I've played in big bands / jazz bands for almost 50 years and have always had to double on clarinet (+ bass clarinet and flute). To say that there are no clarinets in jazz band is not at all accurate. To be fair, though, you should learn sax - it's not a big jump (and I think it's easier than clarinet).
@Officialclarinetman Жыл бұрын
@@johnfogg7858I will disagree with you in terms of him learning sax because of Jazz, in Cuba and some related countries The Clarinet is very dominant in their own traditional Jazz, so we need to encourage more clarinet players to start practicing how to improvise
@Officialclarinetman Жыл бұрын
I was told same when I was in the university, but by Gods Grace I have my own band where the clarinet plays a leading role in various genres like Jazz, pop, highlife

@@Officialclarinetman I'm talking about the real world in the USA where there are WAY more musicians than there are opportunities to play for money. If you want to make any money playing jazz woodwinds, you'd better be able to double. You can espouse ideals all that you want but ideals won't feed you.
