Keep in mind that if you go for the Manduka Pro, the “lifetime warranty” is only for the first 10 years of your use. They consider the lifetime of the yogamat 10 years. Which is fair, but I think the marketing is a bit misleading
@jeldouvanderheide6067
@jeldouvanderheide6067 Жыл бұрын
Keeping in mind that compared to a brand like Liforme, who offers mats around the same price, does not offer any warranty at all. I’m not sure about lululemon and Jade, as they are less available on dutch websites.

Manduka makes a great mat, but they are extremely dishonest and shady as hell. As you point out. The packaging on the pro screams "Do not submerge in water!" No, you MUST buy their insanely expensive mat cleaner which is: wait for it...99% water! And adds another plastic bottle to the waste stream. Real eco, idiots. And this while simultaneously boasting about how it's closed cell, so won't get absorb sweat and odors. Gaslighting bullshit! It is 100%, utterly waterproof: solid plastic. Use your dishsoap and wash it cheap and easy. I just wipe mine once in a while with a towel, have only washed it well once, in 4 months. Grip is fine. They are a really sick, greedy company. I bought the mat, because it will last, but I still disdain them. The mat should live way more than 10 years in any case. It is mega solid. The slippery-when-wet issue can be beaten with a towel, or I am going to experiment with a pair of grippy cycling gloves. :) Socks grip fine for me.

I've had my Manduka Eko for 5 yrs for my ashtanga practice and it is only now starting to show wear...the grip is incredible on it, ridged poured rubber (the best I've ever had) and at 5.7 mm and 7 lbs the cushioning was great. I was lucky at the time to get a cool pretty pattern which they no longer make. I can't bear to throw it out. I was lucky to get a Liforme at a very reduced price, the grip is good but the cushioning is lacking for me. So I put my pretty Liforme on top of my old Manduka and now I have the best of both worlds! Super pretty (take it off to travel) and FABULOUS cushioning at nearly 10 mm thick. I leave it out permanently in my yoga studio. If and when Manduka comes out with a pretty pattern/color for their Eko I will definitely buy another as it has served me well.

Manduka really is an incredible mat! I've never practiced on the Eko version, but if it lasted 5 years with an ashtanga practice then it sounds really good too! I also agree that the cushioning on the Lifrome is lacking. I've had my Manduka Pro for almost 11 years and its still my favourite.

Very very helpful review! I am 75 years old and have been a yoga practitioner off and on for 40 years. I took up the practice in earnest about 15 years ago after hip replacement surgery to help keep my aging body agile and flexible. I have used inexpensive and mediocre quality yoga mats until a recent decision to invest in a mat that will better meet my needs. I was slipping and sliding on my mat, concerned about falling as my ability to balance reliably is not what it once was, in addition to feeling a need for better cushioning on my knees. I am looking at both Manduka and Lululemon in particular and your review really helped me consider what I need to best support me and allow me to feel safe on my mat. Even though your review is now 2 years old I think the information is still very relevant and I thank you for this thoughtful video.

Wyn thank you so much for sharing your story! My mum has had both hips replaced so I will say a big well done for keeping up with your practice! Both Manduka and Lululemon offer great cushioning, though you will feel it more with the Lululemon given that it's base is rubber, so it feels slightly softer (not too soft though). I don't know if you've already bought a yoga mat, however I think I would go for the Lululemon if I were you.

I've had a Manduka for over 10 years, then on a whim bought a Lululemon Big Mat a couple years ago when shopping. The grip and control I have on my Lululemon matt is far stronger, I will never go back. More grip than any other mat I've ever used, especially when sweating, or during hot yoga. I use my Manduka as extra cushion under my Lululemon now.

I’m happy to hear you found a mat you like! You reminded me of an ad I once saw that I think got cancelled! A boy goes to a vending machine, puts money in, presses the button for Pepsi and gets a Pepsi. Then puts more money in, steps on the Pepsi can and is now able to reach the Coca-Cola button and gets his coke 😂

I thank you for this review. I own a cheap, underwhelming, Walmart yoga mat with no grip whatsoever. I go to PowerCore Yoga and its in a heated room. Everytime I do upward facing dog or warrior pose i slip and have no grip whatsoever. Its sad honestly but I guess i get what I paid for. I've been wanting to buy Lululemon for months and made sure its the right mat to buy, you did not disappoint! Great video! My dream is to become a yoga instructor one day!
@AlexiaKYoga
@AlexiaKYoga 2 жыл бұрын
I also started yoga with a cheap yoga mat and I remember bits of it coming off even from the first few classes. And so it only made sense to get a better yoga mat. Especially if you practice in a heated room you need a mat with good grip so you're not sliding all over the place! Lululemon is a lovely yoga mat, you'll have many wonderful grippy practices with it. And best of luck on becoming a yoga teacher

