Claude Pisses Kenji Off With His Bowing- GTA 3 Definitive Edition Part 7

Personally what I believe the Issue between Claude and Kenji is this: Claude although mute understands a lot, so at first the bowing is just a customary thing. However the issue lie in the fact that Kenji completely disrespects Claude and treats him like dirt because he's an outsider. From Claude's perspective he probably never liked Kenji due to the lack of respect he showed him but was willing to take his money anyway, provided he does a good job with his assignment which he always does. What I think got to Claude at the end here is that he did everything he was told, followed the plan he was paid to do. And when the plan failed he was blamed for it despite doing exactly as told. It was Kenji and his poor planning and foresight that caused the failure, however he blames Claude heavily for it. Claude goes to bow initially as it is the correct greeting and is surprised by A) That Kenji didn't bow, and that B) Kenji is blaming him for something he had no control over. At that point I feel Claude's dislike of Kenji turned into hatred.

Yeah, I am shocked that The Professional actually thought it was because of the bowing. Even when Kenji is at yelling at Claude he says nothing about the bowing. Most of the time they are bowing at the same time regardless. It is funny too because even his sister treated Claude better than him. Honestly the job might have worked if they didn't have one of their members helping Claude.

To clarify *SPOILER ALERT* I'm pretty sure in a later cutscene Claude repeatedly bows at Kenji when Kenji is yelling at him. At this point Claude is being sarcastic and mocking Kenji. Perhaps in a very rude way as the constant bowing relates to the culture where part of that is also not to "lose face" and act out aggressively. So the constant bowing from a calm Claude in this later cutscene is when Claude really wants to get under his skin.

Despite having to kill Kenji, it adds a personal advantage for him to see the Yakuza to war against the Colombian Cartel. Claude is glad that Donald Love actually allowed a gang war to start.

Biggest Mystery:- 8 ball is the only known bomb expert in gta games, so maybe the bomb planted in the Cheetah car by Salvatore in "Last requests" was planted by 8 ball? Now thats not sure that 8 ball knew that the bomb had to be planted for Claude

There are a number of 8-Ball bomb shops around the map (including other cities as shown in some of the other GTA games) and I think it's generally just a business 8-Ball is running. He probably only really gets involved when something big comes up, like Salvatore's request to bomb a Colombian Cartel drug ship. Literally anyone can roll up into one of his shops dotted around Liberty City to get a bomb strapped to their car.

I never understood why anyone would use a hospital car park to plan a drug deal considering the number of people and cameras who would be there. Mind you, it's as logical as Kenji thinking that disrupting the deal once would somehow stop the Yardies and Columbians from meeting somewhere else to plan this.

The Colombian Cartel is shown to hold a great amount of power and presence in Liberty City, so I suppose the hospital being one of their possible hangouts isn't a problem because no one's able to push them out. That and the hospitals in Grand Theft Auto III are almost always deserted.

@@superplayerex2431 The hospitals lacking people seems to be more of a game engine limitation that something that would have an in-universe reason to be the case. Why would they choose a hospital as a front/hang-out though? As Junaid pointed out, their construction site would be better being as they'd fully control who would be visiting it (it would probably be an obvious spot for the police to watch if they hadn't been bribed though).

*Some edits due to needing a refresher on the GTA III storyline. Last time I played this game was over 10 years ago* I don't think Claude was trying to piss off Kenji. Bowing is a sign of respect in Japanese culture. I'm guessing by the accent that Kenji was born and raised in Japan (or at least raised in a culturally Japanese household) so he's likely used to that culture. Kenji is upset dealing with Claude because he's racist/xenophobic. He says "I don't expect much from a Gaijin" which is a term for foreigner in Japanese. Notice how he returns the bow and seems a bit more respectful after Claude proves to be a useful associate in the first few missions. The fact that he later blames Claude for failing is just him being a terrible boss; Claude did what he was asked, it's not his fault that Kenji's plan failed. Also, Kenji just appears to be a really angry person so expecting him to be nice like the Leones isn't going to happen. I think Claude betrays Kenji later simply because he wants the money, and after getting betrayed by Catalina and the mafia he doesn't really buy into loyalty or honor among thieves. Plus Kenji using Claude as a scapegoat at the drop of a hat isn't exactly going to build trust in a guy who's already been the victim of betrayal twice. Claude was respectful and faithful in his dealings with Kenji but, Kenji treated him like crap. So it's possible Claude wanted him out of the picture for personal reasons too.

Another original GTA callback with all kinds of links, the radio chatter in the cop car was the same as used in the Head Radio song "Days like these", and from a brit perspective, the percussion track in that song was also occasionally used on the ITV gameshow "Catchphrase" for the background music during their cartoons, and a related nugget to that is on the Head Radio top five tracks countdown, it featured a musical sting for Number One that in the 90s was used as the ident continuity theme for Tyne Tees Television, an ITV regional channel, though that theme was apparently more commonly used over in the US as part of a movie channel's idents, but I personally associate it more with TTTV... :)

Shima is one of those missions like triads and tribulations as something nobody has seen before it. You chase members of the diablos gang down accross the bridge to their projects and shoot it out with them. Probably best gta3 mission all time for me the idea of whats going on made it so epic.
