I'm from Nepal, it grows wild everywhere, you can see fields of it, almost every farmer keeps a little in the villages for medical purposes for animals and sometimes humans, other than that few people smoke them, others don't really care. It's just very normal. It is really not a big thing. I'm pretty sure cigarettes have caused far more harm than weed over the years.

So yes, you make a good argument for legalization.

I am 56 yrs old and I have used cannabis since I was 15. I don't drink. I own my home and I raise my children as a single father. For the first time in my adult life I am not a criminal, for the first time I have the full PROTECTION of the law that everyone else has taken for granted all their lives, for the first time I am truly free, without fear, a law abiding citizen. I am a Canadian who has been living in Thailand since 2009. Watching the program on CNA regarding cannabis in Thailand, I can't wait for a similar documentary on the effects of alcohol on both the individual and society. However, because that drug has been offically approved by governments and society, that documentary probably won't happen anytime soon.Too bad as in my lifetime I have never seen any fistfights or other violent behavior resulting from cannabis use unlike alcohol. When people say this i ask them what’s your longest break from the substance. 100 days? 200 days? A year ? 2 or more years? Most recreational users will say that their month or second month off proves they are not addicted then continually use their substance everyday or multiple times a week. Addiction can have lots of defintions and ultimately i think people use substances recreationally to mask mental health issues that have not been fixed their entire life. It’s a like a numbing feeling. Fasting can help people see themselves and their blind spots.

This CNA production on cannabis in Thailand only portrays the negative aspects of its use. If Singapore, as a country, is opposed to it, then CNA Singapore should keep their opinions to themselves and not interfere with other countries' rules and regulations. While Singapore's strict smoking rules are admirable, Thailand has a more relaxed attitude towards it, and people here can smoke anywhere without the need to stand in ridiculous yellow boxes. It's important to make the documentary fair and unbiased. Why did CNA Singapore delete information about how cannabis can save lives, especially children with seizures, adults with depression, and those with conditions like insomnia and loss of appetite? If CNA Singapore plans to produce a documentary in Thailand, they should address the FICA situation in Singapore and attacks on human rights defenders first, before stirring up trouble in other country's affairs.

Very informative documentary. One question: don't you think the increase in hospitalization is because now people feel safe to go to the hospital in the first place without getting prosecuted. Perhaps before the legalization the same amount of people consumed and experienced issues, but perhaps slept it off at home and didn't go to the hospital because they didn't feel safe to do so. I think it's very hard to see the direct correlation because the legal context has changed significantly.

Cannabis has more benefits than alcohol & tobacco, and needs to be treated exactly in the same manner. Thailand's decriminalization is on the right direction and should be lauded and looked at by other S.E. Asian nations in a positive manner, rather than negative. Recently, a man in Singapore was executed for smuggling cannabis. Which I find is a regressive judgement. Thailand is a progressive country with some of the world's loveliest people. They are sensible and the issues due to this new ruling will settle down shortly. With anything new, there is initial excitement and we humans tend to go overboard, but it will settle down.

The answer is education and sensible regulations. The problem Thailand (and many parts of Asia) has is the reactionary jump to follow the west's lead on many issues. The Cannabis ban in Thailand was done as a reaction to what the west was doing, because the west banned it Thais then banned it to be seen as a modernizing/westernized country. Then America legalized it and Thailand follows... The problem now is the centuries of common knowledge Thais had of its sensible use was lost when it was banned, now it has to be relearned and that will take time, but banning it outright again is not the answer.

One of the major topics this documentary didn't report on is the drug addiction problem that Thailand (and its neighbouring countries) have been facing for many years. And what I mean by drug addiction isn't actually cannabis but is rather the meth/ice addiction/ecstacy addiction which are synthetic drugs and causes way more harm to its people. So by doing this the Thai government is trying its best to solve that issue. The subject of debate should really be the regulation of THC content thats allowed to be cultivated and sold - and just focus more on the medicinal properties of CBD. Because people can can most certainly get addicted, and it will definitely affect the grey matter at the frontal lobe of the brain and can cause psychosis (see Dr Andrew Huberman's) episode on the effects of Cannabis. I would advocate more on all governments to invest in rehabilitation programmes which is effective for society like the Narcotics Anonymous 12 step programme and curb the addiction disease. PS: the number one killer drug in this world is actually sugar & vegetable oils.(PUFA) And no major mainstream media is actually talking about it bcos.. big pharma.

