Thanks for this. Never seen a video showing a driver of a relatively modern Diesel-electric loco struggling with wet / greasy rails before. I wonder if the rail condition is still from the effects of Autumn `leaves on the line' where chemicals in the leaves react with the steel rail resulting in a very slippery surface. Video of the speedo & Ammeter @ 22:47. At 24:04 the Wheelslip light (above the Ammeter) can be seen to start lighting up and the Speedo & Ammeter needles show the problems he's having. I wonder was sand available. Plenty of rail enthusiasts taking an interest 26:27; notice also the carriage steam heating. Don't know if the steam boiler is amongst all those valves, controls & gauges but the large pressure gauge clearly states `Steam' 22:08. At 19:58 is I imagine the main generator and shortly after that what looks like a small cooker for the crew. The guy inspecting the engine room doesn't appear to be wearing ear defenders; lets hope that they're the more hidden type!

i remember a driver telling me that you're not supposed to go into the engine room without ear defenders and certainly not whilst the engine is at full revs

30 mph & 2,200 Amps just before wheelslip sets in 23:50. Easy to criticise in my armchair I know but the driver failed to note that traction was lost every time he got up to about 1,200 Amps @ less than about 19 mph so he would have got better results not trying to get past that figure for say 30 seconds or so. Perhaps that’s easier said than done if there are distinct notches on the power controller. Of course you've got to push it to see if you're on better condition rail eventually. Note traction motor Ammeter is red lined @ 2,600 Amps.