Hi - thanks for the great review! I love the Liforme as well, but have two concerns (1) I have 2 dogs that shed constantly and am concerned I will be practicing on pet hair all the time - can I just brush it off or does the stickiness make the hair stick to it? (2) I do a lot of Yin Yoga and am slightly concerned about the cushioning - have you found the Liforme mat to be significantly less comfortable than the other mats when doing poses for extended periods of time? Thanks again!
@AlexiaKYoga
@AlexiaKYoga 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your feedback! I would't worry about the dog hair. The only reason I mentioned it was because I have the white mat which shows dirt and hairs more easily. However, because the surface is smooth, there really is no problem to wipe away the surface before and after the practice. So don't let that affect your choice! I will say that this mat is 4.2mm thick, and so you may feel it slightly too thin for a Yin practice. At least that was my experience. You could always place a cheap mat underneath when you do your yin practice?

Lovely review! I bought the Jade Harmony mat because it's super grippy. I feel super stable. The drawback to me is that it's hard to slide into poses. I always wanted to try the Manduka Pro (or light or EkO) but I heard it's like a skating rink. Not sure I would have the patience to break it in. Which one do you think has the best grip but allows ease of sliding into poses? I practice vinyasa. Have you tried the B Mat? So many people rave about it.
@AlexiaKYoga
@AlexiaKYoga 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your feedback! Yes the Harmony is super grippy and really does have a nice feel to it. Regarding the Manduka, yes it does take a little effort to break it in (I just filmed the 'How to break in your Manduka mat' yesterday) however overall I would say it is an excellent mat for vinyasa as it has very good grip and allows you to slide into poses. Out of these 4 mats I would say the Manduka and the Liforme are your best options for what you are looking for. Hope that helps! And also I'm going to check out the B Mat as I had never heard of it before. Thanks for the tip :-)

@@seechangenyc280 hi! I have a Jade Harmony (in a beautiful orange ) and a B Yoga Strong (6 mm). The B yoga mat is heavier, but that’s ok for me bc I use it only at home . Both are extremely grippy, but the B yoga is a lot more comfortable, and I flow better in its texture. The Jade Harmony is the one I carry to the studio, and even though I like it a lot, I much Prefer the B Yoga for its nicer surface. You can clean both very easily (I made a yoga mat cleaner w/ water, tea tree oil, a bit vinager and an essential oil), and both have enough cushion to protect your joints. I hope it helps!! 🙏🏽😁

@@marianaspiratos4612 thanks so much for responding. Sounds like I should give it a whirl. I have only been practicing at home (due to pandemic and I only use black mats!). It would be nice to have a slightly thicker mat in rotation...did you ever try the Lifeforme? I don’t think Manduka and I are a match. I don’t have the energy for break in. They should offer a service to do the salt scrub if you want it. Then maybe I would consider...last question: do you find the 6mm too squishy for poses that require more stability? I hate mats where you sink into the mat. Stability is key for me (and grip).

I feel like it would have been good to mention that because your Liforme is a special edition it costs slightly more than the standart colors, which are "only" 140$. I also think that there could be a case for the Manduka as the most environmentally friendly because of its longevity. Mats made of rubber will naturally break down faster because they are biodegradable. Is it really better to rebuy a mat every few years than to buy one that will last you for 10+ years?
@AlexiaKYoga
@AlexiaKYoga 3 жыл бұрын
Regarding the Manduka, yes I completely agree! I've had mine for 10 years, and if I wasn't purchasing mats to test them out and do reviews, I don't think I would need to ever buy another mat! So yes, its longevity does make it the most eco friendly mat out there. And regarding the Liforme, you are right. I was referring to the particular one I had. I'll be filming an updated review of yoga mats so I'll be sure to add your recommendations :-)

Thanks Alexia for your great reviews, I have watched several of your videos and they are great! Im pretty much in beginning stage of my yoga practice but planning on purchasing a good yogamat. I have already sent one back in Amazon that was 30€ because I felt that my hands get kinda sweaty and I slided away (plus it didnt adhere well in the strong stretching positions) I would buy the Manduka one, but understand that it is the less recomended for sweaty hands . Jade and B Mat seems good options but I understand that the durability is not very good (pieces coming off after 1 years) So for that price was wondering if it's worth buying compared of a cheap one. Sliding in positions seem also a good points. Also would need a one with a good cushion, as with my previous one I had too put something under my knees for some asanas. Currently doing HAtha Yoga. Maybe you have a suggestion for me 🙂 Thanks, greeting from Spain!

