I am into car valeting, people sometimes fail to know,valeting and and detailing are different, I can get a dirty car trim,with my machines and chemicals looking well presentable.... But paintwork,is a different ball game, I usually work on used car lots who want cars to be spruced up,and a quick wash ready to go ! After watching this video,I got an old vuax meriva in black....valeted it,then did as this video stated. What a result, such a vast improvement on a simple wash n polish(by hand) The pitch owner saw the car I did,and immediately asked for quotes on the next dozen cars, I don't work on top jolly cars just used cheaper end of market stuff, but thanks to your videos,and I have watched a few,my work is now more regular....simple easy to follow tips,cheers.

Hi Jon. This is exactly how I got into machine Polishing as a mini business. SRP and Chem guys Hex Logic or later on when I learned more Menzerna pads and polishes. I spent hours and hours on Detailing World learning how to do it properly. One guy suggested a random orbital sander from Macallister sold in BandQ. Literally hundreds of us did this and the stores sold out in a week 😅 A few minutes to remove the guard and now you had a dual action Polisher for 50 quid. I did not know Autoglym have changed the formula to reduce dusting. I always kept a spray bottle with DI water in it to spritz the pad with. Brought back a lot of memories as I had to give it up due to spinal issues. Love your videos. So relaxing and you are just yourself. A certain guy from Canada should take a leaf from your book and learn some humility. 👍👌🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

After SRP can you apply fusso wax straight away? Or would I need to use ipa? I was thinking of using fairy liquid to get rid of the grease from the Polish before applying fusso to get rid of the grease. I'm trying to not use anything after polish. Please advice me.
@YeCannyDaeThat
@YeCannyDaeThat 2 ай бұрын
@@ehs786 Dont do that, Just go with the wax straight after the SRP. If you clean after SPR you will just be removing the fillers that you put down. Would be pointless.

Really appreciated this episode John. I’ve been using autoglym for a long while with my DA and wasn’t sure I was doing it 100% correct. Clearly I wasn’t. I was using panel wipe after the polish phase and then applying too much wax. I love your comment about timing 🤭 3pm and realising you’ve got so much more to do!

I feel like this type of system would work for 90% of the public. Maybe 98%. Most people dont care why their car or truck look good(fillers etc.) They just want shine! GUILTY as Charged Jon!!. I feel rushed on big jobs by the time I get to the final panels.... especially when working outdoors and I lose my daylight. Take care. Great video👊

Hi sir, thank you for sharing your knowledge for free. I bought a 2nd hand Audi (silver-gold) which had some water stains or bird poop marks maybe. Being afraid of removing too much coat I went down the SRP root with a medium pad (da polisher). (Having decontaminated with, bug n tar, iron remover and clayed). Unfortunately I did not have even the slightest improvement on the marks. I was not expecting them to be totally removed but smoothen somehow However, it worked fine as a filler and brought up some color brightness again. Thankfully, the colour is very forgiving. So your observations are spot on. Finally I topped with Collinite and beadmaker. I am waiting to check for longevity, but when the protection collapses I m thinking on going to a 2 stage correction medium compound/pad , polish/soft pad +sealant. Again, thank you for your efforts educating us.

Fantastic video 👍 This is pretty much the limit of my regime. And the maintenance of this work is one or two hand washes per week (including a pre-wash. Of those I’ve tried BH is the best) A point which I’d add is don’t do all of this hard work and then chuck your mitts/sponges/pads in the shed or in the garage, unprotected. I keep all of my touch tools (mitts, microfibres, etc) in a closed plastic box so that so dirt gets on them.

Funny you posted this. Back last year i needed to machine polish a bonnet but had run out of my usual Sonax stuff. I had a left over bottle of SRP, its like "My first polish". Follow Jon's advice, apply a good sealant like Fusso Coat, learn how to use Surfex HD as a prewash and BSD diluted as a rinseless wash and the car will look 100 time better than most cars on the road. You can really make an average car look amazing by just taking care of it. It's cheap and enjoyable to do so.

