Thanks Chris. I love your videos. I am putting a 70 vert back together. I took it apart about 5 years ago and have forgotten so much. I simply watch your videos and I have saved myself lots of time and learned a lot too. I just ordered the seals for my vent window and they sent me this flat black thing. I was going to call and ask what to do with it. But your video showed me how. Luckily the 70 vert wing has two separate small frame pieces. Should be easier then the earlier sedans.

OMG, it's really hard to take this window off the frame. I simply gave up restoring this part on my VW. Nice tip Chris. Keep rocking. Take care.

I used an old tire tube and cut it to shape, press the glass into the frame, cut excess of rubber and the use that black seal to keep water out, it looks like factory installed. I have a 1971 Beetle, thanks.

I recently rebuilt one of my vent windows. What a pain! I didn't even remove the glass or have the frame rechromed. Was just replacing the seals, refitting the rivets was a nightmare. All to keep OG glass😂

Hello Chris, greetings from California. I followed your 3 part video on door seals it was a tremendous help. One problem I had is the top of the vent wing hits the vent separation bar on top. Are there any adjustments on the wing. It's a hard top 64 Beetle. Thanks for the door series it was a great tutorial to have.

There is a small adjustment at the top of the vent post where it screws into the door. The vent post has the two holes on the top, and they are slotted, so you can pull the post a bit at the top towards the rear of the car to widen the gap a bit. It's not much, but worth a shot.

What keeps the vent window from turning at highways speeds? The top rivet or bottom clamp? Mine turns at 45 mph

Hi Chris As always great advice with the Phenoseal vinyl adhesive, but after 8 days it was still soft. I used E6000 black adhesive higher viscosity and easier to clean up with WD40 and sticks great. This is just my experience. I think Phenoseal might have changed their formula??. Thanks again for the great videos.

My vent window glass was not installed correctly which meant my windows didn't close properly. As a really I've got rust in my doors and a broken window latch, I even found that the vent post wasn't even located in the pivot clamp!!... Hopefully gonna take care of it thanks to this vid! the only thing i was wondering about was how to press in the rivets?? I might just figure something out i guess with what tools I got laying around.

I have a '66 Beetle (see my blog vwblvd.com). You probably already realized that you can't buy after market vent window frames for your year car. Those of us with 66 Beetles have no choice but to restore what we have. Actually, those of us with '65-'67 Beetles. I bought all the rubber from Wolfsburg West. I then sent my vent window frames, along with the rubber, out to Koch's in California. They completely restored them and put them all back together. It cost $220 per side. Well worth it!

Black vinyl adhesive caulk is not as easy to find as you think. At least around here, nobody carries the black vinyl adhesive caulk. Both Home Depot and Lowe's carry Phenoseal, but only in white and clear.

well do you have any leads of where i can get new handles for the frames? some markings inside is gone and without them it wont function the way it should...

I have a vent window that is just too loose so that it will not stay in place against the wind. Is there anyway to tighten it?

Yes you need to take off the door panel and there are 10mm bolts that hold the vent window in place, they probably need to be tightened.
