Classic Game Room HD reviews the original KILLZONE for PS2. Killzone was released for the Playstation 2 in 2004. Man I must be the weirdest dude on the planet because I actually enjoy these older graphics more than on my Xbox One. don't get me wrong the Xbox One is great, but I like the PS2 and PS1 graphics way better than this newer everything has to be super realistic crap. I want my games to look like a game not real life. That's why I play on the Wii, PS1, GameCube, SNES, Genesis, and NES more than my Xbox One. I like my Xbox One but not as much as the other older systems.

fireheartis1 trust me. Alot of people feel the same way. I might be only 17. but I hate the people my own age when it comes to gaming. they always have to say "call of duty this" or "call of duty that". It gets so annoying after a while. that's why I turned to retro gaming. I know that there is a whole ocean of games that I could play. I don't care about the graphics, sound, or frame rate (well, maybe a little on the frame rate). as long as the game makes me satisfied. then I don't care about anything else.

I grew up with the N64 so games like Goldeneye 007 and Perfect Dark are usually my reference FPSs. That was back when games had to stand on their own two feet and not rely on their online multiplayer to save them. I think the campaigns in games now are just practice for multiplayer, it's rare when a storyline is actually interesting. I like multiplayer systems that allow for game AI enemies instead of forcing you to get online if you want opponents. Online play should be an option.

This is my favorite FPS game on PS2. But as he said, it is pretty tough for PS2 hardware so you should get the PS3 version. It looks better and runs smoothly.

I used to play the crap out of this one. I think I went through the campaign at least 6 or 7 times when it came out. It's sad that a lot of peoples entrance to the series has been Shadow Fall, which in my opinion isn't a Killzone, and isn't a good game.

I did like the game's Cold War-like premise and a few new mechanics here and there, but the gameplay and missions seemed generic I makes me sad to think that it could have been much more, but just ends up being used to show off the graphical capabilities of the PS4.

I've picked up Killzone 3 on sale and I wanted to begin with the first game. I had high expectasions from this game at first. After a short while the enemy voices and constantly screaming the same damn thing over and over and over again till' the end of the game.Very repetitive gameplay, this game had one of the worst sniper controls that I've ever seen. It is also very easy to get stuck or get killed on the final part of a level, forcing you to replay the same frustrating part over again. The checkpoints really sucked in this game also, I was constantly praying that I made it to the next checkpoint without dying. Anyway the whole experience consisted more of pain than joy even on the easy difficulty. 6.5/10. I hope that the second and the 3rd one is better than this one. Cheers :)

It was a great game but it was tedious because they just keep throwing wave after wave of the same Helghast grunts at you over and over again. I know they have more variety than just the standard grunt but thats the one use the most often. Also, you have to admit, the checkpoints sucked. Some of them were far to in-between each other.

The biggest problem is that there are only 2 enemy types: Regular soldiers and heavily armoured soldiers. That's it. It gets boring fast. Classic Game Room seems to like shooters a bit too much.

I can't tell you how many hours I have put into this game, because I still do not have a next gen system. But this is one of my favorite PS2 games, simply because it has a great story, and is futuristic, yet grounded. It is also very tactical, which is a plus. My only core gripe is that on most weapons you can not aim down the sight, which I always prefer to random crosshairs on the screen. But other than that, there is a lot of playability, since it has a long and depth-full campaign.

