I purchased the Sega Genesis model 1 around when It first was released back in the early 90's. My kids were very young then, and they loved It. So a couple years ago I bought another one on ebay, and they came over to my place and they freaked out. They couldn't believe I got one. And my oldest daughter's little kids play It too. Brings back great memories....

***** I totally agree! For years I used a Model 1 Genesis with a Model 2 Sega CD and a 32X and I always hated how awkward it looked, but I loved it, so I couldn't complain too much. Now I'm a Genesis collector, and I've been searching for a while for a working Sega CD Model 1 that isn't too expensive. It seems like they're rather rare, and many weren't as reliable as the model 2 (as you see many many many more up for sale as "spare parts" or "untested! don't ask me why though even though I have all the cables!" etc lol. My Model 2 Genesis with it's Model 2 Sega CD works and looks great (though once you toss the 32X on, like James Rolfe famously said, it does "look like it's on life support" lol, which humorously is something I thought throughout my entire childhood but didn't know how to succinctly put into words the way he did), but I can't wait until I finally get a working Model 1 Sega CD to pair with my M1 Genesis. That pair simply looked classic imo. It even won't look bad with the 32X which is saying something...

The model 2 Sega CD's extender comes in handy if you don't want your model 1 Sega Genesis attached to the model 2 Sega CD to tilt and fall over. I would recommend the Sega Genesis CDX because it is a standalone Sega CD console. Add-ons for the Genesis cause a lot of clutter. There is also a Sega CD memory cartridge that saves your game data. The Sega CD memory cartridge can fit into your model 1 and model 2 Genesis consoles and it can also fit into your CDX. I have an idea: get a Sega power strip where the sockets are rotated and spaced out and plug in your model 1/model 2 Genesis, plug your Sega 32X add-on into either the model 1 or model 2 Genesis, plug in your CDX and last but not least, plug in your Sega Saturn and Sega Dreamcast and you're all set.
@emmettturner94525 жыл бұрын
Several comments here don’t seem to realize that this part was bundled with the top-loading Sega CD (Sega CD2?). It wasn’t a separate accessory. When they redesigned the Sega CD they had to make sure it properly fit both consoles or else it would be even harder for the add-on to find success (even smaller potential market). It replaced the original front-loading Sega CD and they weren’t simultaneously available for any longer than it took to sell out of old stock.

Well, I'll give the Sega CD credit, it actually does increase the 'blast processing' because it has its own Motorola 68000 CPU inside of it that is even faster than that of the Genesis (12.5 MHz) and it has 6 MEGA POWER of internal RAM! That's why the thing requires another power supply, whereas the PC engine CD for example doesn't... But this piece of plastic right there, it doesn't do jacks**t =w=
@Clara_Page9 жыл бұрын
they could of at least released it with a single power supply that powered both the MD and MCD
@Michirin98019 жыл бұрын
Clara Pagett Was that even possible? I mean, to make a single power supply with 2 cables to connect to both the Sega CD and Genesis? Because you know, at the time you needed a lot of power to keep 2 68000 CPUs running...
