His discussion was so helpful for me. I have been struggling immensely with this issue lately. I am praying and seeking the Lord to help me to love him more then this life , more then my husband and children and family. I'm going to get his book and learn more. I just don't understand why I struggle so much knowing that there is hope in Christ.

I have studied the bible chapter by chapter with First5 app for 5 years. Just completing my first read through Revelations makes me so excited for heaven. I admit to fearing the suffering of physical pain or sheer physical discomfort prior to death. I sat with my dad as he passed. I’ve had chronic physical pain for a good majority of my life and while my hope and joy lies on God my rock and firm foundation, coping well with physical pain is often a moment by moment reliance on Him. Pain is exhausting. In this span of 30 some years of pain, I’ve experienced a deep depression only once but lasted 4 years. Even then I continued to read the bible, relied on solid family/friends and took a group cognitive therapy course called “mind over mood” four times. Each session was 12 weeks. 48 weeks of this course! Looking back...while it was as dark as dark could be, I have learned how to cope with the on going pain in a healthier way. In my depression I discovered two unhealthy core beliefs. That God didn’t love me anymore and life with pain meant I had no purpose. I learned to identify new core beliefs. Learned to identify my unhealthy/untrue thoughts. But lying on the couch to rest all these years cultivated a love for prayer. Another plus is the ever so sweet times I am able to spend with Jesus. More time with Him than when I was healthy. Now I help others in their pain. Yes I sometimes engage in an occasional wrestling match with God but determined not to stay there long. I also began a gratitude journal prompted by Ann Voscamps book “ One Thousand Gifts”. Am on my fourth or fifth journal with nearing 4,000 entries. Looking back on the proof of Gods faithfulness is fuel to keep going. Thank u your fantastic easy to understand ministry Alisha. As a current board member, your ministry has changed a few aspects of our church direction/vision. 🙌✝️

Yvonne, I feel inspired by your comment. Thank you. I can’t imagine what it must be like to have lived with pain for 30 years. I went through deep depression for about 18 months and it was the hardest spiritual warfare I’ve ever waged. Journals to remind myself of God’s faithfulness also kept me going. Loved this podcast.

I almost died of swine flu in 2010 and it was exciting. I was aware I was kind of sleeping, sweating and couldn't breathe, but in my spirit I was excited to meet God. I wanted to practice a song I learned at church that night before I met Him. I woke up the next morning, barely able to move, with grey skin around my eyes and my husband said I looked like death. Hours later I coughed up some rubbery discs from my lungs and then slowly got better over 3 months. If only Christians saw death as excited to meet God!! I spent a lot of time in the hospital as a child so mortality has always been on my mind.

another idea is the atheist and humanist people often fight so hard for this world and wanting it perfect because this is all they have. A interesting saying is for Christians this is the worst its going to get and for atheist this is the best. Good topic.

And that truly says it all and it is quite literally what the Bible says again and again. Revelation labors this point that we will suffer, for only for a season. For a short time. And then we will be with our Lord in paradise, because of his perfect work of love and mercy in life and on the cross.

When Clay quoted Bertrand Russell it made me think of Ecclesiastes 4:4 "And I saw that all toil and all achievement spring from one person’s envy of another. This too is meaningless, a chasing after the wind." I believe he wrote like this when he was limiting his perspective to "everything under the sun".

I just heard a really good interview with Clay Jones on another youtube channel so I googled KZbin to find more Clay Jones . What a lovely surprise to see that one of my favorite you tubers (Alisa Childers) actually interviewed Clay Jones. There’s a lot of suffering going on now in my household. It is overwhelming. You two have been a great blessing in my life. I’ve always struggled with the subject matters (death, evil, suffering) Clay writes on. It’s hard to find Bible studies that will touch those subjects. Please bring Clay back on !! Thank you.

