I felt that yunyi and kevin actually successfully interpreted the song as it was meant to be. The fact that the song didn't go anywhere and how the chords were so fixed that it felt like it was landlocked, I think directly translates to what jarod said about depression/anxiety is like a tunnel, endless and closed off. The lack of a thumping percussion section I believe was to express how depression/anxiety feels not grounded, like it is set apart from reality. I think the music itself speaks for anxiety/depression... But just my interpretation... Passing byyyyyyy

also in my opinion I think the overly pop-py sound was probably because they were given the music that would do well on the charts more than a slow song, and had to put the lyrics over it, but rather than making it a love song they made it have a message like this. respect
@sophiek1347 жыл бұрын
MidnightEkaki I'm not 100% sure. But I believe B.A.P might have a say in the type of music they use. But I still agree with your point that rather than doing the typical love song, they made something meaningful out of it. 😊

I was at their concert in Germany and the crowd ended up singing this song for them at the end when they were about to say their goodbyes. All of them stopped for a moment and just listened, they looked so happy and surprised. Especially Yongguk was smiling so bright, you could see how much it meant to them (and especially him). It was such a powerful experience. Also I just wanna say thank you for your amazing and insightful reactions. I love that you guys are always honest with your opinions and it's interesting to hear negative points about the music as well. You guys are honestly the reaction channel I'm willing to watch!

You can tell by their reactions as to whom has gone through anxiety or has close people that has gone through anxiety in their lives.
@CottidaeSEA7 жыл бұрын
Not necessarily. I have, yet you wouldn't notice it. I am not a very sympathetic person, so unless something completely overpowers me, I'll be completely neutral at all times. Because of this, I have a different view on things. I can imagine any of them having gone through something like this, yet nobody. Sympathy is a completely different thing than experience. That said, most people aren't like me, so you're probably correct.

I loved the criticism they gave, even the negative ones. The lyrics writen by Zelo and Yongguk, actually, but neither of them took part in composing the melody nor the arrangement, so maybe that's why some people felt that kind of disconection. Anyways, thank you for bringing B.A.P to your channel once again; our fandom really apreciates the support.

First time I watched this MV I cried. There are a lot of meaningful songs in many languages but this touched me more because, first, I love them so, yeah, it touches more, there's nowhere to run. Then there's the MVs, they usually are lighter, they show through light metaphors and etc, but here, the girl cooking literal trash and such, the man who was acting as a conductor but when the lights went off his hands turned into guns. The lyrics are perfect, I love them a lot, and there's the song, it isn't super sad, happy or dark. It's like a pop song but the vocals makes it sound heavier, more aggressive. And after watching this, I kinda feel like the "it doesn't change much" is because he never really wakes up, in reality, he was never sleeping, that nightmare from what he can't wake up is the real life and it just won't go away. And it worked so I'm fine. Also, thinking like this reminds me of a thought I often have about most of my friends, that I feel they are safer while sleeping, because they can't really be harmful to themselves if they ain't awake, but when they are awake they just wish to wake up from this reality. I feel weirdly pleased with Jarod, Henry and Lindsey comments, probably because is what I wanted to hear kkkkkkk.

The first time I heard this song, I actually cried. I struggle with my share of mental illness and a lot of people I care about do as well. Especially in a lot of East Asian cultures, people are always very eager to push issues under the rug. Even just looking at k-pop, consider how difficult it is to find songs that aren't about love or break-ups or some variation of that. That's why a song like this is so refreshing, because it's so rare to have this subject matter, which is an invisible and daily struggle for many of us, brought to attention. It's the same reason I get happy every time I see LGBT+ representation in k-pop, because it's liberating and addressing something that most people in the industry would rather ignore. Just my two cents :)

I feel like the music is opposite of what lyrics are saying because that's how world works. People are showing us only the bright side (music) but neglecting all the problems that are here right now. All the things that we are struggling with are just invincible when you have this type of backround so they are saying WAKE UP AND THINK. Their voice, our voice need to be stronger and louder than voice of propaganda. But that's my interpretation if you feel different please leave comment. P.S my english is not good sorry :)

추소서 (Pray) is, I think, a much more intense and personal version of Wake Me Up. Since it's Yongguk and Zelo, both of whom have been actively suicidal, it's very raw. They speak from their experiences in such a way that it transcends the language barrier, much like Agust D's The Last. Also, the use of Gregorian chant is (I think) better than MAMA. I get why there isn't a music video to it, but man I wish there were. I'd love to see it reacted too, especially in conversation with Wake Me Up.

