Every situation is different, and it is not even always like that. In my case I have to move 13 times in 6 years. But every time I moved to a new place, I had a thing that didn't fit in my space or I needed new things that weren't needed in the previous place. I had to keep a storage unit so I could go back and forth with whatever was needed at a time. Now I own a house, and I have a mix of things I needed, but I don't anymore, and it's hard to keep things on track. I have trashed, sold, and donated things. But my job is not done yet. Still doing it, Lil by Lil ❤❤❤❤❤

Also don't feel like you need to go out and buy a bunch of baskets, bins, jars, or organizing gadgets. They will drain your wallet, and you will have more stuff to deal with. Try to work with what you already have and reduce, not add more. Sometimes we think something we saw online will magically make our lives easier/better. But it's just about simplifying our current routines.

That is def good for daily maintenance. However, when you are _behind so much that it has become a project_ which is true for me, you are unable to get ahead by doing "small chunks". Certainly, it can help a bit, but it barely makes a dent. It's like doing two loads of laundry every week, only to wear/use two loads of laundry weekly. The new simply replaces the old, and one is unable to climb out of the negative. Nonetheless, _some progress is_ better than none. 💓

Very good advice! Decluttering is a task for me, too. One of my biggest problems, though, is guilt: I feel extremely guilty if I have to actually throw something away. I can donate things...no problems there. But throwing something away that's barely used and doesn't qualify for being donated is so hard for me. It's illogical, of course, to keep something around that I will likely not ever use again instead of throwing it away. But it's extremely hard for me, personally, to get past the guilt.

If anyone feels worried about "wasting money" when tossing out unused makeup.. if you have kids or know kids (or if this is an interest you have yourself), make up like eyeshadow and blush can make great art supplies! They're basically the same as "pan pastels" in this form. If you have the time and ability you can even turn blushes and eyeshadows into watercolor paint. (there are youtube videos on how to do this) This allows the unwanted makeup to have a second chance at life and prolongs the container's eventual trip to the landfil. lol. You'll even get some cute art & memories with your lil ones!

The other 2 you mentioned apparently either only accept products from the brands that make them; from corporations; etc. Project share you beauty only accepts financial donations at the moment from the public. I like decluttering and organizing my house and passing on usable things to others by giving it away or donating. I visualize a space in it's completed form in my mind and then I'm on a mission to get there! These days, I mostly only buy things I really need or have a specific place for, and I don't really have clutter anymore. When I did like to shop, I created electronic closets on Pinterest and pinned the clothes or things I wanted onto Pinterest "electronic closet" (I called it) bulletin boards, and without spending a dime, I pinned things I liked, and that seemed to satisfy my desire to shop and accumulate things I didn't need.

This is actually the only way that works for me with ADHD. Recently I just started tossing stuff right then and there when it was still in my hand instead of starting another pile of crap someplace for something to make another decision another time. I am exhausted of having to make decisions all the time. Here is an example for those who are still reading this because they need a little push. I reached into a drawer of “treasures” aka crap, and a pen that used to be my favorite to write with because it was cushioned, and now that cushioned part got old, stuck to my fingers and it went under my fingernails while still digging in the drawer. I looked at it and i got grossed out. I got up and walked to the trash with it. I was so proud of myself! The little things matter!! Ps. I actually threw it into the trash ,too not just walked to it LOL. Because that happens too. I change my mind by the time i get to the trash and i end up placing it somewhere near the trash. If it is still there in a week or two and still didn’t use the item, i will just flick it into the trashcan. This way i don’t regret it, bc i know i gave it another chance bc a lot of times what happens is that I will need it as soon as I throw it out and then I regret it. ❤

Horrible plan for people with ADHD. We will end up burning the dinner because we tried to find the donation box, which took us on a path by the laundry room, which reminded us that we need to switch the laundry, so we will set down the spatula on top of the washer to switch the laundry, which will take us to the bedroom to put up the new load, where we will see the 14 water glasses and pick them up to take them to the kitchen, where we will notice the dinner is burning. We will then panic, order takeout, and spiral into a shame cycle while the spatula still never left the house.

I don't think the original poster was being rude by saying it's a horrible plan for ppl with adhd, I think she was making a joke but also explaining what she'd end up doing - and most or many ppl with adhd would e d up doing which is funny bkz its true 😅 I was never diagnosed with adhd but this example sounds exactly tly like what happens with me I'm cleaning 1 thing and get distracted by something else so the 1st thing is half cleaned and now I'm on to something else and again something else gets in my way or watched my eye and I'm now onto thing 3 ... all 3 things are half finished and now I'm exhausted and just made a bigger mess than I had in the 1st place... But yes - this is good advice and something new to try. Even if it means having multiple donation boxes so I don't have 2 go far 2 find the donation box and hopefully can focus on 1 thing and finish it. For example cleaning the bathroom - always gets finished top 2 bottom with no distraction bkz I don't need to leave the bathroom at any point I have everything in the bathroom that I need to clean it and it's a small area without distractions .... idk either way I love this channel bkz it inspires me to think outside the box that's not working for me and gives me a new perspective as to how to accomplish some goals I've got around the house! And I love seeing the cool gadgets she's got like the collapsible laundry basket! Wow that's so cool and I hadnt seen 1 before!