I’m only 20 mins in, so I’ll give some grace that he could still mention it. But my background is in healthcare, and I lead my family into eating well, and being active. I don’t do any of these things because “I’m trying to live forever”, as he says. I do these things because our bodies were built by God to consume real foods, not processed pretend foods. And the Bible talks about what he expects of men and women, and it all involves working and being active, we are designed to do things. And then there is the Biblical argument of not being a glutton. Which I see the most easily translated into what people do with their body. Is it not a sin to abuse your body with nothing but pretend foods, because you’re too lazy too put the work into actually cooking a meal for your family?? I feel like it is. It’s abusing your temple out of pure laziness. We should treat our bodies well, and be a good example of Jesus, and be healthy enough to be the hands and feet of the Lord, while we are here. Now, I am not the type of person to confront others on their sin, or anything like that. I don’t run around telling everyone how they really shouldn’t prioritize their comfort as much as they do, while they are killing their family with Mcdonalds Every night. I don’t do that. But if someone asks me about nutrition, or working out, I answer their questions with love and truth. Because I do want them to feel better, and therefore be able to live better for God. I’ll stop ranting now, but it’s just been bothering me trying to listen to his lecture here, while he paints anyone who cares about health to be a crazy vegan atheist. Some of us live healthy for God, and we have scripture reinforcing that that is a good thing to do. I just wish he could have given that a mention. Le sigh...

Am still a student, but I've worked in old people's homes, dementia specifically. The point isn't to live forever, it's to not end up with completely debilitating illness at 55 like some of my former patients. How does it glorify God to be a nearly immobile wreck at an age where your grandchildren would still love to tussle with granpa? Who wouldn't want to be the grandmom who can teach the little ones gardening in practise? Take the grandkids hiking, or dancing, or a dozen of other things people can do up to their 90s if they are extremely lucky? If anything, eating the typical American diet and living the sedentary lifestyle is a sin.

“The next day, as they were on their journey and approaching the city, Peter went up on the housetop about the sixth hour to pray. And he became hungry and wanted something to eat, but while they were preparing it, he fell into a trance and saw the heavens opened and something like a great sheet descending, being let down by its four corners upon the earth. In it were all kinds of animals and reptiles and birds of the air. And there came a voice to him: “Rise, Peter; kill and eat.” But Peter said, “By no means, Lord; for I have never eaten anything that is common or unclean.” And the voice came to him again a second time, “What God has made clean, do not call common.”” ‭‭Acts‬ ‭10:9-15‬ ‭ESV‬‬ “And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them inthe name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”” ‭‭Matthew‬ ‭28:18-20‬ ‭ESV‬‬

I really enjoyed this conversation. It was really good. Although it did paint issues that plague humanity with a broad brush. Certainly the answers given dont fit all. For example, I believe in living healthy not because I dont want to die or anything like that. But because I want to honor what God gave me by taking care of it. Which I dont do perfectly. But I try. And I'm not afraid of death because i dont think of it, the opposite is true for me personally. I've lost my best friend, my grandparents, my parents, and countless other beloved people in my life. Death has been in my face since I was small. But I feel that as long as im with God this world doesnt hold me. If I wrestle with fear it's based on that voice that creeps in proposing the question" what if you're really not saved?". I know I'm not the only one who has heard that voice. And also I do know the names of my great great grandparents, as well as many of their children and those childrens children. And they do matter to me. But I make no mistake of thinking my impact in this world is somehow going to carry on throughout time. And I dont wish for it to. I only want to try every day to please God. Be grateful for the forgiveness offered when I fall, and I do. And do my best to show the love of Christ to others. I dont say all of this as a critic of the show. I actually quite enjoyed it. I only bring it up because blanket statements while they may be mostly true they are never the full truth as it applies to all. We all wrestle with this world. And we all have our reasons why. One thing we can all agree on probably is that we will all be happy when we are no longer forced to keep up with the Kardashians 😉

Great video! It provided some thoughts. 'Strive to enter in by the narrow door, for many, I tell you, will seek to enter in, and will not be able.' The question is whether christians who only live for this world are heading to heaven at all. The've believed from their youth that they are going to heaven, but it seems that the necessity of being born again is forgotten.

I am a Christian who fears death. Yes I love this world, because it treated me very well. But my fear is mostly due to the underlying doubt that many Christians have. We believe in God and Jesus, but a small voice in the back always insinuates the possibility that we are wrong and the atheists are right. I cannot defeat that small voice; I can only try to drown it with the louder voice of faith. But it is still there...

