It sucks rudi has been on so many meds so young but better to knock it out thenwait till it gets worse. My Essa was on baytril for 2 weeks and she stopped eating her veggies then she was put on chloramphenical shes almost done with that now

Have you looked into getting their meds filled at a regular pharmacy? Sorry if you have, or that's what you're already doing, but I know they can fill a lot of stuff for pets as well as people. They refill my pup's epilepsy meds there, and it's a lot more affordable (obviously the vet said it was alright to do). One time I was picking up her meds, and they said they've actually filled stuff for a hamster before.

themaddiemads yup we have found it to be cheaper. In the past a dog on human glaucoma meds....it was always funny the looks I got when they called out Freckles Knowles your prescription is ready...I had a dog that had to be on antibiotics for a chronic condition and they were cheaper at a human pharmacy my vet would always call ahead and they would come out and bring them to my car so I wouldn’t have to leave Buddy in the car.

holey crap you are one dedicated piggy mummy. Those medications are expensive! A pig in Aus is from free to $30 to buy from a breeder or rescue so that is a lot to keep a piggy alive! I have 3 and thankfully no health problems yet!

Im on the Gold Coast. I have lost 2 to the heat last year so am really scared about this Summer. My partner has built a shade cover for their hutch and enclose grazing area. They are all Tri Coloured Smooth Coats. Pete (Petey Boy) Bella and Pebbles. They are sooo cheeky and jump over to find all the yummy dandelions. How are yours?

If you continue having issues with Rudi sneezing and the bactrim alone isn't helping you could consider asking your vet about adding doxycycline to her regimen. Not sure if you've ever had to use it but I have had success with it elminating a couple lingering URI's and it is generally very well tolerated (much better then baytril!). I've had a couple issues with Pippa, my baby peruvian who I also picked up from the Niagara Expo. A couple days after I brought her home she went from being fine to coughing, labored breathing and lethargic. It took a few weeks and a variety of antibiotics but we finally eliminated it and thankfully she has been fine since then.

@@skinnypigs1 She was pretty severe so we did a baytril and doxy combo. She had baytril for 5 days and was supposed to have doxy for 2 weeks. We ended up extending the doxy for 4 weeks in combo with bactrim for 2 weeks until it was fully gone. Usually my vet (campus estates) wouldn't use baytril on little ones (she was 12 weeks when I picked her up) but she went from coughing twice in the evening to the next morning having some real respiratory issues. It was the fastest I had ever seen a respiratory infection come on in the pigs. Hopefully you can get little Rudi cleared up! She seems to be tolerating the bactrim well and is in great spirits!

Just to clarify, you did Doxy for 4 weeks and the last 2 weeks you gave bactrim as well at the same time? As in a dose of doxy & a dose of bactrim morning and night for the last 2 weeks.

I just found out that I’m allergic to guinea pigs. And my doctor says we should probably rehome them. I’m really worried because one of them is prone to infections. I’m scared they’re going to go somewhere that won’t take them to the vet and care for them properly. I was just wondering, do you know a way to find GOOD homes for guinea pigs? Small Animals Yeah I’ve tried to get my mom to let me keep them. But I kept getting styes in my eye “because of them”. And even though I don’t think it’s the piggies causing this, my parents are still making me get rid of them. My entire family lives in another state, and one of my friends has cats which wouldn’t be well with rodents, and the other friend is also allergic. So they’re going to have to go to a rescue :(
