The only correct analysis, the best I saw, about Angelina, the technicality in her, despite how good she is, is secondary, she interprets in a superlative way the emotional deliberation present in the songs. As you say, her maturity, her emotional clarity are surprising. And she sings to tell us that life lived without fear is a party. She sings as a way of manifesting, sharing the experiences of her soul. When she sings, for a moment, she shows our face that child that we were and that was forgotten, when she hears her voice in another child, it reappears

I wish I had a camera on me the first time I heard this. I bet my jaw was on the table! I had been searching KZbin for singers who could cover Billie Holiday (my favorite singer of the last 30 years). The first time I looked through the search results I skipped over Angelina. Thinking how could a 7 year old begin to sound like Billie Holiday? After listen to a lot of covers that didn't come close, I went back and decided to give Angelina a try and haven't stopped listening to her since. That was 9 months ago.
@jerrylarocque96004 жыл бұрын
My initial intro to Angelina was much different than yours. Some 3 years ago i searched " got talent winners" and Angelina's Gloomy Sunday et al from Norway's Got Talent was one of the search results. I watched and was blown away. Had i searched using your criteria, i'm sure i would have bypassed her performance as well. After all, what's a little kid doing singing this song. I can't help but think of the aphorisms "don't judge a book by it's cover" and "looks can be deceiving".

Going through the reactions from the judges, I am so impressed by what they all said. They nailed every comment. First, Omar is the first one ever to say that she is like an old soul, living many lives. Lisa said that she "IS music", that is so true. Mia said here we have a star, and that Angelina is born to sing. Then Bjarte with how it is possible for a child to sing this way. They all said and captured exactly what others have repeated for many years. I really want to give the judges credit for that. It was so obvious for all of us who watched this live, what a special and historical moment this was. Angelina did so good here, my tears still feel this performance. Thank you, Josh, you are one of my favorites 👍

The lyrics, the phrasing, the emotion, the obvious mechanics, the interpretation, the connection, the inflections, the dynamics, the pain, the ability to tell the story ... And she is 7 years old. Billy Holiday fans were probably busting out in tears with raw emotion. It is commonly said that music soothes the soul. It does more than that. It completes many of us. It wakes us up and takes us on a journey. This was one of the darkest periods in Billie's life. She bared her soul through her music. This little kid has rebared her soul from the grave. How she is able to do it is something only she knows deep inside. Nobody learns how to do this. A gift from God.

I'm sure that the song needed to be cut down to fit the time limits of the show, and I think it was a good choice to take out that second verse ;) As with many people, I was blown away when I first heard this. But I don't think I appreciated it fully until I was putting together a video that combined Angelina's performance with the original from Billie Holiday. When you hear them together it is incredible how much Angelina (at 7) was able to capture the sounds of Billie's voice.... while still making it her own in some ways. As far as the copyrights... most of the people watching Angelina reactions are familiar with the issues reaction channels run into, and are supportive of the things you need to do to avoid problems.

Every time I hear Angelina sing, I picture her stepping out of an old black & white movie, to transport us back in time, so we can fall in love with these genuine masterpieces again ❤️ 💚 💙 💜 Great reaction!!! A little backstory, for some of your subscribers who may not know......Angelina's Grandmother loved Blues & Jazz music, & they used to listen to it all the time, & Angelina felt an immediate connection, so her younger style tipped the scale closer to Jazz, and as she ages, she has developed many other styles of music, including her own,& now can sing almost anything!!! She also sews most of her outfits, does all her own musical arrangements, & goes barefoot, because she met a young girl when performing one day, who had no shoes & could not afford to buy any, so Angelina gave her the shoes she had on, & in memory of the girl, & poverty issues, she continues to goes barefoot! What can I say, except this young girl, is an inspiration, an amazing talent, has a huge compassionate heart, & the world is a much nicer place to be, with her in it !!! Really enjoyed your reaction!

"She could sing at one and a half" but that comes from her household. Music. Her grandmother bringing these old jazz albums in, listening to Gershwin over and over. Angelina doesn't just have a good voice - she's got great ears and obviously has learned to vocalize those tones and beyond. I am still split about the "old soul" issue... I think she's got this fabulous ear and is such a great student of music. Thanks again to her grandmother and her household for supporting and encouraging this.

When you get to her last song of NGT “Summertime “ you should watch “Angelina Jordan Summertime Rehearsal 2014”. She is instructing the trumpet player as to how she wants it to be played. Angelina’s award winning performance of “Summer Time” is literally breath taking and astonishing. I have watched that performance several times and yet I still find it difficult to wrap my mind around how a seven year old child can put forth a performance that is on par with the original singer’s. There exists a video produced by a reactor that directly compares Angelina’s performance to the original artist’s and it is unbelievable to hear how seven year old Angelina’s rendition is equal of the original artist’s.

