Hi! Member of Team Forever here! Thanks for checking out our projects. Right now our focus is on forever, and that mode not available yet is a golf mode, based on the Sonic Golf game for java. Plus we are adding Amy as a playable character to the game (All of this has been revealed a while back on our youtube channel) About Hidden Palace, something I would like to clarify is that we don't intend to return it to how it was in 2013, but that doesn't mean it's not going to be readded in the future. About the competition mode... It's complicated. Hope all we've been working on will be out in the public sooner or later. We have put a lot of effort on these projects.

Sonic 3 AIR is still definitely the best way to play the game, but I miss all of Origins' extra animations. I really hope they add that in a future update, or some modder adds them themselves. Some mods like that do exist, but none of them have everything. Anyway, great video. I love this stuff and it deserves to be highlighted.

This aged very well. Actually there's mods for Sonic 3 AIR which adds Origins features, like the new Sonic/Super Sonic sprites, the smooth giant ring animation, the widescreen backgrounds, the new angel island intros, etc

Haven't tried Forever or Absolute yet but Air is great, it really is the ideal way to play Sonic 3, kinda like how the 2011 version of CD pretty much replaced the original.

About S1F and S2A, there’s actually really well-known mods for them. Those being the Expansion Pack (Forever) and the Community Pack (Absolute). They add a bunch of new features and doodads to the game, like falling animations, extra bonus challenges, more options, and other things.

Expansion Pack has since been delisted, though the creator said that he is still working on it. His attention is currently on other mods, however. Community Pack is still up and still works great.

I remember being really hyped for Sonic 2 HD several years ago and I was so bummed when they announced it was canceled. I do recommend Sonic Delta though since it's Sonic 1-3&knuckles all in one single genesis ROM. It even includes all the prototype Sonic 2 levels and game gear Sonic 1 levels

I think Absolute and Forever are great and everyone should check them out, however if you want better modding support, but still get some of the s2a and s1f features, try the REX mods for both decomps. They have better mod support, but lack features in s2a and s1f. However I still think both are great!

5:32 the only thing I didn't like at all from A.I.R, is that in the main game, we can't select to change the zone order, I mean that "FBZ" goes after "CNZ" and before "ICZ"

Open Surge would also be worth looking into. It's an open-source game using all new assets that replicates the mechanics of the original Sonic games. There's not much to play on its own (they only have two zones implemented so far) but it includes a level editor and will hopefully become another platform for Sonic-inspired "hacks" and homebrew in the future.

This is definitely much more cooler than I expected, I beat Sonic 2 on mobile but my friend deleted the game ruining my save file, with these new additions I'm definitely gonna try it on pc, and Sonic 1 and 3 & Knuckles too. Oh and ngl Sonic 2 Special Stages aren't that bad, you just have to sort of anticipate things and be on edge.

Along with Sonic CD Restored, this is the definitive way to play the classics, at least until enough mods are made for Sonic Origins. Once Origins is modded enough to have the positives that these fanmade remasters have, then Origins will be the best way, since it's all in one package, and can even get it on sale with Steam.

easily the best way to play all these games in my eyes, and with sonic cd theres another great project with sonic cd restored. you used to be able to combine it with the & knuckles mod but sadly these days the two projects have gone their seperate ways. either way both are still great and the best way to play cd for sure

This, Sonic 2 Absolute, Sonic CD Restored (& Knuckles) and Sonic 3 A.I.R. are way better than Origins. If you want things done right then do it yourself and it will all pay off and have more love, effort and care than the company's attempt that cost money.

But it's kind of funny is that the tails getting stuck glitch in Sonic 2 absolute it's kind of similar to a bug that crops up in the version of Sonic 2 included in Sonic Origins. Of course I haven't touched that thing since launch because the state the games are in is just kind of depressing to me so I don't really play it that often.

For those wondering about Sonic CD, the problem is there is no really polished and updated PC port. The best option is to decompile the game and then install the miracle mod. Also, don't install restored if you're an average player. Restored is made specifically for speedrunners so many changes will feel off to the average player. So for now just decompile the game for the best experience

Sonic CD also have a community overhaul, that's the Sonic CD Restored mod for the 2011 PC version of the game. However, keep in mind that as this is the first remaster created by Christian Whitehead and is over 10 years old, this version needs extra settings if you have a monitor capable of refresh rates above 60 Hz on your PC. Also, just like Sonic 3, there are no more standalone versions of the game for sale on Steam, limiting the ways to play this mod if you don't have the Sonic CD legitimately.

These compilations require the official versions of these games, so its possible that these projects do not necessarily violate any laws to get copyright claimed, but i dont know laws enough so dont take this as a legal advice

My one complaint for Sonic 3 A.I.R the mod folder is in your C: Drive. You can't change the mod folder's location. (Yes I do have 1 TB C: Drive and the mods are simple and small) I like to have the mods I've installed in the games I have, like how most Sonic Mod Loaders have that feature.

Emulate them with retroarch and emulation station. There are plenty of tutorials online on how to get that all setup.

Whether these fan projects are official or not is totally irrelevant. If Sega was releasing a classic collection, their job was to outdo S1F/S2A/S3AIR and make Origins the definitive way to play the classics - they failed miserably. They could've added Mighty and Ray, added Bridge/Jungle/Sky Base to Sonic 1, added the lost Sonic 2 zones and fully realised competition zones to Sonic 3. For Story mode they could've Mania-ized the all the games and made it one complete experience. They could've done so much to make it exciting for the fans who have played these games to death - but they decided they'd try and get away with doing the absolute minimum. To the makers of Forever/Absolute/AIR - I just want to say thank you. It's nice that some people give a shit.

I don't know if the official versions need to have fan mods as official content, but Sega should be releasing a version of its beloved games that is the best possible version it can be. Instead, we got heavily compromised ports of what was previously considered the best official version of the Sonic games.

Thing is S1&2 stuff shown here is based on Mobile Decompilations which were done by Mania Team. So odds are Mania team easily could've done given but the hand they were dealt wasn't good. Also fan projects never have a hard deadline...

@Otaking Mikohani The thing is Sega did screw them over, dude. They could have fix the game already or made a proper release but Sega rushed the release of the game, made them work only on the Sonic 3 port but mess the code of the engine and the ports of the first two games, because Sega, in their infinite wisdom, thought it was a good idea not to make the Sonic Mania team the lead developers of their ports on the game engine they made but as support for Team Sonic. The whole deal is so dumb, I can only presume its a cultural thing or some seniority bs.