I would say that my Jade lasted longer than a year, and so if you practice Hatha it may last longer then mine did! Liforme and Sugarmat and more expensive but their silky smooth too surface can be a pleasure to practice on. Hope that helps!

Hi Alexia, which one is good, Lulu Lemon Reversible or Manduka Welcome or Manduka ProLite? I'm looking for a lifetime practice yoga mat.

Hi Elvaliana good question! Of the mats you asked about I only have the Lululemon Reversible. It’s a great mat, though not my favorite. The only lifelong mat I can recommend is the Manduka Pro. I’ve had mine for over 10 years and it’s still great. Hope that helps!

I'm so sorry to hear! It only lasted 2 years? I've had mine now for just less than a year and the grip is still really good. Other people have told me they needed to replace their Liforme after 3-4 years. It's a shame yours only lasted 2 years.

I barely used my lifeforme in the last 5 years because I was in love with Jade. It is gone slippery as hell on its own.l Lifeforme is not worth it in my opinion unless you would really find the alignment lines helpful.

Hi! I posted this comment somewhere else on this thread and thought I would post it here, as well. I’m so sorry to hear about your mat. Liformes are pricey and I can imagine your disappointment. I’m wondering if you may be cleaning your mat too frequently. When I bought my Liforme several years ago I remember reading that they recommended to clean it only after every 5-10 uses with very diluted dish soap or very diluted white vinegar; from what I understand, washing it too frequently can impact its grippiness. Truthfully, I probably wipe it down after 10 or more uses and I have had no issues with slippage or its overall integrity. I hope this helps! (And if not, I hope you were able to find a mat with which you are very happy!)

Making the weight of the yoga mat such a heavily considered factor (hehe) is a bit silly IMO. They're all very light; if you're not capable of carrying 7 pounds from your house to the yoga studio, you have some other problems to deal with!

I feel like I'm the only Manduka owner who just can't get it to stop being slippery. I've had mine for at least 5 years, practice on it fairly regularly, I've salt scrubbed it, left it in the sun, and prayed to every god I've ever heard of. Still feels like a slip and slide. If I expect to sweat *at all* I just get my old Jade Harmony out instead. I want so badly to love my Manduka.

@@cheryl9461 I'm sticking with my Jade. I tried the B Mat which has the most grip of any mat I tried and I tried lots. Lovely texture. I went for the Strong which is 6" vs. their Everyday which is 4" thick and a little too thin for my knees. I didn't realize that a higher mat meant I had to have better control of my core/foot connection so in lifting my foot to the top of the mat, I sprained two toes (that sucked. Not the mat's fault, mine). The B Mat 6" was a tiny bit wobbly, I would like it even denser but it's pretty darn good for a thick mat. As I recall, the Manduka Pro is even denser (might be wrong). To slide into poses on the B Mat, you have to work very, very hard. It's like glue (the Jade has more give while being super grippy). At the same time, it's a lovely mat (that is staring at me and I am afraid to use).... Back to Manduka: I called them (P.S. I'm sure each person has a different take but all agreed in one way or another). The person I spoke to said the Pro is only rated a 1/2 in terms of grip. I called again to see if I'd get the same answer and she said it was not for me. They didn't even think a salt scrub was needed, just practice but how do you practice on a skating rink? I even mix it up with Hatha. No, go. I don't want to use a towel on top or yogitoes. I gave up. I don't want to fret every time I move into a posture. It really takes you out of the moment...

@@seechangenyc280 I am not big on the idea of mats that are too grippy ( like the B Mat from how you describe it). I know from practicing on Jade that your body’s alignment and orientation tends to change depending on how much grip your mat affords. There was a time when I could practice on any mat and have a good practice but since my experience with Jade - which I love by the way - I no longer find myself comfortable on any other. Lululemon has a good grip but I would recommend a dark color . They are quite ugly in my opinion though

I strongly disagree with jade . Their products are absolutely horrible !!! I have a jade harmony and In 5 months the material started to peel . I babied this mat so well and use a yoga rug to do all of my sitting poses in my Ashtanga and jump backs . It didn’t even last for a year . Hands down for liforme . I even sent a message to jade customer to report how bad their quality is with photos as evidence .. they just ignored me .

I'm sorry to hear you had such a negative experience with Jade.. And it broke down after only 5 months? Mine lasted a bit more than that and then I started using the other side. It's interesting as I've noticed a love-hate relationship with Jade. Some swear by it and others, like yourself, really don't like it. Perhaps it also depends on the practice. Ashtanga has so many jump backs and throughs so perhaps that makes Jade even more prone to wear and tear. So are you happy with your Liforme? The grip really is phenomenal! I mainly do my Ashtanga practice on my Manduka and I've never had any issues with it.
