I imagine that those throwing a hissy fit over the diverse dolls don’t even buy them and even if they do it’s not like the original Barbie is gone, just buy that one and let the rest of us have fun. I’d say I’m even a little jealous of the kids today when it comes to the range of barbies. I can’t speak for every kid but at least when I was a kid, I loved having a wide range of choice.
@Angel-yg6su
@Angel-yg6su 3 жыл бұрын
yeah, I don't get why people throw fits over something like this? Why does it matter who's casted as the new Little Mermaid? You still have the OG. Why does it matter if there's Barbies that don't look like a skinny-blonde, you can still get a skinny-blonde doll. It's freaking stupid

Angel neither do I. I’m in the “Barbie is just a doll” camp, but I’m still happy to see Mattel produce dolls of various races, body types, and dolls that promote body positivity. For those complaining about curvy or amputated Barbies, once again, it’s just a doll.

Personally back in the 2000's as a kid you would look for clothing to change their dolls, long hair and play sets that were cool and you could use your imagination. Not just that your barbie was thick like you were. I would rather have that back and quality than all this "diversity"...

@@marcobenavides16 I think having a wide verity of Barbie's is a good thing because they're usually something that kids first play with, and showing a doll that's pretty no matter others say isn't pretty, which is good for little kids to know. They still have fashion packs to change the doll's looks, I've seen some in Walmart/Target. And as for quality, I have to agree that it went down at some point. IDK when, but it did, maybe 2010's because most went to MH and EAH? I can't tell you.

Well... Look... to be honest, I don’t care if Barbie is tall, petite, curvy, if she wears make up or not, I’m ok with that, I love the diversity of the dolls, but the only thing than I don’t like... is te quality... when I was a kid... I played with fashion fever, California Girl and other lines from these years, all the details were sublime, the materials were awesome and the accessories very fun, I just can’t accept the terrible quality of these days, the lasts Barbie than I bought, had pixelated faces, bad hair quality with poor quantity, the body very mad made, I can’t accept that... more because i paid the “justice price” I don’t feel de confidence for continue buying Mattel dolls... I gave another chance a few days ago with a new made to move doll... was worse... the quality was worse than before... with the BMR1959 line, I’m ok with the style, I like the different bodies and skins, I like the MTM, but I don’t feel the line as a “collector” line, I see more printed fabrics and bad quality again... I loosing the hopes with Mattel more and more...

Obviously it’s amazing that Barbie is making more realistic body types, but I can’t stand when people say that thin dolls like Barbie are the reason that girls have body issues. Male toys often have giant muscles yet you don’t see young boys stressing out about having that body. There’s obviously other factors that cause these issues, so people need to stop using Barbie as a scapegoat.
@onetwothree9
@onetwothree9 3 жыл бұрын
agreed. I played with Barbie as most girls did and never even thought about wanting to look like her, i only wanted all her stuff. Children are very much capable of recognizing that a doll is a toy and not meant to be realistic. They are, after all, merely young not stupid. If anything causes unrealistic body expectations it is all the photoshopped models in ads and instagram influencers, because with them it is actually difficult to distinguish between what is real and fake.

I can't understand how having a diverse barbie with a different body type is a bad thing like I get it kids don't really mind playing with the blood skinny barbie but is just so exciting to find a doll that has something in common with you. I don't think Mattel is trying to be a "justice warrior" but rather showing kids that are or have friends that look different "hey, it is normal to be this way" or "look is a doll that looks like you or your friend" and that is a wonderful move we should be giving support to.

Something that I want to say is, I love how Barbie is being diverse. That being said, their quality and how they manufacture is terrible. As with many companies, they manufacture in China. This means that thousands of workers, men, women, and children are being overworked and underpaid. This is something I hate: companies trying to be all about 'feminism' when thousands of women aren't getting fair wages. I just want to say, we need to be more mindful about what we consume. (Also, it isn't just Mattel doing this. I'm sure MGA, Moose, Just Play, etc. are doing this too).