This song is not only talking about mental health but the song lyrics also depict "how much corrupted political leaders and their followers can pollute the society. THIS SONG WAS WRITTEN & RELEASED during the time when millions of S.Koreans were peacefully demonstrating to impeach the former S.Korean president. Yongguk's rap part -------------->>>>> "This murky and cold air of gray cities contaminates people's rotten brain & spine" I was very disappointed & upset how 1theK subbers translated this song's lyrics... the translation didn't capture the depth and profound meaning of the original Korean lyrics and they didn't even interpret an important phrase (maybe they didn't understand or had a hard time translating since the lyrics are philosophical. ) B.A.P is fierce and brave. They sing about the subjects other singers/rappers try to avoid "MENTAL HEALTH & CORRUPTION in the SOCIETY" Since their debut they were different than any other Kpop idol groups. THAT'S WHY B.A.P's global fans call them "KINGS" B.A.P is UNIQUE & FIERCE... SUCH A SPECIAL GROUP!!!

3:10 kevin: "its a little too bright poppy for a song so heavy" from my prospective having anxiety correlates perfectly to this song...its something with too much energy to actually fit your emotions. the chord progression makes it seem like it'll have a build up but it never drops, its just a very fixed melody like yunyi said.... similar to anxiety, it sometimes seems like you're finally going to escape these emotions but it never happens...an endless cycle

When I compare Wake Me Up to 4:44 am... Wake Me Up is still about anxiety and depression, which you live with every day, but there's a small sense of hope in it - a will to survive may be a better way of putting. 4:44 am is such a total handing over oneself to despair, it's really scary, and I'm glad Yongguk took off to get treatment. (or even compared to Zelo's [who co-wrote WMU] No-Title which is just straight anger). Nice reaction vid

The mv of Wake Me Up jas a lot of messages inside, each person representing a mental disorder but also the moment where we see drawings of heads where shit is put instead of the brain represents all the things the medias are saying and that we believe in. Also, lots of refferences to the movie V for Vendetta in the video : the sun rising, the day : friday 5th November and even more For the lyrics, I would say it's a song that gave motivation to those who are maybe suffering or currently lost in this insane world. But also a way to say to us "be aware that this society is unhealthy" Thank you for teacting to this, I was waiting since yourself reacted to it and I'm no disappointed ❤ Love you and still waiting for other wonderful and rational reactions !

for the people wondering why the song seems too "bright" for the lyrics it's because this song talks about taking control of their own emotions and "wake up". It also brings a critic to society especially in korea when mental disorders are rarely treated (but not only in south korea in my opinion) and other themes like that which should be important to discuss. This song told the people to do a REVOLUTION (an emotional revolution) you don't need to hide your feelings just because you're afraid of what people will tell you, it's OKAY to be ill, it's OKAY to be depressed, it' OKAY to suffer anxiety disorders, it's OKAY to be muslim (i interpreted in that way i think), it's OKAY to not be perfect (which also is a very huge problem is korea). They don't really talk much about these themes in kpop, and that's not surprising at all because very often the idols are diagnosed with mental disorders and people usually associate them with pregnant scandals or stuff like that. It's absolutely disgusting.. BAP came and told us again to fight for OUR rights as HUMAN BEINGS and i think this is the most powerful message i've ever seen in a kpop song. So sad Korea sleeps on them.. but it's not even surprising.

