Clean weights that are rusty | DIY gym equipment at home

To clean weights that are rusty, you'll just need a few tools. In this video I'll show you how to make DIY gym equipment at home. It is an easy DIY project. I bought these plates from a guy who had them in his barn for years. He sold the weights to me for cheap because they were super rusty. Turns out, cleaning and refinishing them only took about an hour.

This is the best way to renove rust from weights, easy and quick, unlike other methods that take a lot of time and effort by scrubbing them with wire brush. Too much work. I did it once with white vinegar but the rust came back. This time I used this method and it is the best way to remove rust. Electrolysis takes a lot of time too, so I suggest this method over the other ones.

If you don’t want to paint the weights do you need to protect them with something? I’ve read in many forums wd40 works to add a seal.

I'd suggest using a clear coat of spray paint, Rustoleum makes a clear matte (amzn.to/3kkxpWU) that will protect but leave the weights the natural color. Using a matte finish instead of a gloss or satin will make it less noticeable. WD40 works to prevent rust too, but I'd go with the spray because it will dry after it is applied. Good luck! Can you make 5lb. Weight plates black again without painting them,if you season them like and old frying pan? Clean first with a soap pad. Rinse. Dry. Then put flaxseed oil on them and put in a 350* oven for one hour????

All paint will eventually chip off. I usually just spray on a new coat of paint when it gets bad.

You should try " PLASTI DIP " or "vinyl wrap " spray helps with weights being dropped...

Actually you can soak them in Apple cider vinegar overnight and it will remove everything.

Tried it and it doesn't work as well, plus it stinks.
