This process should be very similar for most classic motorcycle master cylinders and identical pretty much every 70's Honda.

Very well done, and congrats to you for selling the barn to brat project (my favorite by far to this point) and congrats to the new owner of this awesome build!

YOU'RE the guy! You're the one who showed the syringe method of putting new brake fluid in! I knew I had seen that, but couldn't remember who it was. THanks for this!

Really fought with the snap ring. Really wondered how other guys got it out. I used a dart but wasn’t easy. Great video. Thanks

Nicely done, Taylor. FWIW, after I bleed my brakes, I bungee my brake lever tightly squeezed overnight to make sure any air bubbles are gone. 🏍👍🏍

For anyone reading....another trick for reassembly is using a deep socket to easily seat the the new snap ring. As well don't forget to replace the rubber tubular stop bushing before securing the oval plate on the bottom of the lever.

I liked this video. Cause it's a maintenance video as well. Shows how it's done and how to do it. 👍😎

Reverse bleeding is a great thing. I started using it myself after a dealer visit to the Triumph factory a few years ago although of course their way of doing it is a bit more technological than a syringe but I've done it that way ever since. A tip for any slight sponginess after is to hold the lever back overnight, I use a rubber band which is a section of an old inner tube. Any tiny bubbles then rise out.

Literally just, the day before you posted this, pulled the MC off my SV650 and looked for rebuild info. Awesome, parts ordered and will come back soon.

Best instructional video on KZbin for rebuilding an old Honda brake master cylinder! Only suggestion is you could have made it clearer about the direction of the seal installed at the 5.45 mark. (the larger flared end of the seal goes in first).

Why aren't you using Dot 5 silicone brake fluid, Taylor? It doesn't boil, displaces water, replenishes all the rubber in both the master cylinder and calipers so they never fail, and it's non-corrosive. Gets on your paint and polishes it as ya rub it off. I use it in all my bikes and every 4 wheeled vehicle I own. My '76 KZ900 (heavily modified for superbike racing years ago) has the same fluid in it that I put in when I swapped superior forks and brakes with stainless Teflon lines on 30 years ago! It's about to get a Hayabusa frontend update so I can have a matching wheel for the gixxer wheel on the back, also for the killer brakes and rigidity, of course. I'll have fresh fluid then too. :-)

Dude. You saved my ass. Thank you so much for this video !! I couldn't get the snap ring off and saw this video. I took a giant safety pin and bent the tip 90 degree and BAM!!!!!!! Simple as pie! I was like blown away it worked. Lol. Thanks buddy.

Hi Taylor, great video as usual. I wonder if you would consider adding links to the new parts you install on your bikes? Basically a help for us other CB500 lovers in sourcing products. Keep up the good work. Yours, Mark in Sweden

Have you ever played around with using smaller diameter master cylinders on these bikes in an attempt to improve braking?

Hey! Having trouble with the spring and new piston freely moving within the cylinder walls. Continuously gets stuck after cleaning and using the grease. I look at the cylinder walls and they look fine. Thinking of just replacing the master cylinder now

Hi sorry abit new to all this but would be great for you to include reasons ‘why’ you would do this? In all your how tos really. It’s great to know how to do these things of course, but why is something we would benefit from :). My 550 front breaks aren’t good at all, I take it a rebuild would be my option? Thanks

Taylor: After you refill the system with brake fluid from the bleeder, do you close the bleeder screw before you start to pump the brake lever to remove the air bubbles? Or leave it open and connected to the syringe?

with this method, syringing from the bleeder i'm assuming you close the screw then pump. y
