We use this type of technology (but from Kramer and using fiber) to operated the control consoles in oil/gas industry. Some support up to 4 monitors at 60 fps each. Makes working on a computer pretty simple as it’s rack mounted at a reasonable height instead of laying on the floor. Also better for noise and cooling. The lay-flat stand would be neat for a touchscreen monitor.

@5:40 you mentioned UTP and issues with STP. I see the RJ45 port also had metal so guessing the shielding was bonding the chassis ground of both devices, which ends creating a potential ground loop and sums the various noises (static electricity, 60Hz hum, radio) from both ends. It would have been nice to drop the shield on one end and see if that fixed the issue. In certain applications, shielding should have only one path to earth (or in your case chassis) ground, which might have been the issue here. This is a subject I have been researching for a while now and why I use (so far successfully) CAT5+ shielding that drains at one end only for AES50.

I like this as an option. I'm debating getting a small rack in our tech booth. But may not go this route. We're finishing up our church renovation and thinking through the booth cleanup. (All the cables are running on the desk while we finish the floor.) The runs to a rack would be under 15ft, so we're just thinking of mounting the hardware underneath the desk along the sides of the cabinets. It may not be pretty, but we went over budget with everything else. All the excess cable in the ceiling ended up in the booth as well, so we're thinking of getting garage utility hooks to hide the excess under the desk. For everyone else, keep this in mind. What are "Nice to have" items, verses "Need to have" items.

I used same brand for our rack mixer. I needed the mixer up front but still wanted control with FireWire at tech booth. Used this to mimic having a stagebox and it was super solid for years

This concept of design is also used in A&H's flagship "dLive" consoles. Both I/O and processing are concentrated in a rackmount unit, and the "mixing desk" itself is just a control terminal.

I have a test for this baby. Most of our broadcasts are for sports. We have a Roland P20-HD replay controller used in conjunction with a Wacom pen tablet. I need to extend the pen tablet (usb and hdmi) to a remote commentator location. This would be worth its weight in gold if it worked.

NOTE: You can use STP (Shielded) BUT the metal drain wire has to be properly wired to a ground on ONE end! (Not both)
@computer411
@computer411 Ай бұрын
Also make sure you read the manual for the KVM, most of the ones I use in industrial environments require STP to work correctly. Used UTP cable in a control room and the system was unusable. For those who need really long distance runs, there are also fiber optic solutions as well.

I made the same comment (a little more wordy) one day before your comment. Would have been nice to see if dropping the drain on one end would have solved the issue.

Say one of these workstations needs a quick option for a usbc hookup for a ssd. How would you go about that? Would you have to go back to the control room and plug it in then come back to the workstation? Because if you usb-a to c adapt, there would be a bottleneck in speed

Just put in an adder KVM for our Resolume computer. Have you had any luck with getting MIDI controllers to go through KVM? I can power the unit(akai, midi mix), but the Mac won’t see it as a midi device. I confirmed it works by plugging it directly in to the new Mac Studio also.

This was a great video. I only have one critique. The metric system is used by more than half of the world’s population. And it’s highly robust. I work in AVL for churches and non church venues. When you say things like “real measuring units” you insult people throughout the world. As believers we need to avoid doing this. It also degrades your ability to be trusted professionally. We should be learning both because both are really strong forms of measurement. Be blessed.

Same for driving a car on the left Vs right side of the road. We all know that the left side is the right side 😊 I honestly can't see the reason for anyone to be offended.