I work with hospice patients so, they usually have some time to deal with their feelings and to think about their death. It’s interesting that whether they are believers or not, at a certain point in the dying process, they just accept it and say they’re ready to go. And the natural dying process the body goes through helps because as systems shut down the body is wired to knows how to die by fading into unconsciousness. I’ve personally witnessed this process many times with different types of personalities, cultures, religions and the way terminally ill patients die usually follow the same pattern. all So, today is the day of salvation. Waiting until your death bed may mean you’re not alert enough to be saved at the last moment.

Just a caution, if I may: those people who take SSRIs or other antidepressants to balance their serotonin levels do not get high from their medication, and even implying that those medications are frivolous or escapist is actually harmful. Many close to me are depressed, and already fight the internal battle of tolerating ridicule for taking “happy pills“. I have not read Rosenberg’s writing, but that particular quote brought up (twice!) and interpreted in this way could definitely be uselessly hurtful to some of your listeners.

Thank you for mentioning this. I AM one such listener. I also want to mention that I don’t get HIGH from my SSRI. It makes me feel how “normal” people feel. And trust me, I still struggle even to feel normal. SSRIs are not a fun trip. They are an aid to provide my brain with seratonin it wasn’t getting for decades and those pathways in my brain forgot how to work to produce good/normal feelings of wellbeing.

Hello Alisa, has there been any update on if Clay will be coming back to discuss heaven? I actually just had a conversation with my roommate about heaven. She is a newer believer, but isn't looking forward to it and thinks that the life on earth is enough for her. I told her that she probably has a misunderstanding of what heaven is because heaven is will better than we think it is and if she is a believer she will be going to heaven if she likes it or not! Lol. But, I really think it would be helpful for us to have some understanding on what heaven will be like and what our role is in it. Thank you!

I had sort of the same reaction, but I think his point was that some people are trying to live longer.... I think that the possibility of living longer can be a motivator for people to eat healthy and workout.... but for me, it has to do with the ability to live well. I have seen so many people who are diabetic or face some other disease that may be attributed to diet or lifestyle and live in terrible pain, with limited mobility and requiring on going care. Why would anyone want to live that way if through healthy choices, we can live life well. But more important is the fact that our bodies belong to the Lord (1 Corinthians 6:19-20). For the same reason we wouldn't want to harm our bodies through abuse of drug or alcohol, we should be careful about what we eat and drink. Romans 14:8 tells us "For if we live, we live to the Lord; and if we die, we die to the Lord. Therefore, whether we live or die, we are the Lord’s."

Fearful of what? but then why does the Bible say to "work out your salvation WITH FEAR and trembling? Or was that not to be applied to us today? This all sounds a bit confusing. So. You die, and now you're in the "Afterlife". Will you ever sleep? Will you need to eat? What? How? Will you feel hot or cold? Will we stand up? Sit down? Float? If you wont ever sleep after death in your "spirit-body", then does this mean you'll never feel tired?