I've been looking forward to this song! I get chills every time I listen to it or watch the MV. It's such a powerful message and also the diversity in the cast they used was great. I have anxiety and depression myself and as a Baby the time of Yongguks hiatus was quite tough. For B.A.P and us. B.A.P have always tried to give good messages in their songs, of course they're also known for their badass concepts that they pull off brilliantly and have aced pretty much every genre, but they have to mix it up. But they always try to show a meaningful message in all of their work and they're really creative with it to. IM DED MY FEELS" Yes those are good every once in a while but there's only so much content you can milk from that before it gets boring or, worst case scenario, annoying. At least in these videos it's entertaining as well as educating in a way. Having more than two people discuss the music also keeps conversation and makes the video more engaging as compared to one person (unless that person has got a really engaging personality and can suffice on their own). Anyway long comment over, BAP rocks I love them. Liked this video ❤️💖 I need moar.

A lot of you guys said about how the music started out strong and just kinda stayed at that same level of intensity, and it was kinda weird how it didn't increase or settle at all. If you're going with what the song is about, it does make sense to me. I don't know if this was his intent, but I think it's at that level of intensity where it makes you anxious when it doesn't peak or calm down. I suffer from anxiety as well, and when you think of the song's meaning, I feel like that tension you feel from that intensity matches the feeling of anxiety. It makes you feel anxious, like "Why isn't there more? Why isn't it calming down?" It's like that tension that makes you almost feel uncomfortable, and to me that feels pretty similar to when I'm experiencing anxiety. I'm not saying the song makes me feel anxious, I adore this song and it's definitely a jam for me. But that's just my interpretation from what you guys were talking about :)

Bap is my ultimate group and im happy about this The song is heavily lyric based so thats why the said it sounded the same the whole time, that the lyrics was the one conveying the message. i kid you not this song would have been very popular if people didnt care about how up beat the song was or that its a popularity contest. To me personally songs that deal with important issues like this are great. Even if you dont or dont have anyone you know suffer from it, those who do suffer alot. And to have a song about this is great.

As someone who has suffered from depression, I have been waiting for this reaction. This song is such a great song just because of the message.

YASSSS finallyyyyy! I've been waiting months for this reaction! BAP is such a great talented group. Yongguk writes the lyrics to almost all the songs in their albums, JongUp&Zelo do the choreographies, Daehyun, Himchan & Youngjae always produce the songs as well 😭😭 and you sleep on them too much 💚

Bang Yongguk (the leader of B.A.P) actually released a song called AM 4:44 back in 2015. I think if you're looking for something that isn't as energetic as this but not quite a ballad either, this is a perfect song. Be warned though, it's a dark, deep song and you're definitely going to feel things. I'd like to see the reactions to it though, because where Wake Me Up is more like an upbeat anthem, this is a raw confession. And I also think it deserves more attention, as not many artists in general are willing to bear their souls like that alone with such honesty, while also calling out the people that have hurt them (@TSENT >_>)

Bang Yongguk has been suffering from depression for quite sometime now.. And (you babys probably know) that Bang Yongguk wrote a song called 4:44, which was released (If i'm not wrong) during their hiatus that was due to the lawsuit. I guess as it was written and composed by Bang Yongguk himself, you could feel more depth which I guess, Wake me up quite lacked in it's melodies. In terms of depth, if you read 4:44's lyrics (or translations of the lyrics), you could probably sense more of Bang Yongguk's struggles with his mental health and all the shits that he had to go through (+an insight to how dirty the entertainment business really is). But don't get me wrong, Wake me up is amazing on it's own, and B.A.P has touched on so many diverse topics that other Kpop groups haven't. But maybe we need to start understanding that B.A.P's music has its own market, and a very niche market at that. And that's not actually a bad thing. Anyways, thank you for making this video and helping to spread awareness on mental health (and awareness about B.A.P too ofcourse).❤

You should do AM 4:44 by Bang Yongguk, it really touches on all that he and BAP have struggled with.
