That's amazing! I thought it was a camera trick but you really see it happen in front of your eyes (slightly sped up, I gather). I've been side-eyeing my great-grandmother's silver-plated tea set... I guess I could try it in my stainless steel sink, right? Just use more than one sheet of aluminium foil...? My kitchen is open to my living room, but if I time it right, I can just air it out while I'm absent. Do you have any idea how long the shine remains? Since it's an antique heirloom, I'm always a little worried about wearing out the silver plating.

It is sped up, but even in real time it takes less than a minute :) All my items are silver plate and so far I’ve seen no bad effects of this methods. But remember to wipe the salt water off since I believe that’s not good for the silver. You could do a patch test on a hidden part of your tea set, like the bottom of a cup before throwing the whole lot in. I was sweating the first time I tried it, I won’t lie, but I’m a convert The shine remains for at least a few weeks. Not as long as back when I used bottled silver cleaner and the special cloth, but a lot less work.

Do you do this with silver jewelry too? I dislike using those chemical basket cleaners.

I don’t own silver jewellery, but if I did, I would. :) Maybe do a trial run on one piece just to be sure. Also, since jewellery has a lot of nooks and crannies, I’d rinse well with clear water just to get all the salt off.
