Cleaning saltwater fishing reels

The bass were very slow for me last year. Something about being allowed to keep two 28 inch fish. I’m just about ready to dump the boat in the harbor. I just want to spend some time looking for Tuna. I tried to do it on the cheap, but ended up with the accurate 500 and a TLD and a Fathom so going cheap didn’t work out and now I have to get rods. The biggest problem I face is convincing my SIL that the boat is not solar. Are black bass and fluke or tog in season. I’ll tow the boat and fish the bay. See you later.

Well looks like you grabbed one of each brand, you will like one or all of those. Good choices! I have a tuna rigging video up. I show tackle as well as the rods Im using for jigging tuna. I cover everything in the video. Tog are open, fluke and sea bass open in May.

⁠​⁠@@RhodeIslandSportfishing Seeing as you’re providing me with some good answers I thought I going to throw one more out there to see if it sticks? What is the benefit of two speed/two ratio reels and what’s the overall advantage? I’m not a dumb man but a simple explanation would be great. I do understand that your retrieve if faster or slower but share some knowledge with me if you could or direct me elsewhere. That’s for your time and I’ll see you on the water. I haven’t yet but I do intend on watching your video of rigging and the right rods to use. I have so many rods and reels that I don’t know what to do with but new reels need new rods. Sorry for asking something that should have been answered elsewhere. Thanks Bud.

@@sentient8146 The short answer is when the fish is up and down the torque of the low gear will help get a complete pump up on the rod and collect a full revolution or two on the down stroke. I really only use the low gear on fish over 100# with the setups I’m using.

That really does look like a nice way to give your reels a pretty deep cleaning without breaking them down a bit. What this saltaway stuff made of? Is it ok for mono and braid.

It is a mild chemical blend of some kind. Not sure exactly what’s in it. It is fine on metals/braid/mono/etc. I’ve been using it for a decade and a half.

@@RhodeIslandSportfishing do you know where I can get a jug? I expect to be down in buzzards over the next week or so to see if I can pick up some white chins. I believe I’m still going to have to wait another month before I can target Blackbass and fluke. I was lucky this winter. I was able to keep my boat inside, so I am prepped and ready to go with the exception of painting the bottom, which I can’t stand so that gets paid for. if you see me on the water, make sure you give me a wave
