Who gave 3 companies so much power over peoples ability to get credit? I see my score fluctuate by 80 - 90 points monthly. I think it's due to utilization. I travel a lot, and when I have a huge CC bill, a month later, the score drops. Then I pay it off, and a month later, it jumps back up. I need to ask for more credit! 😁

My parents put us as authorized users to build credit over the years. That's the only reasonable situation where that would be okay imo. Also, some credit cards with annual fees have lower tier cards without fees that they will allow you to downgrade to. So you can keep your credit, but lose the fee.

Yep. When AmEx pissed me off with my Blue Cash card, I told them to knock it down to the free (useless 1% card). When the new card got here, I never even bothered to activate it. It is kind funny how being an authorized user without the responsibility to pay the card actually builds credit. What is credit worthy about zero responsibility? And my parents did the same thing for me back when I was a ghost. Added me to their ancient AmEx account and had the card sent to their address. When 'my card' got there, they cut it in half. I never even put eyes on it. Had over 30 years of $60K credit history in one day. Over 700 beacon and never paid one dollar on that card.

The problem with trying to maximize credit score is that you lose out on high yield savings interest or other short term use of the free floater loan from credit card if you pay the balance before the statement cycle date. Sure, nice to have high credit score, but if you’re not applying for credit card or other loan, no need to prepay the credit card charges prior to the statement cycle date.

First its unfortunate some have such power over your credit...also i was going to trade my car in for another from the dealer ..i always use..i was denied at first because they ( the credit reporters) said i had no credit cards and they wanted very badly to get me into one of their credit cards..i did have a credit card for years and thats a load of b.s. ...i went back to the dealer and told them what i found out and they reconsidered thankfully. Don't get it,120,000 dollars available credit between 21 accounts all good standing, one 10,000 loan paid off only 1000 dollars bedt and my oldest card is 15 years never late only use less than 10 percent of available credit individually. My fico score is 803

So how many credit cards should one own? Also, I read somewhere that when paying off debt, the highest APR credit card should be paid off first, while paying minimum to the lower APR. Already down credit like 680 to 540 due to financial difficulty, didn't pay several credit cards, has the loan. Now how to build up?

For me my credit score means nothing when it comes to getting a mortgage. Being self employed they go by my income which is kinda low (there is only so much you can do with 2 hands). Also my oldest account has been 10 to 11 years old and never increases, been that way for 6 to 8 years.

The trick is to have at least 3 credit cards open and use them sparingly and pay off. It will boost your credit score.

Experience and transunion credit scores are such different numbers mine is over 100 point difference and it depends on where the place pulls from

I have no debt besides a student loan that is in collections. How does this affect my credit score? I never use more than 5% of my available credit card availability and ALWAYS pay it on time. My home is paid for and I have no auto loans.