I have ADHD and the importance of kitchen timers CANNOT be overstated. Google home, Alexa, Siri timers, the timer on the oven. I have them all going simultaneously because in the past I have burnt boiling eggs to the point where they exploded and I’ve also turned a pot into molten lava. ADHD can be dangerous so it’s important to have as many accommodations as possible. Also, bring a podcast, audiobook, or some kind of show running in the background on your phone while you cook. It will prevent you from getting bored and wandering off. It will remind you to stay in the kitchen while you cook. In general, make a rule to never leave the kitchen while cooking unless it is absolutely necessary. No matter how tempting it is to break away from the task at hand to do other tasks. Bring a notebook or your phone to write down all of the ideas you’ll generate for other tasks that need to be done. Then you can handle them after cooking and putting the food away!

i’ve been decluttering this way, and then i’ll do a bigger effort time permitting…but it’s slowly continues in small chunks. my donation bags get labeled donation so once they make it to the garage my husband can start loading them into the truck…once there’s a decent amount of bags he does the donation drop off…so it’s an ongoing process, not one weekend of work. i’ve been organizing my fabric room…i’m folding the big pieces exactly the same and i’m storing them like a retail display, a job i once gad…smaller pieces are being rolled like they do in fabric stores, so they’re contained but you can easily see the fabric, i can sift through and it isn’t something i need to restack…this is time consuming…but i’ve been working at it slowly, it’s moving along nicely…and this hasn’t felt overwhelming. i love to fold, so it’s more of a game to me. as i sift i’m identifying fabric that needs to be separated out that is only for Barbie and doll clothes, so two decluttering at once.

I use shoe boxes instead of plastic bins and they're not fancy but free and practical . I've had the same one to put my sox in for 10 years now. Still good and sturdy as new. No plastic waste, no cost. I have another for cosmetics and 2 for medical/first aid. It's a good solution. I had a plastic basket for another purpose that cracked after 6 months. No, went back to a shoe box again.

Yes! Thank you! when you have little time to spend on your house it is better to break the decluttering in small tasks, and after a while it becomes a habit! 👏 athabo you for the example 🤓🙏

I like to keep a donation bin handy. Now that my kids are grown, and I have the storage space, I’m going to keep useable furniture and household duplicates boxes up so they have something to start with when they move out.

It also helps when you have unlimited storage like this. My house was built 200 years ago and I have one single closet. There is no where to "hide" anything, even it's stored neatly and zero protection from dust and pollen. It's always the people with unlimited resources that are so good at "decluttering."

We just moved here from a 10x10 room at my parents. I’ve posted lots of videos about organization and decluttering in small homes. “It’s always people like this” that have a lot of criticisms without all the facts. ❤️

You can buy these things call cabinets. Dressers. Racks and storage bins... Come on.
@kraannddaall
@kraannddaall Ай бұрын
@j.rebekah8605 And put them where? I have no attic or basement, spare room is entirely storage/dressers/utility, ect. Should I use my daughter's room and then put her to sleep in one of those cabinets? Or just stack them in my kitchen like a maze? Again, it must be nice to have unlimited space for things like cabinets, dressers and bins.

@OrganizedChaos4 Where exactly was the criticism? I made an observation that wasn't even negative. I simply pointed out for other people that might be struggling that your beautiful organized home is not the same as theirs. Not everyone has 500 drawers in their bathroom, or even the whole house. Not every house has storage options. Even if we can afford shelving units we have slanted ceilings and windows that do not allow for those options. No attic, no basement, open floor plan, ect. Some people, even when organized, have to deal with "clutter" because it's out in the open. That's all. Geesh

Wow!!! 🙉🙊😮 paradigm shift!!!! 🤯 …. create systems…! Not just lists of chores!!! ❤😂❤🎉 Duh!!! I never thought of it as one and done. Create a system where everything goes simplify… And then just get rid of anything that doesn’t fit in the system! Or modify the system to include that item… You are brilliant! Thank you for sharing it in the way you did it clicked for me finally!