Her mom wanted her to sing twinkle twinkle little star... She just said NO. 😅 She must have been hearing jazz music even when she's still inside her mother's womb. She may not fully understand the song word for word but definitely she understand what the song is all about. And it's just unreal for her age to deliver such required emotions for such a deep and dark song like Gloomy Sunday. It's just not possible. She's something else.
@davidtouma48784 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your reaction and analysis. You are correct when you say Angelina at that young age didn’t understand the deep meanings of the lyrics. She understood that it was about a “sad Sunday” and pours her emotions in it that we all in the words of one of the judges felt that sad Sunday. Later on Angelina realized that this was labeled as the “suicide song” by many people and has refused to sing it again even when requested by many to do that at live performances.

Thanks for the wonderful and sweet reaction, SingerDad, the first public show with Gloomy Sunday was an event of amazement for anyone who experienced it at the time, the emotion that is felt for her first performances, in which she wonderfully connects the her voice and her talent for that aspect of her little bird that plays, is very large and intense and leaves you permanently marked. To think that at 7 years of age she was perfectly able to read, analyze and connect, in a foreign language, without any doubt or fear, with the public and the judges of talent seems impossible. She convinced her mother to join her because she was sure of herself ... at seven years old! In the days following the evening, his online video recorded over 5 million views in a country, Norway, which has as many inhabitants ... 😁😁 I too remember your first reaction with her that I had loved much. In fact, however, in the following years Angelina no longer sang this song. The first judge, at the end of this song, said what remains for me the simplest and most suitable description of Angelina, said: "you are the music", there is nothing more true. ❤️

Really like your reaction/review of this performance. Perhaps Angelina's mom or grandmother have explained to her about the suicidal context of the song, but she didn't want to bring that up. For sure Bjarte knows it and I respect him a lot for not pushing that question any further. "It's about a sad Sunday" - that's all we have to know really. And as both you and Bjarte said, Angelina made us feel that sadness, but in a warm and cozy way. Regarding your "Bohemian Rhapsody" review: I think if you edit out the backstage and pre-performance interview onstage and the judges review sections you'll be ok without having it blocked. Showing just the song wont cause a blocking from Freemantle (but you might still get caught by KZbin's content-ID thingy saying that all money will go to copyright owners).

First of all, yes, that is Angelina's mother watching in front of the monitor behind the curtains. As you saw in the first video with Angelina at 6 years old and understood that she did have an awareness of what she wanted to do and how to do it, and I know you understand that in 1 years difference she had a phenomenal growth in her musicality and the choices that she had made at seven years old at the Norway's Got Talent contest, one might deduce that she is a musical genius or a Mozart in our times.😊

Have you noticed? there is one more star in the sky since Angelina Jordan sang. It is almost impossible to react to Angélina Jordan because she is exceptional. She was born with all the talents of an artist apart. At 13, she is a unique artist in the world with an extraordinary voice, captivating and so beautiful that transmits so many emotions and I also believe the greatest of all, human love. And most incredible of all is her personality which is as exceptional as her voice, sweet, spiritual, generous, loving, joyful, modest, simple. This young woman is a rare diamond, a gift to be watched and listened to without moderation, like the beauty of a mountain lake. Everyone is conquered and bewitched by it and repeats the same thing. There is a longer version of this with more pre- and -post-song stuff kzbin.info/www/bejne/mmTKhJulbt6Zbpo (and in-video English subtitles, rather than separate captions available through the "CC" feature, which, as you could see, got out of sync in this video). It provides additional context for the judges' comments, especially the one about her being "a star". (In the little pre-song interview, Angelina says she wants to be a "superstar" when she grows up.) It also contains one of the very few appearances of her father (the dark-haired man usually seen with her is her uncle/manager - he's not seen in this video, though). Her father is the light-haired man seen in the background 27 seconds in, holding Angelina's baby sister (Juliette) as she leans down to hug Angelina. He is seen again at 6 minutes and 27 seconds, still holding Juliette, as this time _he_ leans down to kiss Angelina's forehead. And he's seen in the following shot where the woman is talking to Angelina's mother (Sara) in the foreground (who, yes, was the woman crying backstage during the performance). The older woman seen leaving with Angelina and her mother at the end of the video (and at several other times) is Angelina's grandmother, Mery, who seemingly has recorded every minute of her granddaughter's life. (In fact, in the first shot of Angelina's father, Mery is seen in the foreground recording the scene.) Anyway… the next video you will be doing, assuming you're following Rusty Shackleford's playlist, is the only version worth reacting to, but there are longer versions of her other two NGT appearances that include judges' comments with English captions, if you'd prefer to react to those. (I posted this info under your reaction to "I, Who Have Nothing", but I guess I did it too late for you to notice.) Here's the relevant info again (the first link in each item is the one in Rusty's playlist): * kzbin.info/www/bejne/gonOn3-QedSFjLM "I'm a Fool to Want You" [Billie Holiday] sung a cappella in 2nd round - no post-song judges' comments in this round, and the only pre-song stuff is just her saying what she's going to sing, so subtitles/captions are not necessary (note that this particular video is [almost] the only one on YT that has the complete performance: all other popular uploads of it use an edited version that omits the entire bridge of the song) * kzbin.info/www/bejne/fnTEdayfpthqjck "Bang Bang (My Baby Shot Me Down)" [Nancy Sinatra] live in the semifinals - longer version with English captions ("CC") available: kzbin.info/www/bejne/ppSloHVqbqyrpJo (includes post-song judges' comments - unfortunately, the video is in the wrong aspect ratio, so you should still react to the other video for the song itself) * kzbin.info/www/bejne/pKSll3WrmJ6Xb6s "Summertime" [Ella Fitzgerald & Louis Armstrong] live in the finals - longer version with English captions available: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mJ_Td6Z5g7CtfMk (includes pre-song mini-interview and post-song judges' comments)