You seem to provide the right amount of qualifiers in the terms you used,and the framing of answers,to not allow the audience to assume triggered meaning. In your citation of the GOSPEL,First letter by PAUL/ Saul-of-Tarsus,to the Corinthians,chapter-No.15,you provide a very sound biblical rationale for the current common misunderstanding of the GOSPEL to mean ‘that CHRIST ‘died’ for our ‘sins’ in accordance with the ‘scriptures’; that He was ‘buried’; that He was ‘raised’ on the third day in accordance with the ‘scriptures’; and that He ‘appeared’. As we know from the GOSPEL Works and Words of the Life,Morals,Teachings,and Philosophy of JESUS-of-Nazareth,He taught the ‘GOSPEL’ to be preached by sending out - MISSION - His Apostles and followers long before His;’GOSPEL-to-mean-‘that-CHRIST-‘died’-for-our-‘sins’-in-accordance-with-the-‘scriptures’;-that-He-was-‘buried’;-that-He-was-‘raised’-on-the-third-day-in-accordance-with-the-‘scriptures’;-and-that-He-‘appeared’. If I’m not mistaken,in your interview,you cited this passage as the First stated Christian creed identifying it as the ‘ATONEMENT’ and ‘RESURRECTION’,as ‘according-to-the-scriptures’; And,therefore;correct biblical canon. And, therefore; it may be very helpful to untangle the sequence and overlapping suppositions of the narrative. To answer questions for clarifications,I know what to say and show; making the case,that the common westernized American ‘historical’ Christian understanding of the GOSPEL as described by PAUL,Saul-of-Tarsus in chapter-No.15 in his First-letter to the Corinthians does not equate to the GOSPEL as taught and promulgated by JESUS-of-Nazareth,as follows: The GOSPEL of JESUS-of-Nazareth is; the ‘forgiveness-of-sins’ preached to the poor; the ‘Kingdom-of-Heaven-and-of-God-is-within-and-among-us’; the ‘Kingdom-of-God-is-at-hand’ by living life by following the ‘New’ and Personal - ‘My’ - Commandment to love one-another,God,your neighbour,yourself,and your enemy;as JESUS loved those things - even to the point of giving our lives as He gave His Life. This is the ‘proof’ that everyone will know that we are His ‘Disciples’ - CHRISTIANS - not as ‘servants’,but rather as ‘friends’,because servants do not know what the Master does. The GOSPEL according to the ‘scriptures’ as PAUL states twice refers, is; ‘that CHRIST died for our sins’; and, ‘that He was raised on the third day’. Although we know this to be the ATONEMENT and RESURRECTION. The only actual reference in the Old-Testament ‘scriptures’ to these two defining citations of ‘first importance’,if I’m not mistaken,correct me if I’m wrong, is; ISAIAH,chapter-53:verses-five-to-12; and, PSALM,chapter-16:verses-eight-&-nine. In ISAIAH; the ‘he’ referred to is ZION, ZION is used figuratively as the ‘city-on-the-hill’, church-&-polity of the Hebrews, or, ‘Heaven’,in general; similarly to the way western civilizations refer to the ‘city-on-the-hill’, temple-&-polity of the Greeks’ ‘Acropolis’, or, ‘Democracy’,in general. In PSALMS; the ‘he’ referred to is King DAVID himself, in a statement of self reassurance of his inheritance and legacy,while lamenting in a dirge, ‘not’ JESUS. This can be seen as a come-back ‘rise’ and ‘restoration’ of the official ‘anointed’ king,regardless of appearance of defeat. There may be other referential passages in the Old-Testament ‘scriptures’ to the implied ‘death-for-sins’, or, even; ‘restoration’, these are all vague rhetorical poetics of literature,and not specific citations that PAUL provides evidence for the ‘burden-of-proof’. As we know,references to ‘Scriptures’ in the First-century text was usually used in reference to the Old-Testament text,not the New Testament,or GOSPEL text. Since,PAUL was an expert in Old-Testament text and meaning,he carefully proceeded the term of use ‘scriptures’ in chapter-15,I-Corinthians, commenting by citing that he was reminding them of the ‘terms’ preached as the ‘good-news’ - GOSPEL. The case to be made for GOSPEL,ATONEMENT,and RESURRECTION,is as follows: … Attachment ~
@allanvanderley193
@allanvanderley193 3 жыл бұрын
Attachment, ... GOSPEL The use of the term 'Christian' in this context seems misleading and used rather loosely. To explain need not be lengthy: Jesus of Nazareth taught the ‘Gospel’ of the ‘Kingdom-of-Heaven’ as being within and among humankind. He sent His Apostles and followers to preach the ‘Gospel’ multiple times long before His Crucifixion and Resurrection. The ‘Gospel’ as so often cited by ‘historical’ and ‘traditional’ Christianity as being; ‘the-Crucifixion-Death-and-Resurrection’ as a ‘Sin-offering’ to God as a ‘penal-substitutionary-atonement’ for humanity’s Sin of ‘freewill’ is obviously false and bogus theology. The Gospel is the forgiveness of sins by following the Commandment of Jesus. That is to love one another as He loved others,even to the point of giving up one’s life,this would be ‘proof’ that ‘all-will-know’ one is a Disciple of Jesus,not as a ‘servant’,but as ‘friends’,because a ‘servant’ does not know what a ‘master’ does. The RESURRECTION of Jesus as a Divine Act of God raising by restoration to Life was, the ‘ANOINTMENT’; [English-a ceremonial confirmation of sovereignty by divine right], or ‘CHRISTOS’; [Greek], of ‘CHRIST’; [Latin], as ‘MESSIAH’; [Hebrew]. This was proof and validation that the ‘Gospel’ of the ‘Kingdom-of-God’ is within and among us,by ‘loving one-another to the point of giving our lives to others as the Christ’ had Commanded. To be clear, it ain’t complicated, only thinking of false-doctrine makes it so. ... ATONEMENT Since, we are familiar with the Parable of the Tenant Farmers of the Vineyard,note; as they kill the ‘heir’ outside the vineyard, Jesus asks the audience ‘what do you suppose the owner of the vineyard will do’? This is an allegory of the Crucifixion outside the jurisdiction of the Hebrew Law. ‘Sin’ offerings were to be made by ‘lot’ at the tabernacle; ’scapegoats’ were to be released alive into the wilderness - ‘shunned’. Before actually dying,Jesus said two things directly attributed to the Hebrew Law. As a ‘scapegoat’ He was cast out into the ‘wilderness’; there, outside the ‘vineyard’, as He was dying having been put to death after He was sent by the Father,as Owner of the vineyard to reconcile the debt accounts of the Tenant Farmers, the debtors instead, had the ‘Son’ killed. Upon His death He asked His ‘Father - forgive them...’, and, stated, ‘It is finished’ - giving up His Soul. The ‘It is finished’ part is that ‘not one jot and tittle’ of the Law that required the rendering onto God which is His shall be left undone. God was to have made ‘atonement’ with a living ‘scapegoat’,in the ‘wilderness’, ‘not’; a human sacrifice as a ‘sin offering’ at the Tabernacle. The ATONEMENT was made by the Son asking the Father to ‘forgive’ the debts of all those whom rejected and killed Him for merely asking for the Tenant-farmers to render onto God which is His. Big difference. Again, feel free to correct me if I am wrong. Love, in His Name. ... FULLSTOP . ~

