Hi Sally! Thank you for your kind words! I actually have two rivet presses. One for each studio. In my home studio, I use a KamSnaps DK98, but it’s discontinued. In my Leduc studio, I have a press from PacCana in Calgary Alberta. It’s the same press that Tandy carries, but it’s $145 cheaper. KamSnaps has replaced their DK98 with a DK93 now and as of a couple of weeks ago, I would seriously look into this press... As for dies, I use the die that corresponds with the rivet I’m using... I have rivets with 6mm heads and 8mm heads. I also have press plates that I sell now that fit the Tandy/PacCana presses, the Kam DK93/Minkus Margo presses, and the GoldStar press.

Hi Debby! I was wondering if sewing in the D ring loop at the time of sewing the top stitching would be an alternate way of attaching, instead of using a punch. Of course, I would reinforce the top stitching in that area. I don't own a rivet punch & was thinking of an alternative way to secure the D ring(s). Your videos are the best! Especially sharing helpful comments along the way, like the ¼" seam allowance tip on the Pfaff zipper foot. I had no clue and I have a Pfaff!
@DebbyHunker
@DebbyHunker 6 жыл бұрын
You can certainly try that... I’m not sure if the hardware would get in the way when you try to sew the side seams though... That would be the only issue that I could foresee...

@DebbyHunker
@DebbyHunker 7 жыл бұрын
I prefer #5 zippers for handbags in general. They have a little more substance and don't look like dress zippers (#3). If you aren't going to use zipper tape (my preference), then 8" zippers work. The one I used in this video is #5 plastic tooth, but I use #5 coil zippers too. You have to be extra careful when sewing over the plastic tooth zippers though because you'll break needles if you hit a tooth. Coil zippers are less hazardous...

I have 2 machines that I can’t live without... I do 95% of my work with my Juki TL2010Q. It’s a semi-industrial machine, straight stitch only, but it has more power than any domestic I’ve seen. It does have limitations with extreme thicknesses though... Having said that, I’m doing my next series of videos (Snowdrop by Blue Calla) on the Juki, start to finish. The other machine I use, for beautiful top stitching, is my Titan TN650BL. I’m not sure what model it would be in the US... It’s a compound feed industrial and can go through pretty much anything... It does beautiful top stitching and that’s pretty much all I use it for. If you’re looking for a Juki TL2010Q, I have affiliates in the US, email me at debby@doodabug.ca if you would like any more info.

Hi Debbie, thank you for an amazing tutorial!! I love the D-Ring hack and would like to know the size of zipper tape you use. I am ordering a rivet press and I understand that you are using the 9mm for this bag. I have cut several of these bags and will be doing them assembly line style and your video has helped me to understand the process better. BTW on your first video of the Clematis, you have your pattern taped together with a space in the center, is there a reason for that? Regards, and please keep the tutorials coming.
@DebbyHunker
@DebbyHunker 7 жыл бұрын
Hello Jean! Thank you for your kind comments! I use #5 zipper tape, and in this video, I used #5 plastic tooth zipper (as opposed to #5 coil). Because of the thickness of all the layers, yes, I used medium (9mm) rivets. I have small (8mm) and medium in my hardware stash. That little space in the pattern piece is just to make it easier to fold and store. It's the same size as the original pattern piece.

@@DebbyHunker you always seem to add so much flair to your bags especially by adding the #5 plastic tooth zipper, I'm finding it hard to find an 8" plastic tooth zipper though, did you cut the one you used to fit the bag and then add the zipper tabs? Did you sew the tabs over the zipper teeth to add the tabs ? Sorry for all the questions LOL
