I didn't watch the video about the first Class of '09 game, so this was my first experience with this game series. It was interesting how at first I just kind of let what Nicole did slide because of all of her trauma, but as the game went on, I noticed more and more the depths of this girl's depravity, to the point where it was painful to watch, until the final line of the first playthrough, "this girl's going to be mentally fucked for the rest of her life over this, and I just feel good about it :)" It's an interesting commentary on how one generation of abuse leads to another generation of abuse. It reminds me of a poem by Phillip Larkin: "They fuck you up, your mum and dad. They may not mean to, but they do. They fill you with the faults they had, and add some extra, just for you. But they were fucked up in their turn by fools in old-style hats and coats, who half the time were soppy-stern, and half at one another’s throats. Man hands on misery to man. It deepens like a coastal shelf. Get out as early as you can, and don’t have any kids yourself." Just to be clear, I do think it's possible to break this cycle (like Zuko did if you've seen Avatar), it's just very hard. It certainly also helps to have someone good in your life the way Zuko had Iroh. But Nicole didn't have anyone.