I start to live by that with my clothes... I've always had large double wardrobes so I had the space to fill. However moving into my apartment with just a single wardrobe frightened me and it was so difficult for me to get rid of things. But changing my mindset that if I haven't worn it this year it needs to go. Ignoring my excuses of 'i'll wear that at the next party'. I was surprised but filled 2 big bags to donate... It did feel good that someone else can wear it instead of me hoarding. I hate that word it irritates me 😅

I LOOOOOOOVE that mouthwash thingie !!!! ❤ also yes !!! U r SOOO right !!! ❤❤❤❤❤❤ ppl , myself included, get super overwhelmed especially once it bcomes this huge gigantic project and the larger it grts the more intimidating it becomes. My best friend once told me "anthills man f*kn anthills, ur mountain of clutter is just a collection of anthills and i know u can take on an anthill. So, in addition to grttin a tiny tattoo that says "fkn anthills" , i have heeded her advice and have begun to tackle small areas at a time. One "anthill" at a time. Also, another great piece of wisdom is "repetition enforces repetition and change begets change" the more we repeat an action the more we are compelled to repeat it however subconsciously, and once we CONSCIOUSLY MAKE ANY change, it inspires us to make another change and another change, so, in short, break free from the maladaptive (unhealthy/negative) repetitive behaviors BY making one SMALL change which will then automatically guide you to make another change and so on, so, the changes become the new repetivie behaviors. ❤ Also, when u know every item u own and have a designated area for each item u aave so much time from looking for an item , also, when ur home is organized, u just feel so much more at peace and just happier, whereas when ur home is disorganized and u find yourself pacing back and forth everywhere lookign for something digging around in random drawers, boxes and bags going crazy, not only are u wasting precious time , but u are also reinforcing the repetitive action of being disorganized and constantly looking for things. So, yep. I love your perspective. ❤ Oh, and also, the fewer items u own the easier it is to keep ur home clean. Also, when ur home IS finally clean and organized , it compels you to KEEP it clean. It is so much easier to keep something clean than it is to have to constantly do these spring cleanings and constant decluttering sessions or rather putting them off more and more and becoming more and more unhappy and depressed because ur feeling so overwhelmed. I am currently living in a home where tye people i live with are VERY disorganized and messy in feneral and they have zero desire to clean and organize and declutter and i have noticed a dramatic decline in my mwntal and physical health as a result. You would be amazed at the dramatic change for the better in your all around state of mind, your physical health your emotions and your mental health. Also, i used to have a sign that said "messy bed messy head" your home is a direct mirrored reflection of ur mind. If ur home is a mess ur mind is a mess. Let that one sink in. ❤

Question: Anyone plz respond! Why is it more efficient to remove products from packaging vs storing in bins?? I'm learning to declutter at age 60. Any explanation is welcome!
@OrganizedChaos4
@OrganizedChaos4 2 ай бұрын
I’ve done videos on it that you should be able to find on my page. But, basically, it’s a lot more efficient. If you notice a lot of my organizers are 90 degree angles. They’re easier to stack and store beside each other. So you can store a lot more, you can easily see what’s in there so there’s no waste, etc. I hope that helps!!

I started doing this this year, and it's made such a huge difference! It also gives me motivation to declutter more when i have a spare 5-10 minutes. My only issue is what do i do with the donation items i find? For me, it makes more clutter because now i have a bag or bin of donation items sitting in my dining room that isn't full enough to donate yet 😅

I agree, but what I was told, get it out as you go through these steps. Donate whatever, however much whenever necessary. It made me more at peace when I got rid of those bags that were always there by my door. 😊

Im in the middle of a 2 Month Test to see what i actually use in my bathroom. I got a small bin and put the items in there that I absolutely used daily. Hair brush, deodorant, tooth brush and paste, lotion and make up. I left everything else in the drawers and cabinet. Once in a while I found I use a couple other items and am now putting those in a " Use Once In a While Bin". In a couple months I will toss everything I didn't use except those seasonal allergy and emergency type items like bandaids and peroxide etc.... I am hoping this gives me a clear picture of what I actually need and make decluttering this area easier. PS.... I am going to extend this to cleaning supplies as well.

Open-top, lidless containers are no better than having things scattered, lose. Storage should stack neatly, maximing your space, as most people don't have enough cabinets to have a dozen bins with one dust rag or 2 bottles of cleaner in each of them.

Everyone needs to find the way that works for them. The way this person describes it is a way that I do it sometimes but I also just will open up a drawer and start digging out everything I don’t want sometimes also.. more then one way to accomplish things. Is to find the best way for us to get things accomplished.

What you call “declutterring” I was raised to call “wasting.” That’s probably why my house is so full of things I don’t need.
@j.rebekah8605
@j.rebekah8605 Ай бұрын
Maybe you could make a space in your basement, garage or somewhere of the overflow and use it as a place to go shopping, so to speak, when you think you need something. That's what I'm doing, and trying to make my immediate living space less clutter. Wasting is when you over use something, not throw out some plastic knickknack you bought on impulse.
