This is the best Aston Villa team in decades! In Emery we trust Up The Villa 💜💙

Feel like that's every game this season where subs have come on and made a huge difference. Duran gets the headlines but Barkley and Maatsen class again today. Gutted for the SJM injury but not worried because of our depth. Last season this would have been devastating for us.

It really feels great having a strong bench. They are picking up so many points this season. Barkley was excellent as was Maatsen and Duran.

Matt - the consummate professional tonight, stable Wi-Fi, good audio. Dan - your mic was bopping around like you were on the waltzers 😂. Quality as always. Love these celebration pods 💜💙

Our squd depth is now terrific. Maatsen, Barkley and Duran chamged the game for me. Sadly, I think the team has moved up a level from players like SJM and Carlos. As much as I love SJM I just dont think he cuts it anymore.

I mentioned last week in the comments 2 names you should interview for a tribute to Gary shaw. Kendrick I’m looking at you to do it. Lisa smith and Grant Adams. Both knew him and were obviously impacted by him for the Villa. Both great speakers. Lisa with a background in bham mail. You may get some great stories out of them. Shaw was an absolute character. Some of his stories should live on.

I think - much as we love him - McGinn doesn't fit our BEST 11...not wide anyway. Bailey (tho only 90% imo today) our best 'Ray Graydon'....Tielemans is in control in midfield..Onana when we need to be defensive; which we can default to with wide threats - Digne (Injury?) has imo been our near best player this season and pre....who do we drop to make McGinn feature? Ramsey? Rogers? Perhaps we need these changes to be less predictable as we have yet to have a clean sheet. discussion MOST welcomed.

With an England player memorial - a minute's silence is exactly right. With the Villa though - no. HEITS means something then, and I'm always going to sing it. And I know a lot will... it surprises me that ALL don't, tbh, but perhaps that's just different perspectives. It was a nice touch for the Holte to add a Gary Shaw verse to God's Hymn though - as we did for Dalian and Ugo. Loved the game. Second week in a row Villa have made me plenty of £££ waiting for us to go behind before putting anything on us :) - which I guess makes it my round now so... on the piss m'lord on the piss.... Gary Shaw, m'lord, gary shaw! Gary Shaw, m'lord, Gary Shaw! Ooooh, lord, Gary Shaw!

Pau was brilliant crap in defence against Everton but a brilliant all round performance today

we should be low key and trust the process & we need to stop going 1 or 2 down, but Villa look really good. Could go 4 down, I just love Unai. The Don

Why have not used the under 21 striker do you think we will use he in the cup

Yet again the villa excelled themselves with the fans trying to get into the ground (upper and lower Holte) …again taking twenty of so minutes trying to get through turnstiles and missing all the tributes to Gary Shaw.

Ollie doesn't look like the player of last season, is he injured?

Think he's had this ongoing niggle for a while now. Perhaps a rest at Wycombe will help? Still, on the scoresheet though!

@@ClaretBluePod today against the Dingles he was being out sprinted by defenders at times so not the player from last season yet . Hopefully whatever it is it's sorted soon UTV 🏐🏐🏐🏐🏐🏐

@@ClaretBluePod He was running the Dingle back line all over the place today. Yeah, he wasn't the fastest every time, but he worked non-stop, and caused them havoc. The first half, a lot of our play was built-up to get him on to the ball, and sadly, it didn't work because they'd set up to block our cenrtal game, and 'ginny - bless him - didn't offer enough width to allow the space. Ollie had a brilliant game... as for whether he's as good as last year yet... that's a good question - and I'd love to see the data, but on the eyeballs, he's back. UTV
