HifuutorianАй бұрын
@@oleh_lunin I feel like that's a really silly concern, given how previous entries in the franchise have done a _not_ good job at representing a broader range of cultures; They're very eurocentric. They've steadily become less so but it is still very noticeable. It's also interesting that you only mentioned Europe and not say, African or American cultures or even other parts of Asia. (Not accusing you of anything; Just that it might be an unconscious bias.) This game has done a lot to not only go wider, but also much deeper than previous entries have. Even the European cultures are so much more in-depth now. Singular individual parts of the Roman civilization are leagues more interesting than the single bonus they got in previous games and are more faithful to them too as an example. Their unique 'civilian' unit is a Commander (Basically, a Great General+extra stuff) that starts with an extra promotion and when they have three, they can make a settlement for free. That's only a single part of their bonuses and it's a historically relevant one that has gone completely underutilized in previous titles.

@@Hifuutorian well, calling it "silly" kinda devalues my opinion, to be honest. The reason I mentioned Europe was specifically because certain African and Asian cultures indeed got represented in the trailer (I did note the absence of, say, Oceanian, or Southern American cultures too, if that's what you meant). I do agree that the new systems allow exploring cultural development with more precision than ever before. However, the experience of Humankind, that attempted a similar thing, showed that this can be a double-edged sword, so we'll have to see how that works. My concern; however, involved only the trailer, the video above, nothing else. It's nicely crafted and coherent, that much can't be disputed (although the quality of animations seems kinda outdated even by Civ V standards, and this is coming from a person, who doesn't really value graphics in video games). Yet, in my opinion, it was odd that no European culture was represented there at all. It doesn't mean that other cultures represented in the video are not worth mentioning, far from it; yet it feels strangely tilted outwards from european cultures, in my opinion.

@@oleh_lunin I feel like this is your perspective speaking. While I agree that it would've been great to see more cultures represented in the trailer, to say that previous Civ trailers gave importance to more cultures is a bit of a stretch. Again, I am speaking from a Non-western PoV. To me, the cultural representation in eariler Civ trailers always looked like a generic European idea of what's important to other cultures. On the other hand, Western history seemed to have been treated more than fairly. I don't see anything wrong with it, as it is obvious that even the glimpses of specific historical snippets can be more meaningful to the people from those parts of the World. This trailer did the same, but the other way around and portraying a lot less cultures than they should've. I mean, obviously, an image of Jeanne D'arc wouldn't be as meaningful to an Indian as it would be to the French. To them, Ashoka dropping the sword would be way more impactful, as he is arguably THE most important emperor in the history of the country, and they would want it to be represented more and properly than however India was represented before in the trailers. The same goes for rest of the Asian cultures. It's a move in the right direction, but then again, I agree, a Civ trailer shouldn't be this exclusive.

I'm so shook to see more Vietnamese representation in this cinematic. From the simple farmer to the "modern day" soldier (I think that's during the Vietnam Civil War era). Civilization thank you for representing more of Vietnam history and culture!

Seriously, thanks for this video your sharing. I realized and accepted the reality in life to move on and leave the past behind because the future is waiting. My relationship is just ended this month, it's like on and off relationship though I still love my ex so much but she's still looking for many women to feel satisfied

@JamesOversteer thanks man, we can get all through this, life is hard. To be honest, I don't understand my life ever since I was young. I feel like whatever I do good, it failed. When I invested of so much love in my past relationships it failed again because of my previous partner who are not being loyal towards me. My dreams and goals failed. I had a big dream and goals picture since I was younger and have targets of years but the years already passed the bracket but still I didn't make it because of my sick brother that I need to taking care of. I wondered also when I sow a seed in the backyard of our house ever since I was young and upto now, the seeds won't grow.There's so many questions in my mind maybe I'm cursed for not getting those dreams that I wanted to and goals. All my relationships failed and those broken dreams
