The white stuff is likely plaster or drywall dust if the house is being renovated :)

I still don't know! I never figured out where it came from but it was some kind of powder. The house I'm staying at is undergoing a remodel so I'm sure I leaned against something I shouldn't have, oops :/

If they're doing drywall work, it's probably dust that came off of drywall when they cut the drywall.
