I love me an internal combustion engine, but boy oh boy when age starts to roll up the bill on those it's the most tiring thing. Fix 1 thing in it, find another 2 issues. And possibly ruin something else too! Ev conversion makes a heck of a lot of sense nearing the end of a car's/engine life.

I would rather pull a rearend subframe from a Tesla to get rid of all that unnecessary weight and drivetrain loss. But I see how easy it is to make that combo work. Not much too it and it has plenty of room to get to it.

I agree, there are pros and cons to both approaches. Have you seen my video kzbin.info/www/bejne/sKLbnn93g96kqqssi=kG4v0sgmDazFlHB2 with the similar Chevy truck? Check out what Casey did on his.

How about cooling and the range?
@convertingev4 ай бұрын
The hyper 9 is air cooled since it's an IPMSynRM it runs with less heat. The controller and batteries are liquid cooled with small radiator. I think this one has 7 Tesla model S battery modules and gets probably about 120 miles range.

So what about power steering?
@convertingev10 ай бұрын
I'll have videos out on that soon. Everyone's favorite is a Toyota Prius electric power steering column or something similar. There are also electric hydraulic pumps made by Volvo and others. I use the Prius.
@anything.with.motors8 ай бұрын
Electric steering is actually better anyways. My mom has a 2013 car (its gas still) With electric steering. Its better. Powersteering pumps absorb hp from the engine using extra gas. Where as electric steering only uses energy when you turn(ramping the alternator up abit witch is already also absorbing power from the engine) Thus its better less hp lost to pumps and belt pullys
@wolfrig20007 ай бұрын
I had electric steering in my Silverado, I never had a problem with it, but there was a recall where people lost steering at highway speeds.
@DrewLSsix6 ай бұрын
Better is relative, in a truck it may not matter but electric steering tends to have poor feedback. If it were going with a sporty build id stick with manual or hydraulic/electric. @anything.with.motors

That hyper 9 motor has as much horsepower as a stock 350 and all the torque from 1 rpm up. The future of muscle is electric. If you wouldn't object to a modern gas engine, you shouldn't object to electric.

To be fair, I’m not sure on the background on the project, but it could have been a junker vehicle with a bad engine that they decided to bring new life, and instead of a gas powerhouse it’s electric. As much as I like seeing original engines in their own vintage cars, actually having the car driving around instead of rotting it better.