I think the issue of death and "meaning" in live is highly individual. As a nonbeliever I don't fear death but I do fear the process of dying. Most of the "mortality mitigation projects" he describes are done by atheists & Christians alike. So I'm not seeing the difference.

But is the Christian answer any better? How can we be happy in Heaven knowing loved ones are in Hell? It makes me laugh when people dismiss Christianity as wishful thinking, because it's a terrifying prospect.

That's a good question...that heartbreaking terror and love/compassion for the souls of others drives a Christian here on earth to share the Gospel all the more, so that everyone gets a chance to hear it, repent (turn from their sin), and go to heaven, too. It is life or death. My trust in God's perfect justice and sovereignty helps me with questions like that, ones that I don't have all the answers to, because He is good, so everything He does is good (can't get bad fruit from a good tree and vice versa). Faith is a gift from Him.

mary mack not to be rude but I really don’t think you are going to be in heaven spending time thinking of those in hell if that is the case it really won’t be heaven. The bible clearly states that heaven is going to be so amazing that you can’t comprehend it. And that the father is going to wipe away every tear from you eye. If you are going to spend time thinking of loved ones in Hell then what God has prepared for those who love won’t be that great will it. Again God will be our centrepiece and our adoration why on earth will our minds and hearts be on hell

This right here is why I always tell my children and husband that for nature Christian loving someone means caring about whether or not they walk with Christ. You cant be a Christian, love someone, and be flippant about their belief system. We also have to recon with the fact that we arent in control of what people believe. And it is scary. Saying I love you for you isnt enough. We can love someone far from God but we cant turn our hearts away from it. There is nothing more terrifying to me than the thought of my child dying ( not as a child but a accountable adult) and not being saved. But we all have the choice. I love God first. He is s good and just God. We are not good and just people.

