Great video, my friend! 😊 I've been finding Judo throws from bottom side control a lot recently. I can't believe it's taken me this long.
@crazyjames12332 ай бұрын
I think part of the reason judo throws are becoming more common in nogi is they tend to have less risk than shooting in. Shooting in a double or single leg takedown can risk guillotine or darce or other front choke. An uchi mata or foot sweep, most of the time worst case scenario is it doesnt work and you end up in bottom, which many people prefer anyway.
@mckendrick76722 ай бұрын
It's almost as if that's why Judo emphasized throwing with control and force to begin with... Who would have thought?
@secretarchivesofthevatican2 ай бұрын
As an older (and therefore slower ) BJJ grappler, shooting in is not a good approach for me but judo take downs and throws are good. It is noticeable in old people's BJJ Masters' tournaments that there is often standing techniques and judo rather than wrestling type throws, probably because of slower speed and old person knees!
@thecollector67462 ай бұрын
No...that's not the reason at all. Judo is becoming more popular in no-gi because No-Gi figured out that it is far more effective to toss the person clinching with you instead of clumsily trying to drag them down to grapple....especially if that person has decent balance. Also...dropping down to your but in No-Gi is and always has been a losing game. Notice how they don't really bother with closed guard anymore except for when they need to stall for time.
@kimurasquirrel2 ай бұрын
Its not the reason, the reason uchimata is getting more popular is that its a common throwing counter/position you will be placed in from more popular takedowns such as singles and doubles. If you see singles and doubles you're likely to get into the T clinch position which funny enough is actually a position that Judokas prefer. You can say its simply a defensive counter to the offensive attacks of doubles and singles that isn't simply sprawling.
@DMurdock2 ай бұрын
They're not trying to avoid submissions. They're trying to avoid the guard. The guard has become the most dangerous it has ever been because of recent innovations in leg entanglements. Clinching is a great way to keep someone away from your legs. The body lock pass (which Ffion uses a lot) is another development that keeps your legs safe, and consequently, throws that put you in the body lock have become quite popular.

In judo there are so many ways to get shido/hansoku make etc. I love judo, but by now it’s a highly niche style of grappling.

Judo and jiu-jitsu are like two long-lost cousins, each with their own story and style, finally reuniting after years apart. Judo took the path of discipline, focusing on throws and clean techniques, showcasing the beauty of precision. Jiu-jitsu, on the other hand, embraced the art of survival, mastering ground control and submission. But when these two come together, they bring out the best in each other-a harmonious blend of standing and ground game, a perfect balance of finesse and strength. It's a reunion that reminds us that, no matter the distance or the differences, family is always stronger together.

Every single ground technique you showed exists in BJJ; Judo, after all, originated from Jiu-Jitsu. Additionally, Carlos and Helio Gracie earned black belts in Judo before focusing on ne-waza techniques and developing BJJ. There’s no doubt that Judokas have the edge in nage-waza (throwing techniques), which are much more polished and developed in Judo. I wouldnt say judo is shining, we barely see it, we see more of a wrestling style wizzar to counter single legs and some uchimata. Still 95% of takedowns in nogi are wrestling takedowns.

I don't understand western obsession with ground fighting in Judo, throwing is more devastating in my opinion, no need for ground fight, in context of self-defense of course. A successful throw will surely disable the opponent and it either require less energy or no energy at all. Ground fight is tiring, you have to force yourself to subdue the opponent into submission, it takes a lot of time and energy. It also reduces your awareness of your surroundings. I don't think ancient samurais are busy with ground fighting on the battlefield because it is a danger to themselves, they need to be quick to stand up and continue fighting. Perhaps, in my own prejudice, western people have this kind of ego, always want to subdue people into submission if you get what I mean...I don't think it is the spirit of the ones who create Judo....

Yes, it's because learn to fight on the ground are more easyer, and faster to learn, and work's also.

Ground fighting was also a defining part of catch wrestling, which split into freestyle, collegiate, luta livre, etc. It's about showing absolute domination

i'll give you a tip, they had WEAPONS:) Ground game is easier to learn and less devastating, hence more popular for avarage Joe as a modern 'aerobic'

There's no classical judo in modern grappling only wrestling with some techniques incorporated from judo and adapted to nogi

Okay but they both practice jiujitsu first and foremost. Judo is great.. but you guys are fish outta water without Jiu jiujitsu training. And I’m not being rude. A pure judo person vs jiujitsu. Judo loses. All things equal. No cross training of judo, or jiujitsu.

@mckendrick7672 While I agree with you, Chadi specifically makes that distinction quite often in oder to put down bjj. He's a certified bjj hater, probably because it's starting to be everything judo isn't.

@@mckendrick7672 And? That's called begging the question. What do you think rulesets imply? Given enough time, rulesets will foster new strategies and innovate techniques. A judoka isn't gonna know the latest leglock entries, guard sweeps or guard passing while a BJJer isn't gonna know most of Judo's throw set and the latest grip fighting moves. The argument that theyre just different based on rulesets and but implying or straight claiming theyre the same is a massive cope and intellectual dishonesty
