Permitted for recreational use in New York and medical purposes in Morocco - things are gradually shifting for cannabis. Long demonized and banned, the plant has caused a rift between parents and children for generations.
Mohamed comes from the northern region of Ketama, the cannabis farming stronghold of Morocco. Like most people who live in the area, his family relies on cannabis cultivation for its livelihood. In 2021, the government legalized the growing of cannabis for medical and cosmetic purposes. The journalist and activist has been fighting for years for this legalization and against criminality in the Rif mountains. Morocco is one of the world’s largest hashish exporters. But Mohamed’s enthusiasm for this new legislation is not shared by his mistrustful parents and the elders of his home region .
Mone’t lives in Far Rockaway, Queens, New York, a low-income neighborhood where 45 per cent of residents are African-American. The young Guyanese-American woman works as a political advisor and owns a small cannabis business. She’s been smoking weed since she was 16 years old and has experienced first-hand the illegal drugs trade and all its associated problems, among them murder and imprisonment. Mone’t’s mother Stachia rejects this aspect of her daughter’s lifestyle completely. She can’t see past the plant’s bad rap and its involvement in a family tragedy.
Will Mohamed be able to convince his father and the elders of his home region that legalization is a good thing?
Following the legalization of cannabis in New York, will Stachia be able to overcome her fears and support her daughter?

Lmfao 😂😂 nope sorry man, but the best hashish is coming out Canada my friend!!! Moroccan hash doesn't even come close to what these fully legal companies are putting out there. We used get ALOT of Moroccan and Lebanese(blonde hash) all the time during the 90's through to the 2000's, and yeah it WAS better than most of the local hash, but it does NOT even come close to being as good as the hashish and other concentrates we have today here In Canada, we've been fully legal for recreational purposes for about 5 years now, and the quality of flower, hash, and concentrates is world class, Moroccan hash is decent (good) but its nothing compared to what we have available here. We have companies producing flowers (bud) with THC levels as high as 37% THC, thats the highest that I personally have had.
@chelsea_Xxo

@@Tigercats1976why do u think there are these percentages? It’s all because its chemically enhanced. You talk a lot for someone who doesn’t know what actually goes on in the industry these days. Legal companies have guidelines and rules for the benefit of your health, that’s why the thc levels may be lower, but on long term it will be way better for your body, since these chemicals ALWAYS come with a price

Really interesting to hear the different perspectives. Here in Aotearoa/New Zealand, we held a referendum on legalisation and narrowly missed out. A lot of people who were against felt confident that people could still access medicinal marijuana and didn't believe in legalising recreational use. My own fears of medical marijuana being out of the reach of low income people turned out to be founded. Medical marijuana is still prohibitively expensive here and so low income people need to source it illegally. Not only that, hemp is still restricted to licenced growers, despite the level of THC being to low to get anyone high. So anyone wanting to make their own CBD oil can't and CBD oil remains more expensive than medical THC oil. I suspect if we held the referendum again the outcome would be in favour of legalisation.
@The01Ghost
@The01Ghost 6 ай бұрын
Yeah we missed a huge chance didnt we?.. We failed in that referendum coz we still have so many boomers alive, the same greedy generation mankind has ever known.. And now, we are reversing our ciggarette ban, right after price gouging ciggs for over a decade, creating a whole new vaping industry, all for what????... Money!.... The reason why the govt struggles to legalise weed here in NZ is bcoz they find it difficult to tax, its all about money, but the less boomers NZ has, the better off we will be..
@NyreeAlana
@NyreeAlana 6 ай бұрын
@@The01Ghost I don't disagree, but I think it's important to realise that their generation was fed a lot of misinformation about very valuable medicinal drugs that were becoming popular recreationally. Seeing that these drugs were steering young people away from conformity and ignorant compliance they not only banned them entirely, but embarked on a huge propaganda campaign to make people afraid of them and it worked. But the boomers can be reeducated, my parents are proof of that and also some of those boomers have been fighting tirelessly for our rights, don't forget that. I think the boomers you are referring to are those in parliament and connected high places,, those who are clinging to their power and control with a death grip, they are the ones that need to go. But then there are so many left, the majority that aren't even boomers, so maybe you're using it as a word to describe older people, as has become common. And we should never forget how much we can learn from older people, especially so we can try and avoid repeating the mistakes of history. And there are still plenty of privileged, rightwing young people who are carrying on from where their elders left off. Humans are complicated, stubborn and fearful and meaningful change doesn't happen quickly.

Framing this as a generation gap is ageist and ignorant. It is precisely the boomers who advocated for legalization in North America and Europe through the 1960s and beyond. In fact, marijuana was in large part decriminalized in the 1970s in the USA. The turn about is/was rooted in politics and greed, not a generation gap. Do your homework before you produce documentaries, to not do so makes you a contributor to spreading misinformation, and hence, social divisiveness. This is not responsible journalism.

Let me guess, u drink alcohol? So u probably participated in hard drugs, while cannabis at best is soft, and shouldn’t even be on there, as it has medicinal properties that outweigh it far more

You’re right about that, good thing marijuana is only a plant. But yeah, all those bottles of pills in your cabinet. Or the ones the doctors try to give you don’t take those kids drugs are bad for you. Stick to what the planet gives you for your health. 🍄 🌸 🌲 ❤️

Why speak only about recreational use in minorities? Why not speak about everyone's needs, patients needing it as medicine, research conducted regarding its health and social benefits? Kind of missed opportunity here.