We deserve hell by our sins. We’ve committed crimes against the one and only holy and perfect God yet He still sent His Son to take our place and die for us to save us from our own sin. If someone is in hell they didn’t accept the free deliverance by Jesus and didn’t repent look up Paul washer on Romans about Gods wrath

44:43 Not Heaven, but the Kingdom of Heaven. The ones who follow the Lamb would be in the New Jerusalem, "By its light will the nations walk, and the kings of the earth will bring their glory into it, and its gates will never be shut by day-and there will be no night there. They will bring into it the glory and the honor of the nations. But nothing unclean will ever enter it, nor anyone who does what is detestable or false, but only those who are written in the Lamb’s book of life." Revelation 21:24‭-‬27 Good theology is central to understanding our place here. There's a reason why we have bodily resurrection because we were made into a living being as God breathed His Breath into Adam.

I have to disagree with Clay Jones perspective on the use of psilocybin mushrooms, magic mushrooms, as obviously he is not well read in that regard. Psilocybin Mushrooms has had a very good success rate as to helping many face their fear of death,. For me, at 66, I am afraid of death, nervous I am as I am struggling with my faith in Christ, realizing this is key, my relationshipwith Him, and to live my life accordingly in regards to "any" fears I might contend with. However, using substances so as to heal, not to get high, I don't believe is a sin. It's not as black and white as you express...

There is nothing wrong with trying to eat healthy and be fit as a Christian. God certainly wants us to take care of the bodies He‘s given us. However, for too many people their healthy lifestyle becomes a religion in itself - so that is not okay. On a different note: Mr Jones should be grieving for people who spend their whole lives trying to live forever but reject Christ‘s offer for eternal life. He‘s being way too smug about it for my liking.

God is the Author of life, not death. There is no death. What you think lives and dies - the body - is not who you are as God created you. When the body's usefulness is done, you lay it down, that's all. Life is eternal.

i have to disagree here. i really don’t think people want to live forever... at least most. i know i don’t. i fear the pain of death and how i will die, but i want to be with God eventually. i think i most people also just fear how they will die and the pain. some people care about health too much for vain reasons, certainly you can be obsessed, but some people might work out at 6am and eat healthy and go to a gynecologist so they can stay alive for their family and children and friends??! and do the work of God on earth?? i’m not sure how you missed that... edit: i also care about the names of my great-great grandparents LOL i love history and ancestry is fun

sorry, sigh, but i have to say more. humans naturally do not think about death. we suppress traumatic things, that’s we’re wired. it’s also why we don’t remember our birth. it’s why women go through childbirth multiple times even when it’s awful-we forget. we HAVE to forget or we would not function. i don’t think people deliberately don’t think of death... it’s naturally to not. furthermore depression is an illness. those who are very depressed WANT to die, so how is that a symptom of being afraid of death? people with depression are MORE afraid of LIFE. i am Christian and i respect you both but must respectfully disagree with the points presented here. i think there is some truth but it’s a bit of a distorted or hyperbolized view of how humans actually think and function. i think people need God and shouldn’t fear death but desire heaven but i don’t think God wants us to live recklessly and not care about health because of it. i also think death is naturally supposed to make us sad. it’s sad to lose loved ones who have been there for us in this lifetime! even moving into heaven we are abandoning all we have ever known. i think that’s normal and how we are made to be.

Fear of death is the most unifying human experience there is I think. No one is getting out of this thing called life alive, and thus we are all in this together. Are secular people afraid of death? Of course they are, you are not really fully alive if you are not. But Humanists are not the ones who have invented an elaborate system of spiritual beliefs to try and take that essential part of the human experience away (I know every apologist will say Humanism is a religion, but if it is one, it is a much simpler one, you have to admit that). If as a conservative Christian you would say 'I have an absolutely unshakable belief that my consciousness will continue after death, and I will be with God and my family members etc' might you be the one who is not actually wrestling with the knowledge that you will die? If your 'solution' to your coming death is telling yourself that you will not actually die, that is the ultimate spiritual bypass of reality. When the time comes, we must all take the leap of faith into the void, no way around it. Do not tell me you know what will happen after that, because you don't, and you know darn well that you don't. What you have is a hope for a certain outcome, fair enough, but that is all that it is...

as a Christian, i do understand you here. i think we all, no matter how much faith. must face that idea to some capacity. we are simply humans and cannot know definitively what will happen or how it will happen when we die. how could we ??? perhaps i don’t have enough faith, but how are you human if you don’t have those doubts???
