Thank you for being so honest and vulnerable. I am cheering you on and so impressed by your progress. But, I am also impressed by your process. You are honest with yourself while challenging yourself, but also giving yourself grace. Well done. What a healthy balance that you are doing, while clearing your home. Thank you for sharing because I know you are helping others but daring to be bold. I will continue to encourage you.

Mira, coming to the realization of “today” is so great. It’s the very thing that keeps people from starting in the first place. The muscles that you’ve been exercising these last two months… they get stronger as you use them. Also, keep giving yourself grace to just tackle the task ahead. You’re doing great! And your babies are cute!

My gosh...I don't know where to begin! I binged your channel over a couple days. I came over here from Bonnie at a Beautiful Mess. I want to say so much to you. You are amazing and an inspiration. You have the best laugh and attitude. Your way of being self-loving and compassionate to your emotions and struggles are the best thing ever! The fact that you take on one small space and take your time, take breaks when feeling overwhelemed, and do it over several days is so very smart (and again, compassionate to yourself). I'm an organizational ninja and cleaner and I can tell you decision fatgue, organzing, and cleaning is VERY mentally draining. I can't imagine the amount of focus it takes, especially when you have ADD. My only tip for you is when you do feel overwhelemed or panicky, just take a step outside for 10 mintues. Getting in the fresh air resets our brains and also quiets it down at the same time. Also, since I've been watching you clean I feel like I'm getting a pretty good idea of what your interests are and what your personality is like and I think we'd be scorching friends! lol I really appreciate your honesty and vulnerability in sharing your journey with all of us. We are cheering you on and I look forward to seeing your new videos and being on this journey with you. You're helping so many people by being unfiltered and human. Much love!

I've noticed that people who hoard/clutter either have had traumatic loss(es) of some kind and/or been bullied or rejected in some way. A lot of possessions give security against potential future losses and piles of stuff keep other people away and becomes a fortress against the world. It's no wonder people find it so hard to get rid of this stuff.

Change is very hard for most humans. We LIKE things to remain the same. It causes most of us some level of anxiety when we deal with change-even when it’s so positive! Once your body and mind get more used to open spaces, you probably won’t react so violently. You deserve a clean and functional home. You deserve to have your things serve YOU rather than vise versa. I hope you’re feeling better, I know losing your pup was a huge hit. (I’m a big animal lover too!) I have so many “inspectors” supervising my every move too! Lol

I call those pockets of organization "working systems"! I wish i had more of them... But when I find a system that works, I stick to it. A whole room can be a disaster but there's a small category where I know where everything is. I used to lose my toothbrush everywhere - because it's so boring, and I would wander around while brushing, and then just... abandon the toothbrush somewhere. Somehow i found a cute toothbrush holder thing and now i put the toothbrush back there because it's just so perfect.

I used to hate cleaning/organizing and only did the absolute bare minimum… except for my bookshelves! I could spend hours alphabetizing, arranging by genre, putting back the books that had wandered around the house etc. Maybe it’s just that I was surrounded by something I love 🤷. I’ve since put a lot of work into making cleaning a habit instead of a chore, but organizing my books is definitely still my favorite part though

I am simply amazed that, after living like this for so long, you decided on your own to clean it up. And that you did the cleaning up on your own. It goes against what I have seen of others. I am truly impressed by you. Also, your explanation of the reason for the piles (security) made so much sense to me. And it was a timely explanation because I kept wondering over and over why you kept the obvious trash (water bottles, empty to go cups, etc.) and that makes your decision to clean it up even more impressive. I am glad I found your channel and I look forward to your videos each week. I look forward to cheering you on in your impressive quest. Thank you for sharing yourself with me.

My mom is an organized hoarder for the most part. She had that many cords she couldn't remember what they went to. I put them in a reachable box and left them for 2 years. She never touched them so they were thrown out. If she didn't need any of the cords in 2 years, she didn't need them at all. Just do like you're doing! You were smart to do one small space at a time!