I love the fact that they came out with barbies with different body types, and eventually ones like the prosthetic leg, wheelchair, vitiligo! There is so much more diversity then there was when I was a kid. I remember being excited when they came out with the new dolls. Mattel is definitely taking the right steps to being more inclusive, tho there is still a lot more to go for full inclusiveness. I haven't seen the Extra dolls until now, but I think they look rad af and would totally buy them.

I'm pretty impressed by the quality of the Barbie vlogs, I wasn't expecting a fashion doll brand to have discussions like that. I know more children's media, is blatantly discussing it instead of trying to subtly show it, so it's an overall trend and not something only done by Barbie. But it's nice to see the effort put into content like that. Media is not the end all for children's development, but it does play a role. I am absolutely in love with the Extras line! The fashion that I've seen coming out for modern fashion dolls, in general, is so fantastic. I really wish some of the Fashion dolls brands would release a matching outfit for the dolls, like American Doll. It's probably out of scope, but can you imagine being just able to purchase some of those jackets in an adult size?

I am so grateful for other small doll companies who made diverse dolls with different hair textures like Malaville and who made dolls with different body styles like Lammily because they are why Mattel is diverse now. I love your cosplay look. So gorgeous!!! I love MGA but totally get that some parents want a more PG fashion doll and that's what Barbie EXTRA can offer. Also I wonder if MGA found out about the Barbie EXTRA launch then made their EXTRA music video before the release. I mean it is so on the nose! BUT even if Mattel is blatantly ripping off OMG... I'm happy for the healthy competition. Makes Barbie more fun and lets be real MGA has nothing to worry about. They are SO innovative! Thanks for this very detailed video. i absolutely adore the look today!!!! that Barbie extra you matched with and the girl with the multicolored hair as well are my two faves so far! I do wish they had ankle joints tho lmao. I love when you do in-depth history vids like this, I know it must be tons of work, but I love it as a long-time follower of these dolls and their evolutions! Barbie Fashionistas and MTM dolls got me back into the Barbie world and honestly, I hope they keep moving the direction they seem to be going!

Ya, I'm not feeling those Pixel eyes lol😅I think that these dolls definitely have inspiration from the LOL OMG Dolls, like the boots of one of them look exactly like Swag's, the one you cosplayed as (Btw you look great🤩🤩🤩) definitely looks like candylicious, so on and so forth...Glad they have representation for the lgbt community and different races, along with disabilities, so kudos to them for that! I'm just waiting for lol omg to do that, like Bratz has but I really want them to confirm that busy and speedster are a couple or something, but baby steps lol. I love that they feature boys in the commercials as well, as I am a boy #representation 😋😋❤

That's fun to see my coworker Henry, the face painter. He was the face painter for the Sharpay doll on the High School Musical line. I had to explain to him how I needed a 'sideways' glance for Sharpay's eyes to reinforce her shifty personality.

Honestly, I don't get why people have to be so criticizing about the barbie EXTRA line, I think it's a nice, pretty line of dolls that resemble the influencers we have today. They wear popular and trendy fashions, sport cool makeup, and have different types of skin tones and body types. Like seriously, I don't get the hate, it's a doll? I bet people would still criticize barbie if they made a more realistic kind of doll that represents how everyone has been feeling this year. When I was a kid I never remember thinking about the body type or skin color the doll had, I simply wanted to be creative and style the doll in various fashions and come up with stories for them to play out in.

