A family friend bought a Chevelle off a guy that bought it through Mecum's a couple years ago, he paid nearly 60,000 for it, he had shipped and upon getting it home home and putting it on a lift and inspecting it, it was obviously a poorly done quickie resto to re-sell/flip at Auctions such as Mecums, it had a lot of rust repairs that were poorly done, it was falsely represented as a rust free/straight untouched body. You gotta be careful of what you buy, a lot of shitty people out there out to make a quick buck

In the car business, there's a saying. "You've got a firm grip on that car." Seems like more than a few people figured out that the market doesn't care how much you have in a car or what you think it's worth.

Some fine examples and great video. Cost of restoration doesn’t always equate to value and most of these cars I guessed within 10% of high bid. It’s important to understand it’s not the value of the car. It’s a car an individual connects to and comps that drive prices. In our current climate it’s not the car that’s worth more, it’s the dollar is worth less.

Rarity is what should be high dollar such as 4 built 1 of 2 existing. Not 50,000 built and half of these so called muscle car restorations are a rip off. I'm in my 70's and doing a copy of the first new from 1966 prior to visiting sunny southeast Asia. Every system has been refurbished, repaired or replaced, The car is essentially like new with a few minor modern upgrades. Investment around $16K. It will be a daily driver and also pull a vintage Scotty camper a few hundred miles every month. I look at these shiny cars and laugh at the prices. Can you imagine going to a cruise in or show and sitting on the fender eating your lunch off the hood or letting a 4 year old stand on the seat with a big old steering wheel to play with. I do that kind of thing all the time. My previous '48 at a cruise in a little old lady asked to sit in the car and got in the back seat. She got comfortable, closed her eyes and had a beautiful smile on her face. I wonder what she was remembering as a young lady just after WW2 in a car like that. That's what old cars are for.
@randallstewart122410 ай бұрын
Many of these cars were considered quite ordinary when new, not particularly popular. A new coat of paint doesn't change that, and I'm not sure just being old makes a car collectible. Additionally, there is the market to consider. There was a period in the US where someone made some money, more than they needed, and didn't want to spend on a yacht. So, they added an out-building or a six-car garage and bought up a bunch of cars they drooled over when they were 14, so they could brag and bore other old farts about them. Well, here's the update. Those guys died. The wife sold the house and garage and moved to Florida, putting these buckets up for sale. And she doesn't ever intend to see or deal with them again. The funniest comment here so far is the one that says you don't understand how much money guys will spend into the restoration, or worse, the modification and distortion, of these cars, so they have to be worth more than shown based on the money poured into them. No, that doesn't make them more valuable, it just defines someone's pet money-pit.