I think a lot of people don’t understand how important mental health is and what a toll it can take when you are going through tough periods in your life. Panic attacks are so insidious 😩 My boyfriend calls mine “lizard brain,” because I get so frustrated knowing “rationally” that I’m safe, but “lizard brain” thinks that I’m in danger, and no amount of explanation, rationalization, or logic can calm me, just deep breaths. SO stinking proud of the way you listened to your body, gave yourself Grace, and didn’t give up. Rooting for you Mira!

I am so amazed and in awe of you! You continue to inspire me video after video. I’m proud of you for all that you have accomplished and know that you will continue to tackle your home, one pile at a time. I went through a similar battle in my old apartment. I found myself very depressed and overwhelmed (which lead to more depression and overwhelm). One day I was searching for my checkbook and I could not find it anywhere. Rent was due and I was frantic but I knew it was somewhere in my living room. So without really having a plan, I took boxes and in each room, I filled the boxes of everything that was on a flat surface (counters, dressers, beds, the floor, etc.) and put those items in the boxes. Clothes were put in plastic bags. I then piled everything in a corner of the room in which I was working. I found the checkbook underneath the end table next to my chair - whew!! I did not do any detailed sorting, except for obvious trash. This gave me a quick win-win as the flat surfaces were clear along with the floor that I could finally see!! In total, I had 76 boxes in my home to sort through and approximately 12 bags of clothes. Once I got all the rooms done with the boxes and bags, I started the sorting. Every night when I came home from work, I would go through at least one box, sometimes two. As my laundry was shared with others in the building, I would try to get at least one bag washed per week/weekend. It took me two months to go through everything. When sorting, I had a boxes for keep, donate, trash or to pass onto my kids - if I found items that belonged to my adult children, it went into a totes for them to take to their own home and go through. Like you, I was just “done” with living in chaos. It took a while and my decluttering muscles grew stronger with each day. About a year later I was able to purchase my forever home and it only took one truckload to get me moved across town. I realized I had gotten rid of at least 50% of my stuff. Once I moved in to my new place, as I was emptying the moving boxes, I was able to declutter even more as I quickly realized that there was limited storage in my new home. To this day I am still taking 2-3 loads to our local donation center each year. I still have more than I need (clothing & books) but I am no longer living in chaos. I will continue to watch as you find your new & improved, clutter free home because you continue to inspired me and it re-enforces my own decluttering muscles!! You got this!!

AWESOME job!🥳👏👏👏🏅Thank you for talking about the panic attack - I’m so impressed that you dealt with it and JUST KEPT GOING! You asked, who will you be without the stuff? You may be healthier - I would imagine the clutter harbours a lot of dust and possibly mould (which is why you have to wear a mask to clean), and it can’t be great for your asthma. You may be more playful - with more space for your dogs to run around and play, you may throw toys and play with them more. You may be more sociable - with a cleaner space, you could invite someone over to watch a show, or have a group meet at your place to go together to a holiday event. You may be less anxious, knowing items you treasure are safely put away, not lost in the mess. You may… you fill in the next one! Change is always difficult, but I tell people to steer the change, not fear the change, and you are steering the change! Keep it up, we’re rooting for you!

Yes there are definitely things that are easier and harder to get rid of, but I think that is totally normal for everyone. Maybe some of those harder things you can work on when you get more in a decluttering mindset shape. It makes sense that you've been making a lot of decisions and that can lead to feeling tired. Plus just shifting all of that energy in a room can make you feel like you need to rest. I think you're doing a great job. It sounds like you are getting a lot of self awareness around the causes of anxiety and therefore it helps you let go of more things mentally.

Face the other on a day where you feel stronger. You are entitled to feel the way you do and to go at a pace which is comfortable. I can tell you when you finally turn the curve with this onerous task it will be replaced by things that give you joy… hang in there ❤

thank you for sharing your journey and your progress with us!! every step is something to be proud of! and i know i feel grateful being able to watch you and other creators share your decluttering journeys, I think watching others build their 'decluttering muscle' helps me build my own even when im not actively going through my own stuff and these videos always encourage me to do something in my own space as well. :)

I started watching decluttering videos about 4 years ago and I had NO idea how many of us struggled with the exact same issues, anxiety, grief, and PILES! Thank you for sharing yourself with us and being a real person. We can all support each other to just keep going. Your outlook and logic is amazing. ❤

It was really astute of you to be able to identify the source of the panic. I have a similar issue with feelings like that when things are too “clean” or rooms too empty when I declutter. We are funny animals.

