They are rated for 40hp - The Honda 40 is 214lbs, the Honda 50 is.......214lbs.

@@brrepublic8174 2 stroke 40hp at the time so around 190 lbs. ditto for the 50 OMC (and 60 2 cyl 1980-1985) so not much heavier

As my 1958 whaler hull has the low stern, I went for a short shaft 60 hp Tohatsu which only weighs 213 lb. From many manufacturers it appears that the 40, 50 and 60 are all basically the same engine with different settings. In any case the 60 pushes the boat a little over 50 km/h with a skier.

Put a jack plate higher pitch prop in there and you'll get even more. Love the First Gen Revenge / Outrage too.

40 horsepower is the rating on that boat according toe the certification.

Sweet. Did you also replace your Teleflex steering system? If so, did you go with the 3 turn helm or the 4.2 turn? Thanks

Is that honda 50 a short or long shaft? I know that the 13' whalers need short shaft but I can't imagine that 50 is a short shaft.

1976 or so they went to a 20'' standard shaft transom. short shaft was the blue interior

i put a 45 HONDA ON MINE, i get 35 mph with a 11.75 x11 pitch ss prop, what prop are you using?

It’s a place in which the anchor is stored. In this case, it’s on the bow of the boat

Hello, can you tell me what is the maximum power accepted by this boston 13? and is the weight of the engine not too heavy? does the self-bailer work? thank you so much

Hi Vincent, thanks for your question! It all depends on what is done to reinforce the transom on the end of the boat. If there is adequate reinforcement, along with a high, yet reasonable, weight of an outboard engine, you should be alright. Obviously, you don’t want to stick a 70 hp engine on it, but small horsepower variations over the 40 hp mark aren’t unreasonable or unheard of. In the case of this example, the engine ran great on this hull, and it felt quite good overall. And yes, the self bailing still did work!

@@WhalerNation thanks a lot for your answer, I have a J13 (similar to the boston 13 in France), and I'm thinking about putting a suzuki 50, honda 50 or Yamaha, it seems to me that the suzuki are the lightest.. 100 kg but I haven't decided yet.. the security would like me to ride a 40hp.. if you have any advice, I'll take it! thank you !!!

The latest BF 50 3 cylinder is identical dimensions and eight to the BF 40. Why not go for larger power?

Motor needed to be trimmed out a lot more from the vid shots provided and prob raised a hole or two plus a steeper prop then. More speed in that setup. Phone GPS would be good to see. USCG won't want to see that 50 on there......