played it on emulator recently. cause im to lazy to buy it for console and set it up (and its free this way) game is actually rather well made for its time. as others have said it does have pretty badly aged controls in regards to the sniper rifle specifically. it has this type of aiming that re centers against the middle of the screen which makes for awkward precise aiming... who ever came up with this in the dev department is an idiot. otherwise. gameplay is solid (as reco. didn't play anyone else) just running in and fucking mowing people down is satisfying. especially when meleeing the enemies and hearing them panicking as 100 pounds worth of minigun is colliding with there face. story wise. the banter between characters is enjoyable though during gameplay the repeated "nice, effective, gross but effective, good job, ect" gets annoying but eh. what can you do. its pats on the back. over all story line is decent. without spoilers. you basically get cutscenes of the big bads shitting there pants when they realize the cant stop your team. its enjoyable to watch the weapons compared to today are really clunky but you can get used to them. rifles that spit 3 bullets in random arcs for example. its weird. but you can learn to use them better. just hosing will shoot bullets all around your targets. controlled fire is much more accurate. anyone reading these comments wanting to know wether this is worth playing in 2021 or 2022. if you've never played it and you can handle 50 fps and grainy game play (its old) hell even a few moments of freeze before correcting itself and going as normal on emulation. then yes. you can enjoy this game i'd say. its not got anything on other games of its time but even today it is enjoyable. probably a 7/10 by its days standards. and today. if you cant get past the age gap it be a 5 or 6 at best. I'm just glad i got to enjoy it uwu I'm probably going to have to buy a ps3 to enjoy the next 2 games though.

I just have 1 issue in this game, and technically with vastly major part of other games and PS2 Conversions, not support the multitap, so I need to connect 2 or more PlaySation 2 just for playing 3 tr more players which is sad, hopefully I can do that with this game, because is really excellent, its the HALO for PS2 obviously there is a lot more alternatives but still its sad to see not to many good games got their apropiate 4P-Multitap Support (unitl now, the most stupid one is Burnout Dominator...seriously? turns for players? c'mon EA) well at least I have a opportunity to play with more friends or family in one room My qualify could be 8/10, the other 2 is because the lack of better Multiplayer LOCAL (Online sucks, no wonder why everyone prefer that), but if I focus and make a serious point, 9/10

I liked the first Killzone, now of course it wasn't mind blowing, but it was a solid game. Killzone 2 of course is much better, in my opinion the BEST multiplayer available, i like it much more than MW2, but that's just me.

I liked Halo more at the time but these days I am able to play this more. I think because this game feels a bit more slower than games today and Halo is more like modern shooters and so your better off just playing later Halo games and other modern games like COD. Rouge Trooper is the third person equivalent to this and is great in a simlar way. Rouge Trooper is also getting a remaster so that will be interesting.

I recently got the Killzone Trilogy and I'm about halfway through Killzone right now. Not a bad game but there are some glaring faults that that I'm surprised that weren't mentioned in the review: 1) Stupid enemy AI. The Helghast troops just stand around and let you shoot them. 2) Wide open spaces where is nothing happening or nothing to be found. 3) One Helghast guy keeps yelling "Kill him!" and "Frag out!" every 10 seconds and you can never kill him. Unless all the Helghast speak with the voice and tone or these are the only things they can say.Looking forward to playing Killzone 2. The graphics look amazing.

Having had all the PlayStation systems I currently started collecting a lot of old games and this one I found at a thrift store. I fired it up and prepped myself for graphic withdraw as I'm on ps4 mostly. Well it was not so bad and given the rumble control still strong on my ps2 controller really helps. Use a good pair of headphones also helps. Playing on a 60 inch 1080 with rgb cord for best image. Well worth bringing out the old console.

Yeah I completely agree nowadays most games don't take the time to piece together a good storyline and some likable characters because they are so dam focused on making the multiplayer. And I feel that nowadays that is something the gaming industry has lost is making great campaigns don't get me wrong there are still some great campaigns today Red Dead, Halo, Assassin's Creed, etc etc. Anyways I'm glad I picked this up looks great.

@morik123 I buy most if not all of my PS2 games used. when Classic Game Room did a video review on red faction 1 on the PS2 he said in the video you can get it dirt cheap and I got it dirt cheap so that was cool. I have that game on the PC now b/c the PS2 version of RF is too limiting in the geomod. I just love being able to blow holes in walls. if you or anyone who sees this knows of any other good games for the PS2 that let you blow holes in walls like in RF1 please let me know. Thanks

There was one major problem I had with Killzone: the controls for aiming (the stick calibration) was terrible, and it was kind of difficult to shoot accurately. As much disdain as I have for having to rely on partial auto-aim, KZ needed it badly. Only one FPS (actually two) for me ever controlled well w/o auto-aim, which was the two Rainbow Six Vegas games on the 360. My other gripe about the game is the graphics slow down. It can get really bad.
