nice, cage welding is a real test of mig welding ability and planning on making it easier and possible do full welds . arches went well, that tool looks simple way get even/controlled fold lip .... Very nice! Maybe a bit overkill on the material for the cage, but better be safe than sorry. Although it brings a few extra pounds with it, that will have an effect on the lap times, but still, looks good and most importantly, safe.
@anthonybennett12243 жыл бұрын
That's a lot of cage but you are looking at the minimum spec for a racing mini and will most likely still be under weight, have had a hand in 2 Libras this year and both have had to carry lead.
@oikkuoek3 жыл бұрын
@@anthonybennett1224 Even on the wall thickness/outer diameter? Those are some tough rules.. And the additional lead parcels is another thing I've never quite conformed into. How is it safe to put those inside the cage to get flung around in a roll-over? I get the weight limit as an equalizer, but with safety it has an opposite effect. Even on handling the effect is depended on the positioning, and can easily throw the car off balance. When the class is restricted to one make and model, the cage should bring the car to the weight on it's own. A few more floor bars, thicker floor panel, thicker skid plate, anchoring strut towers to the cage etc.. But adding some blobs of mass here and there seems a bit counterintuitive to me.
@Urchfab3 жыл бұрын
That's interesting Anthony, I was hoping to speak to someone about the cage specs and still making the minimum racing weight, I have seen that most cars run a lot of roll cage, I'm also fairly light at 70kgs. Are most cars running ballast then?

When welding up the holes did you just use a normal dolly or a bit of copper in between? Never dared try with just a dolly, quite like the overdub sequence, is it more productive?

I notice that sometimes when you are tack welding with the MIG you don't have the mask on. I presume that you shut your eyes when you make the arc, but for the benefit of beginners it might be helpful if you explain that to save them from arc damage.

Matt the cage looks tremendous but are you confident about passing MSA scrutineering? Having a manufacturers certificate or not seems to be a grey area, how do you approach that?
