Something hilarious to add about Aeneas is that at one point during the Iliad, Apollo dupes him into 1v1ing _Achilles_ under the logic that since Achilles is stomping the Trojans so bad because he's under his mother Thetis's protection, and since Aeneas's mother, Aphrodite, outranks Thetis in power, Aeneas should be able to beat Achilles handily. Aeneas challenges Achilles, and Achilles, naturally, stomps his shit in.
@vardiganxpl1698Ай бұрын
To be fair. Without knowing how much Thetis stacked him with buffs in his youth, one can be forgiven for thinking that Aeneas' divinity rank is greater than Achilles, after all Aphrodite is the direct daughter of Ouranos, and is somehow sister to the Titans, or daughter to Zeus. While in comparison Thetis was just a nymph, granted Thetis was the daughter of Nereus, but she is still basically a minor goddess

@@andrewjohnson6716 That makes sense in reference to pizza bit, as pizza is actually the Italian word for pie. Edit: Okay, there are some sources saying that pizza isn't actually Italian for pie and that the popular belief that it is came about after Italian-American immigrants introduced pizza to the USA as basically a type of "tomato" pie, hence where we get the term "pizza pie", leading to the idea that pizza is Italian for pie. The Italian word "torta" is used to refer to both pies and cakes. It's like the misconception that "sombrero" is Spanish for "hat" when it really refers to a specific type of hat, one with a wide brim. The Spanish word for "cap" is "gorro".

The Trojans didn't actually find the horse and just say "Seems Legit", a priest named Laocoon saw it and immediately thought what we all did and said that it was clearly a trap. To prove it he stabbed the horse several times with a spear narrowly missing one of the Greeks inside. The next night two snakes swam in from the sea and fucking murdered him and his two sons before slithering off to the temple of Athena and since snakes are symbols of Athena the trojans were like holy shit this is a monument to Athena and took it inside the city. Athena however favored the Greeks because of the whole golden apple thing and so, she sent the snakes to convince the Trojans that the horse was legit.

Sir Knight Different people tend to learn differently. The OP may have not learned much at English due to a lack of active engagement in the text, or found it incredibly boring. Trust me, history or English aren't the most fun of subjects. The video, however, uses to the point summaries, coupled with fun little gimmicks and a pleasing storyline to make the tales memorable! :D
@sirknight49816 жыл бұрын
I can understand that but I guess I was kind of confused by them saying they studied it for a month. I love history but for ELA I mainly read informational text, I have read older stuff like The Elements, Herodotus' The Histories, some of the Bible, and a little bit of the Odyssey(which I liked) and I thought they were fine. They were Goodreads if you had a book guide that gave you historical background to them and stuff like that. I enjoyed reading those guides as well because I like learning about historical stuff like time period slang that makes certain wordplay work and references that a person from the time-period would probably get but that are obscure to us.

Red's rant about Helen was me to my Ancient History teacher a couple days ago... I basiccally went on for a few minutes about how basically every single one of Helen's actions were quite possibly just Aphrodite puppeting her, and the *one time* she's in her right mind, she insults both Paris *and* Aphrodite before banging Paris (Which I interpreted as Aphrodite controling her again)

Hey! I think there's a key factor that you forgot about Virgil making the Aeneid. It's widely hypothesized that The Aeneid as we know it now is actually a rough draft of what Virgil wanted. When Virgil died, he had ordered that his draft of the Aeneid be destroyed. As we know now, this final wish was utterly ignored by Augustus Caesar.
@damienjarlen1797 жыл бұрын
WD Vinco Actually, if we want to go WAAAAAAAAAAY further back, it's techincally Peleus and Thetis' fault. Why, you ask? They didn't invite Eris to their wedding. Of course it seemed smart at the time, what with her being the personification of discord and all that, but refusing to invite Eris is exactly what provoked her into crashing the party in the first place! Remember how in Sleeping Beauty, Maleficent cursed Aurora because she wasn't invited to her christening, while the other fairies were? It's the same deal here.
@damienjarlen1797 жыл бұрын
WD Vinco True, true. I hadn't read any of the myths that stated who refused to invite Eris. So, I guess I just assumed it was the newlyweds in charge of the guest book.

Well, I don't think letting Aphrodite off scott free is fair. I mean, she kidnapped a chick and started this whole thing because she wanted an apple which stated what everybody pretty much knew already. Like, she could've just been like; 'Yo Paris, if you vote for me, imma give you the most beautiful UNmarried chick in the world, 'kay?' Would've solved a lot of issues.
@brianaschmidt9107 жыл бұрын
I think that what we're all forgetting is... Greeks and Romans were f***ed up. in most every way. and their gods were just bad. I mean... as the goddess of wisdom, you'd think that the goddess Athena would have something better to do than get in competition with the other two over an apple, and Hera (I can kinda understand that bit) and Aphrodite were the only two who had a legitimate reason to participate. and actually as it was a wedding gift, the Apple should have gone to the bride. But as the goddess of love and beauty, Aphrodite should get the apple, and Hera needs the apple because if Zeus sees that she has the apple then that means that she's the most beautiful woman and he need never cheat again. which I never got, cause if she was hot enough, why would he stray? why not stay and have a bunch of lovely godbabies? or maybe only Demeter, her daughter Persphone, and Thanatos are actually beautiful? or maybe it's because Zeus is the only one Kronos never ate, and the rest had their features slowly digested away, after all, Hestia (first born, first eaten) was regurgitated as nothing but a single flame. so maybe she's actually hideous and that's why Zeus strays so much?

She is credited with teaching humanity how to tame the horse, as well as inventing both the bridle and the chariot. I really like your video!however, there's something I want to say about the part of Aphrodite being a matchmaker. Actually Aphrodite made sure of Dido falling in love with Aeneas was to guarantee his safety in Carthage( since the queen favored him, no one would dare to harm him, right?) , and she also made sure that Aeneas would never really love her the way that she loved him. So basically he liked her and accepted all her goods happily, but when it's time for him to leave, he would still leave her. So... yeah, Aphrodite wasn't totally stupid XD and not to mention, poor Dido (sigh Anyway, other than that, I totally love the way you narrate!(especially the series that you drew, thumbs up)