So sorry about the blocked video, I did get to see it, thankfully. It has to be AGT copyrighting their words, they are so greedy. I don't think Queen did it or Angelina. This was a wonderful reaction, I love Angelina and your reaction I am watching most all of them.

Good reaction again. Thanks Josh. It could take you quite a while to work through her currently 80+ react-worthy performances if you do one a week :-) Yes, that is mum, her Shield. It might not be accurate to say Angelina 'understands' the meanings and emotions. She is absorbed in them and feels them and amplifies them for us, but I don't think until somewhat later that she understood them intellectually. When you get further up your list to where her intellectual understanding does develop, notice how she sings the meaning of words instead of just the words, by modifying her vocals to sound like the word or phrase. I am sure she is doing it intentionally now, but who knows at 7. Probably not then.

The song,originally Hungarian, was banned in many countries after its release (late 20's, I think) because many suicides were linked to it. Even in the UK the song remained banned till the beginning of this century. Billie Holiday's version was popular in the USA. Angelina's is based on the latter. Awe-inspiring rendition when she was seven years old (officially)

That is her mom. When asked why she cried she replied ‘that moment I realized I lost her to the world’ ( I read that in a comment somewhere).

👩🏻🎤🎵🌎⭐️🇳🇴❤️ I'm sorry to hear that your Bohemian Rhapsody reaction video was blocked. I hope there is a way you can edit it to allow it back on the channel. This was Angelina's first time on stage in the public spotlight. I was not that familiar with the original version by Billie Holiday when I first saw this, so I went back and listened to the original version and doing so really helped me to fully appreciate this incredible performance by a 7-year-old Angelina. Yes, that is Angelina's mom, Sara Astar, at 11:56. Angelina's full name is Angelina Jordan Astar. So, thanks for another thoughtful reaction to Angelina, and I hope it's not another week before the next one. I was starting to go into Angelina withdrawal.

Very good reaction, thank you.👍 If you aren't aware, you can check copyright on the video you intend to post before posting it to avoid be blocked!😉 This can be done with your YT studio, just search for "how to look on youtube about copyright status" to get instructions about it and you'll see if there will be a potential copyright problem; that said, it's not a solution, since copyright is a complex matter and depends on source location (where and who created it), posted location (USA in your case) and viewer(s) location. E.g.: Freemantel posts (AGT) from your country cannot be viewed in any Scandinavian country but they can in e.g. Belgium, where I live.🤔 The best way to avoid copyright problems is to ask the owner the right to use his material and mention it in your posts. 😉 Another example is the famous "All By Myself" that Eric Carmen based on 2nd Piano Concerto of Rachmaninov. Dispite elapsed time, the concerto wasn't fall into the public domain outside USA obliging Eric Carmen to pay copyright fees to Rachmaninov heirs! You can imagine the sums that did not amount to few cents.😳 Copyright problems, could be bypassed by those that are blocked by using a VPN with feature NAT (Network Address Translation - intended as shift and not as convert) to let consider they are looking at the video from another place that the one they are in. Several software are available to do this and if they use opera browser, the VPN is embedded in it. Coming to the video, Yes, it's her mom Sara and about the song itself, Gloomy Sunday, is a jazz song written by an Hungarian artist in 1933 as tribute to all cherished people. It became famous because it was forbidden in all Budapest clubs supposing to push customers to suicide, what composer did in '68; it became a standard during US big depression in '33; Billie Holiday's version was also forbidden @BBC in '41: so it can be called a sad Sunday, indeed. 🤔 One more thing, Gloomy Sunday is not the first performance for NGT, since is the one to go to semi-final; there is another performance to be qualified to enter NGT which is - A cappella Billie Holiday "I'm Fool To Want You", just incredible (no subtitles) kzbin.info/www/bejne/bH2slISCasx_pbs