I mean let’s be honest, Love it or hate it Barbie created a foundation for other fashion dolls on the market, she opened a doorway so that companies could have some freedom and diversity in their dolls, she is like the mother of fashion dolls and has most likely influenced a lot of brands designs, that’s why I personally love her because without Barbie we wouldn’t have many other fashion dolls that we love.

ok so imma say this about the whole diversity and body positivity movement - I don't think we should normalize/accept being obese/morbidly obese and underweight/severely underweight. Studies have shown that when you show obese people in modeling gigs people are more likely to think that being obese is ok when in fact it comes with *HUGE* health risks (and it's always gonna be the same thing with underweight models being advertised). Our bodies are just not fit for such extremes so I think what modeling, doll lines, and society in general needs to do is come up with a new idea of diversity. Instead of fat and extremely skinny people advertised there should be different skin tones, cultures, ethnicities (I'm going to be honest I don't really know the difference between ethnicity, race, and skin tones but I'm sure they're different things), ages, face shapes, body types (as in pear, hourglass, upside-down triangle, etc.), acne, cellulite, different heights, hair textures, etc. just not extremes in weight. Also there is a difference between being curvy (like Doja Cat or Nicki Minaj and being overweight). Lets show kids and adults alike that its ok to have acne, or be old, have different hair types, etc. but it's not ok to be obese or underweight. Literally as long as you are a healthy weight and have a healthy lifestyle you are fine. Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk lmao

And we’re not gonna talk about how they are literally copying OMG dolls? I hate all modern Barbies not because they have different skin tones or body types but because they’re low quality and cheap copies of other dolls! But I really love 80s Barbies! If Mattel were to remake some of them I would totally buy them! Same with 90s Barbies too! I feel like ever since 2000 Barbie has gone downhill not only in quality gimmicks too! With 80s Barbies there was always something new and glamorous! Now every Barbie their lease is casual and is the same! That’s why I like LOL surprise! there’s always something new they have amazing quality and they put in a ton of 80s references!

I think Barbie EXTRA is a fantastic step forward with the Barbie brand, but it’s still not QUITE the fashion and quality as we’re seeing from other companies right now for the same price. Especially because of the pixelated facepaint and weird chunky strips of hair, but for Barbie, this is the best we’ve seen in YEARS, and I think all Barbies should come with the standard full articulation + accesories (minus the cheaper 10 dollar ones that can stay the same).

Barbie is having an identity crisis rn... I think Mattel needs to make a separate line specifically for younger play-oriented consumers and one for older collectors. Barbie isnt an MGA doll, this Extra line just isn’t BARBIE! I like the general vibe (although it’s not perfect) of the BarbieStyle insta... Chic, simple, fun older, COOL, successful career woman Barbie!
@jdollies1971
@jdollies1971 3 жыл бұрын
I don’t like the fact that Mattel shamelessly copied the concept of LOL OMG without developing its own unique brand, and still has the nerve to put pixelated dolls in a line that’s supposed to compete with MGA, whose quality is better than all collector Barbies released in the few last years... These don’t even come with stands!! The pets also feel very very out of place, it’s like they’re trying to appeal to everybody but lack cohesion and sense. They should’ve used the pet budget to fix the pixelated face paint that no one likes, add more acessories or a STAND.

Clawdeena9- The year is 2022, and I am just getting the opportunity to view your video. I enjoyed it very much. The dolls you included in this video are very iconic and timeless (in my opinion). I love the diverse doll line with the different heights, ethnicities, skin colors, etc, because I am an adult doll collector. I like to re-make things that inspire me in 3-D using the Fashionista dolls. I am currently working on "A Discovery of Witches", and have made my Sept-Tours. I have also made my Diana Bishop and Matthew de Claremont using Fashionistas. I am currently working on Ysabeau de Claremont and Phillipe de Claremont. The hard part is getting clothes of the 16th century. When I created Sept- Tours I focused on Phillipe's library. So I made a lot of the furniture, curtains, etc. The hardest part for me was the chairs as the detailing is very intricate. My teenage grandson is good at making the small miniature things I need for my doll houses. I purchase the Barbie Extra dolls whenever I am crafting a doll for someone else, as they have a lot on them and I do not need to change anything. For example, you want to create a Unicorn Barbie doll, well the Barbie Extra dolls all have stars, or hearts or sprinkles on their faces, and all you basically have to do is add a unicorn horn and tail to create them. Sooo easy. Again, I enjoyed your video. Thank you for sharing it.