I use zvizzer polishing pads with the Koch range. I mostly work on bikes so use 2" pads and find a lot of brands either don't offer small pads or the small pads have useless durability. Zvizzer ones though are amazing quality pads that last a fair while considering the price. Not sure if you've tried them or use rotaries enough to need them but their new thermo pads are game changing. Insane durability and don't soften up when really working the pad.

I have the da polisher from argos. Its more than powerful enough. You can change the pad backplate top to any 5 /16ths. I've never had it at full speed, never felt the need. It does a great job. I've had more expensive da's and honestly it makes no difference. Also, autoglym hd wax is so overpriced. Bilt hamber double speed wax is much better and less than half the price. Also the newer autoglym srp is alot better but I've found menzerna 3 in1 is a similar price and knocks back swirls rather than filling them.

One thing that’s caused me doubt is you mentioning the 3” backing plate. I’m not sure if I can put a smaller backing plate on the Ryobi. I know you can replace the plates, just not sure whether there’s a standard fitment and whether a smaller one would fit. Interesting that you have used SRP. I’ve always been a fan of SRP, but always been let to believe that you get no benefit from using a machine with it.

Is it really that good to justify this price or could I get something as good cheaper, or something better for similar price? It looks nice to work with in your video, just wondering if anyone had any other suggestions before I commit?

Autoglym 'High Gloss Protection' is a must for me. This sealant will protect your finish like nothing else. Apply it by hand, wait an hour then buff. Try it. Edit: To be clear, after polishing forget about using wax, use this instead, swear by it.

EGP is great, but I have developed a love for the UHD wax...it's such a pleasure to work with. The gloss is better with the wax, but it doesn't last as long as Extra Gloss Protection

John I am scared to take the jump. I have been watching your videos for 2 years now. Taken a lot of advice from you & you have never let me down. Machine polishing is a fear of mine which I can’t seem to get over. I really want to start machine polishing. Really keen to learn but I am petrified of doing more damage than good. I adore my car she is the only woman that doesn’t give me trouble! 😂 My love for detailing is growing (mostly down to you) and my love for cars! And I really want to start this next stage of detailing. Think it’s the pads that is worrying me the most, there are so many! How much harder is the purple pad? For example if using AutoGlym resin polish with the orange pad, but still a lot of swirl marks after passes, would you switch to purple? Appreciate your help John. Hoping you see this I need your guidance! Hoping to have the confidence soon.

Don't be scared. Decon well. Then start with flex orange foam and finishing polish. If you need to step up go to flex purples and low cut compound. H9 f6 m3

@@ForensicDetailing okay. Which finishing polish would you recommend? Would AutoGlym be good to use? And which of the 3 cutting compound would you start with first? M3 as that’s the lightest? And lastly, sorry John without sounds like a complete idiot, you use cut compound first before polish? Thank you again for your patience

Love your videos Jon! Been using SRP for over 20 years and it still holds itself up against the more expensive stuff. I thought expensive meant better and spent a period of time using Menzerna without much benefit. Question: hard German paint! Would you consider 2008 vintage bmw carbon black “hard German paint”?

Really useful video and good honest straightforward presentation👍. Could I ask how many times you could polish a car, from new, before there is a possibility of compromising the clear coat. I know there will be variables, but I’m guessing that a clear coat would wear out eventually? Thanks.
@ForensicDetailing
@ForensicDetailing 2 жыл бұрын
And example because like you say so many variable. heavy correction might remove 3-5 microns with heavy cutting pad and multiple sets. little finishing polish with a glaze might remove a micron for example. say you have 50 microns of clear. when you get down to you last few microns you will start to see a patch forming. so the more CC on the car the better really.

You need an acid m8 that safe in paint. Or a water spot remover that's acid based. Soak it out with this. Wash it down. Clay it. Machine polish it because removing it will likely cause fine sctatch. A good acid could be like labocosmetica purifica or gyeon water spot. Or meguiars wheel brightener. Do a test spot first m8

Mr Forensic Detailing - thanks for the video and all the tips! This has been a great reference for my Focus. I've had great results with the Super Resin Polish but I was thinking about using a ceramic spray as opposed to a wax. What are your thoughts on ceramic sprays?