Awesome job…AGAIN! You are so good at flinging water bottles, I really think you should set up a hoop with one of those white trash bags attached, and fling those bottles as you use them. Keep score! And make rules for what to do when you miss, like take 10 papers out of the paper box and review/discard them. You are so inspiring.

This was such an inspiration. I love how you took just bite sized areas, and that you resolved to “keep this area clean TODAY”, and then resolve the next day, and the next. So we have an entire file cabinet drawer dedicated to various cords! Invariably, we actually rummage through at least twice a year for a particular one! I’m glad we consolidated and kept them; they get us out of a jam most times.😊

Wow. That’s amazing, what a huge pile! 😮 I think as you declutter more you are going to experience anxiety from time to time. Like you said: Those piles have been your coping mechanism and your support. When you take them away emotions are gonna come bubbling up to the surface. ❤ But as you continue your nervous system will change and realise that you can live without them! And you are gonna feel better after a while. 🤗 I was suffering from burnout a couple of years ago.. Took me 2 years to recover and still to this day my brain sometimes reacts with anxiety when it feels like it’s too much. It’s not logical all the time, but it’s my brain’s way of telling me to slow down. I go on walks when that happens. That helps a lot. You’ve got this! 🙌

I love how you make rules and parameters for yourself as you go along, such as with the CD's. You might not realize it but it does make it easier in the log run. I struggled with downsizing the Christmas decor to fit in the closet in my new home as I have no basement now. I kept trying to choose things to donate and got nowhere. After much procrastinating I finally filled the closet shelf with some empty plastic containers. I got them down and started filling them with my favorite items. Somehow choosing my favorites turned things around in my brain and when the containers were full I easily could get rid of the rest. Keep doing what you are doing Mira, it will improve your quality of life so much and it is worth it. It does get easier.

I think you are doing a fantastic job. I found you when you popped up in my recommended videos, it was the Clutter Mountain one. I stopped watching and went back to the beginning. I knew I had to subscribe to your channel. Mira, you are so brave. I have clutter areas in my house but I dont dare show them. Im chopping away at the little by little. I told my son, you are my spirit animal, LOL. I was like, wow, I like her!! Tarot cards, horror movies, true crimes and your love of your babies! Im mostly a dog person, but right now I have a black cat named Mr Quinlan. He just showed up at my side door when I needed him the most. My Momma passed in 2016 and I was having such a hard time. I truly believe she sent him to me. Hes been here since Sept. 2017 and I love him so much. Ok, sorry for rambling...... Im so inspired by you!! Much Love from Kentucky!!💜💜💜💜💜

Your doggies are so cute! And the way you explained anxiety is so relatable. I deal with depression and I will deffinitely be using your example! I believe that having a bad week and tons of things to deal with, and then feeling tired and getting angry over something simple as 'there's no milk on the fridge', is going to be something almost everyone can understand and relate to. It's a way to try to explain how we feel. Thank you so much for everything.

I really look forward to your videos. Your voice is calming and you seem so upbeat. I am a scrapbooker, crocheter, canner, and avid book reader. Believe me when I tell you I have a ton of all of it. Everything in my home is attached to a future project, person or memory. Ive got tote mountains. I have downsized enough in the last yr to use my garage for my car. So I totally understand. Thank you for being brave to show that this is real life not the perfect looking homes that are lived in. My home will never be showroom worthy but it is a home that is loved. Just like yours will show when you are done. Thank you for sharing your journey.

I appreciate you talking about the anxiety brought on by the decluttering. Makes me feel not alone. I don't have panic attacks but I do have anxiety about decluttering. For me part of the anxiety comes from seeing the space open up and then feelings of regret from having taken so long to face it. I start thinking of all of the things I could have accomplished. I get it.

I used to have a chaotic home because I worked 3 jobs and was too tired to clean. And then I had a burnout and got chronically ill, so now I'm still struggling to keep up with it. But I can be very organized in certain areas. When the whole house looked like a warzone, but you'll open the doors of the bookshelves and they where neatly divided per category and in alphabetical order, for example.
