Witch hazel! Who knew? Love this eco and biologically friendly approach to sanitation. Harsh chemicals make my skin react every time. Thanks for 4 new options!

Yes exactly! Which hazel was a bit of a surprise for me too! But it seems to be a popular eco friendly choice :-)

When I watched this video, I had been faithfully cleaning my Jade yoga mat with vinegar for half a year. It doesn't feel like having gone through much degeneration though. I wish I had known it earlier.

That’s how I felt when doing the research for this video! Happy to hear your Jade mat is still doing great.

I may have missed it but which do you recommend for cleaning a cork mat?
@ThisYogaLife-ak2 жыл бұрын
(sorry for late reply) Good question! I have never owned a cork yoga mat so I hadn't looked into it. I just checked the Scoria website (they have some beautiful cork yoga mats) and this is what they recommend: "After practice, lay the mat flat to air dry. If there is dirt or body oils, wipe the mat down with a wet soft cloth with warm water. Every once in a while you can use mild soap with water before stains settle. And please DO NOT put your Scoria yoga mat in the washing machine."

@@ThisYogaLife-ak thank you so much for your reply! I did wind up buying the jade mat spray again, but the shipping price was insane! When I run out again, I will definitely use the diy you suggested!

Hi Alexia! Thank you for your posts.. I went searching for a way to clean my jade yoga mat and came across this video. I know how I’m going to wash my jade for the deep cleans but was wondering what you think if I use 4 parts water one part which hazel and a drop off eucalyptus? Noticed their actual cleaner contains a small amount so I figured a drip would be ok. Please let me know your thoughts! I know vincegar is a no no

@ThisYogaLife-ak Жыл бұрын
@@musculargeneralblue2860 if you want to use things you already have in your house, then either use 4 parts water and 1 part white vinegar, or for a deeper clean use a few drops of liquid soap in water. Hope that helps!

Surely not all Manduka mats aren't supposed to be cleaned with vinegar? I have Manduka mat made from rubber (can't remember the name of the model), and they recommend cleaning it with vinegar as it supposedly conserves rubber. For first time cleaning I even bought vinegar cleaner of their brand specially for this. Now of course I make it myself, it's much cheaper in the long run. ;)
@ThisYogaLife-ak2 жыл бұрын
Marek you are correct and the truth is finding what to clean your yoga mat with can be very confusing, especially when it comes to vinegar and rubber mats. When I looked into it, I saw that vinegar is great for cleaning in general, however that it shouldn't be used with rubber because the acid of vinegar can eat away at rubber. And so I assume that is why Jade says to not use vinegar on their rubber mats. However Manduka has a rubber mat cleaner which contains vinegar (I have that one too!). Perhaps the idea is to use it only if you heavily dilute it. So if that's what you use and it works, then keep doing that!

So is the baking soda method safe for the manduka prolite?
@ThisYogaLife-ak2 жыл бұрын
Baking soda is generally a great way to clean smelly yoga mats. If you are worried about using it on your mat, you could always use Manduka’s brand owned cleaning spray. More information in my article here: yogamyoldfriend.com/how-to-clean-manduka-yoga-mat-step-by-step/

Surely vinegar isn’t going to make my mat smell too good?!
@ThisYogaLife-ak2 жыл бұрын
It's true that vinegar on its own doesn't smell very nice! However, when you dilute it and especially if you add essential oils , then you can't really smell the vinegar. And even if you do, the smell goes away quite fast :-)