The reason sugar is legal is because in younger people it's beats them up a lot more giving them more energy to cause them to be able to do more work as long as they are keeping the energy level up therefore be governments are lining their pockets more than they would be with marijuana being illegal so they try to make marijuana illegal to make more money from it and sugar legal so they can make more money from it

Despite claims to the contrary, there is no conclusive evidence that cannabis is addictive, and there have been no reported deaths directly caused by its consumption. Meanwhile, alcohol and cigarettes are widely acknowledged as two of the most addictive substances in the world, and they are responsible for more deaths than any other drug or behavior. Despite this, they remain legal and socially acceptable in many parts of the world, leading some to question the fairness of current drug policies and the stigmatization of certain substances.

Problem with letting adults have the freedom to consume something is that there are some that don’t know when to stop. This can also be applied to alcohol. 1 beer isn’t a problem it’s what happens when certain adults consume too much of it. Who’s going to do the policing of that? And once the gov sets stringent laws to govern the fallout, the same people that preach for freedom to smoke and drink will say that sg gov is anti human rights etc. 😂😂😂😂😂 most people that want Singapore to make cannabis legal is because they probably want to smoke it themselves 😂😂😂😂😂

There needs to be more education on the products and usage,I absolutely agree. The government needs to concentrate on safety first to make it a success and help Thai people create a sustainable business that will lift a lot of them out of poverty. As for addiction, everything in moderation we will always have those that overuse it! I was an opioid addict for more than 10 years too .. weed helps me stay off .. people need to stop vilifying it they mix weed with Yaba alcohol and ice and go nuts and do stupid sht.. of course they blame weed lol .. yes Thailand f ed up the rollout but weed is good for you .. and I love Thai stick .. it’s almost all i smoke .. we won’t stop smoking even if they make it illegal again just like we did before it came medically legal .. and also decriminalized In 2022

IMO, you should do a follow up story about what’s going on upcountry and rural areas. Pretty much everyone besides foreigners are priced out of any of the dangerous aspects of its decriminalization. Strong stuff and edibles are expensive and inaccessible for the average rural thai. Pretty much every household I’ve been to has some really beginner home grown of unknown species that is extremely weak. I think in general that scientist doing the medical discovery and administration and kitty are on the right track.

You may also wish to check sales of alcohol and cigarettes in Thailand. I haven’t yet. But I suspect it’s gone down. With no alcohol being abused crime will automatically go down. Grow up raffles slaves.

Week after legalization there were some kids who overdosed by marihuana. Well - week after invention of knife there were many people cut. But society handled it without government (any kind of it) intervention. It only needed to explain how to use this tool properly. Why there is so many people who cant understand this simple thing?? :O

Many governments classify it as a narcotic, but how many of them make it illegal to SELL the drug versus own it? I think owning it has been becoming increasingly decriminalised. 39 people in three months is like 13 a month out of the whole population. That sounds kind of low actually. And plus, what exactly does cannabis intoxication mean? What are the health consequences? Is it like alcohol intoxication? What are the comparative figures of patients who go to hospital for alcohol poisoning and which have worse health outcomes? What was the previous numbers of people who incurred jail terms per month for cannabis and thus got a record? Was that more than 13 a month? What were the symptoms used to diagnose addiction and is it self reported? How does it compare to other so called narcotics? What's with the scary music and dark lighting? I also think teachers have something new to deal with every year, from over use of poppits to over exposure to electronic devices etc. Educating about cannabis while it is decriminalised should be far better a situation because you don't have to deal with a situation where you have to report your own students but can offer counsel instead and talk to the parents. Also most of the issues seem to be teething ones like when any new policy is created. A planned age restriction of 25, accompanied with an education campaign and a slower more controlled rollout one district at a time would have been better obviously. Perhaps Singapore should take notes for the future...

13 people a month in a country with a population of over 70 million, I guarantee that the number of people that actually die from alcohol poisoning is many orders of magnitude higher than 13 people a month.

I'm from The Netherlands and here cannabis has been semi-legalized since I believe the 70's. I never heard of an overdose of cannabis or anyone dieing from it. If you smoke too much you can pass out, but you definitely don't need to go to a hospital. Maybe if you eat a lot of it at once it can be bad, but I never heard of it.

Cannabis intoxication means anxiety, dizziness and sometimes vomiting. Usually from edibles. Youths always make a full recovery without having to take medication. Just drink water and wait it out! Remember, every day in every country in the world people die from alcohol. Zero deaths from Cannabis!

My recent trip to Bangkok I was shocked to see so many weed shops and carts. Most of the customers are Thais or Westerners. *Even 7-11 sells water with weed in it so just make sure to see the label. I guess if the shop has weed most will state it.
