Love the look! What a list! I'm soo impressed! Looking forward to lots of reviews! I love that you have a lot of modern classics. I need to look more into those. I think I'd like to read Beloved this year and The House of Spirits as two modern classics. And more Elizabeth Gaskell cause I can't stop myself. If you read The Wasteland, Jen the librarian was talking about A Biography of a Poem as one of her favourite books in 2023. I have Shirley and The Professor to finish by the Bronte Sisters!

i dunno if it counts for your book-by-year rules coz it was written earlier, but De Profundis was first published in that early 1900s period =)

I never know with posthumous work. I tend to count year of publication or serialization but with works like Sanora Babb's Whose Names Are Unknown I counted as 1939 because it was originally set for publication that year even though it wasn't published until 2004. Interestingly enough Goodreads lists the publication date as May 18, 1897 the day Wilde gave the letter to Ross. It's first publication was 1905 (one of the years I have). But it is a great suggestion! Thank you.

Dickens is my VE Schwab of classoc literature lol i love some of his stuff and some of his stuff has put me in the deepest of depressions 😅 I'll say this: i went into Great Expectations expect to hate it based on what I already lnew of the plot and it ended up being my favorite Dickens novel so far.

Can you please hold the book still as you introduce it? I've never heard of this classic (and I have an English and Comp. Lit degree, so I'm intrigued), but, it's hard to read the title and the author when you're moving the book. Thank you. And thanks for sharing. This is a great list.

Yes thank you for the reminder! My hands are very active. Was it the Posthumous Memoirs of Bras Cubas by Machado de Assis or Eustace Diamonds by Anthony Trollope? I find that the more I study the more I find classics I've never heard of. (Most of the time I remember to list the books in the description, so you can always double check there) 😁
