That location should be able to be saved if you set new default project settings!

Nothing in the Render cache will be essential to you project. they're only made to help with smooth playback on your timeline and if you still need them after you delete the existing ones than they'll just regenerate.

What is render cache and what would be a situation where you don’t want to delete it?

Render cache are basically rendered clips that Davinci creates to make the playback smooth. When you remove it, expect all the little blue lines above the timeline to turn red, but Davinci will automatically start re-rendering the timeline (you may have to go through the playback a few times before the timeline is smooth again). But it will save you some space as there is potentially a lot of unused clips, because you already edited the part of the video and the previously created clips are still in cache with no use. You don't want to delete it just when you want to play the timeline smoothly but even if you delete it, it will automatically re-renders again so I would say you want to delete it everytime (or at least when it has for example more than 10/20/50 GB or so), so you get rid of the already unused clips.

Patrick, my m1 Mac mini bogged down with the cache clips, so I routed them to my external SSD rather than the desktop. They are no longer on desktop, but do not show up in the “Cache Clips” folder I created! I don’t know where to find them!

nope, you can safely delete it, it will save you some space and Davinci will automatically re-renders the cache (creates the clips in render cache) as needed ;)

Make sure you are using the nVidia Studio driver and not the Game driver...this cleared up the freezing and crashing for me with an identical setup.
